- I've nicked this from original uploader, reconstructed it (as it was in two bits) and resynced the audio. Personnel: June Tabor, Mark Emerson, Giles Lewin. The songs are: Bridget O'Malley, While Gamekeepers Lie Sleeping, Blind Step Away, Love Henry/The Cherokee Shuffle.
I am 66 and just discovered June Tabor. Spent my teenage years with Maddy Prior and Sandy Denny, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, Country Joe McDonald, Lindisfarne, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, not to mention the Doors, Steppenwolf etc etc but I guess I was omni-directional rather than deep...and then there were too many life distractions. Still, better late than never....just WOW.
No harm done!
Are you from Bloomington, Indiana by chance?

The album Silly Sisters by June Tabor and Mandy Prior is my favourite of all time!
My experience also : )
Been listening to this wailing woman for 35 years, and she still sings like a lark. The most influential artist in my life. May you sing for many years to come.
Her voice is fabulously unique.
Im just starting to listen to her. wow. I had only heard one song, but wow, her voice. mesmerizing
do you know if she is related to a violet tabor
@@rebeccasherrod4966 listen to Finisterre
25 years for me, and I will forever melt when she sings. Glad of it.
Heard this voice first in 2006. Stopped in my tracks in the house. Wrote the name down and immediately went out to get a recording. JuneTabor became indelible❤❤❤❤❤❤😅I was 53.
For about 50 years now my personal Goddess of folk singing.
To have been a follower of folk music since my early teens in the 60's my life has been illuminated and uplifted by its performers, if only todays youth would give its beauty a listen the world would be an infinitely better place to live in.
Ich war an diesem Tag am Kölner Dom, gemeinsam mit meiner Frau, es war ein Erlebnis, das uns für immer in Erinnerung bleiben wird. Danke.
Do you know why they put it on? Who organised it!? It's unbelievable.
The festival took place annually from the mid-70s until the late 90s. It was organized by the public TV station "Westdeutscher Rundfunk" (WDR). As far as I know, the performances were open air and free for the audience.
I first heard June Tabor sing in 1969 at the Oxford Uni Folk Club when she was a 2nd year student , probably on a Monday night in a back-street pub. A marvellous voice and range and I am glad she is still singing. Unforgettable.
Tabor and Prior are two voices that helped grow my soul
I would add Sandy Denny and Karine Polwart to this list...
@@Ed30675 I'd add Shirley Collins, Anne Briggs and Jacqui McShee
Very nice ...and so soulful and must say I love her voice .....catches you
I had the privilege to hear June sing at Godfrey Daniel's twice in Bethlehem many years ago. She autographed my cassette tape as I told her how much I loved hearing her amazing voice...she smiled and thanked me.
Wonderful singing, wonderful music! June Tabor; you are magnificent!
She's brilliant & beautiful with the haunting voice of a true English muse!
Her voice could melt a heart of stone.
Top quality singing
Wooow. Gamekeepers: amazing. I knew I love her singing but as a youngster could she ever jump fast and accurately anywhere she chose! Thrilled you put this up, thank you!
I've NEVER seen a girl wearing an earring with A PARROT perched in it - aside from her glorious musical GIFT.
JUNE is a BELOVED HEROINE of mine!
Unbelievable vocal control and tone. While Gamekeepers Lie Sleeping is amazing.
Possibly the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
Maddy Prior is every bit as good. And when the two of them sing together you'd think you'd died and gone to heaven.
This is fantastic many thanks for the upload. Her voice is so beautiful
This is beautiful.
June Tabor's beautiful haunting voice makes me feel melancholic. I feel like I am ready for the sad cold grave, but that it's not a bad thing.
I’m ready too when God wills
This is a masterclass in folk musicianship, I loved every minute of it. The charm and eloquence of Tabor's singing is compelling and mesmerizing; the fiddle parts are arranged and played superbly. They should have recorded this and released it as a live album.
Especially recording in the wind...
Just what a voice , wonderful , angelic , wild , beauteous, thank you 😮
I had the fortune to host and mix a concert by her around this time. I still remember it well.
Mixing June Tabor!!! What a privilege! Sometimes mixing is hard work, sometimes it is pure pleasure and amazement ☺️
never heard of her before but, what a voice, full of heart, soul and compassion. gorgeous...
+steve harris Maddy Prior, Pentangle ('white flight') and Sonja Kristina ('Curved Air') are of the same genre.
been listerning to her for years, what can i say , JUNE TABOR IS A NATIONAL TREASURE
a divine voice out of a perfect singer - a memorable experience
powerful and magical! .... she's a legend
Without doubt the best footage of June I have ever seen - fabulous.
Just....exquisite!
So sad, so beautiful !. To all those who know love and loss .
+welshpete12 Indeed so.
Jesus I just stumbled across this! It's five in the morning and I'm in tears
The percussive ability of her crafted Vocal instrument is simply astonishing ..June reminds me of an old dear friend Julie Talor Green , that sadly have lost touch with ,both stunning beauties. June appears shy which some how makes her even more appealing and seem humble and unassuming in her manner
So beautiful! This is true soul singing.
The first song is very beautiful, the strength of feeling, the way she shakes her voice to embellish the note. Quite haunting. She's best at sad, poignant songs like this.
@Michael Grunfield. Grace notes.
Can't buuuuleave Iv'e only JUST discovered this vocal gem ...how sad that this voice has not been a part of my rich musical history, so glad I stumbled at long last across this Velvet Vocal Vixon
You are 9 months ahead of me. And, HELLOOOO fellow vegan! This is a magical lady, eh?
same here Just discovering this gem.
Love your name btw. :) me too!
I've loved June Tabor for many years, but never heard her do this lovely song before.
Heartbreakingly lovely
June captures it, in any month, at any time and place
I come back to this piece of live June tabor again and again .. the gamekeepers lay sleeping is my favourite part .. but frankly it’s all beautiful .. 🙏
The festival took place annually from the mid-70s until the late 90s. It was organized by the public TV station "Westdeutscher Rundfunk" (WDR). As far as I know, the performances were open air and free for the audience.
Saw her a few times around the early 90s. Never forgot her name.
Lovely.
I've quite fallen in love with this woman.
from the first time I heard June, I was stunned by her extraordinary tone and the feeling she puts in. I had *kind of* overlooked her technique because technique alone does not make music. But Holy Hell, the 2nd song (at 5.00) is absolutely Incredible.
Can't get my head round this... June was born in 1947 so was 43 when this was filmed... I had to fact check as I thought she looks about 25 here.
She is too young there to have had plastic surgery. A 43 yr. old woman can look 25 if she's kept herself well and in shape.
Beautiful voice, beautiful woman.
Same age as Maddy Prior.
@@ianlambert8034 Occasional partners in crime!
@@leona4701 I am not sure how much truck she would have with plastic surgery at any stage of life.
Brilliant.
Along with the beautous voice, the two-fiddle arrangement is perfection.
She's a Giant of Celtic Music. A true seer. A Mystic
reverberation of the ages
Thank you June
I am a rocking rolling Yank, but I have fallen in love with June Tabor. I've been that way since I first heard her voice on "Spy Ship," a BBC TV production from the 80s. I hadn't thought about that program since then. It was just the other day that I realized I could find that song and many more on You Tube.
Thanks for posting... I've loved her for years!
Breathtaking
Just absolutely awesome
So, so achingly beautiful...
What a lovely song and beautifully sung.
Thanks for putting the work into the edit!
You improved it wonderfully! Masterful!!
absolutely lovely i will be looking for this girl
This video will catch on, I am sure. It is just awesome - thank you so much!
I've never seen live video of June Tabor this young... 22 years ago.
Check out "While Gamekeepers Lie Sleeping around 4:50. Wow.
This was wonderful. Thank you for uploading.
Glorious woman she is.
beautiful lady and beautiful voice x
I first heard of June Tabor a couple of years ago when she was mentioned in a Peter Robinson book (DCI Banks). I went on TH-cam and listened to some of her songs and really liked what I heard. I now have eight of her albums....
Beautiful, well worth the effort to reconstruct
This is one of my favorite songs. There are very, very few versions so sense full.
Well done. Lovely ....
thanks for posting this, I really like June Tabor, so it's a real gem for me
Gran cantante, nos ha dejado momentos sublimes del folk británico en sus discos, en solitario y en las Silly Sisters. Besos desde España.
What a performance!
Gorgeous!!!!!
My song for this moment~~~
beyond lovely. Wow!
This woman is Amazing 🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹☝️🏴
What a delight... Thank you for sharing!
only Sandy Denny is in her class...thanks mucho!
Beautiful! Thank you!
June Tabor is wonderful! I saw her perform with Maddy Prior in 1976 in London on the Silly Sisters tour. One of the best concerts I ever attended.
Her rendition of "When Gamekeepers Lie Sleeping" is brilliant.
she is a true true artist
She's so good.

Thanks so much for posting really lovely
I love the depth of her voice....easy on the ears....
Bridget O'Malley, you've left my heart shaken
With a hopeless desolation, I'll have you to know
It's the wonders of adoration your quiet face has taken
And your beauty will haunt me, wherever I go.
The white moon above the pale sands, the pale stars above the thorn tree
Are cold beside my darling, but no purer than she
I gaze upon the cold moon til the stars drown in the warm sea
And the bright eyes of my darling are never on me.
My Sunday it is weary, my Sunday it is grey now
My heart is a cold thing, my heart is a stone
All joy is dead within me, my life has gone away now
Another has taken my love for his own.
The day it is approaching when we were to be married
But it's rather I would die than live only to grieve
Oh, meet me my darling ere the sun sets o'er the barley
And I'll meet you there, on the road to Drumslieve.
Heart-touching! Wonderful!
Beautiful.
Wow.Very beautiful song and performance! Thumbs up! Have a Happy New Year! :-)
Greetings,Chirantha,
Sri Lanka.....
this is intensely wonderful// thanky
I approve of nicking this, well done ;
ahh I just spotted it!! Bridget O' Malley!! Thank you for uploading.
Schwer vorstellbar, dass June da bereits 43 jahre alt war
Years young
Doesn't she look magestic here? A giant in English folk music.
Bravo!
Excellent. Note that the original is sung widely in gaelic (but seldom in translation) in many parts of Ireland in a s Bríd Óg Ní Mháille (Young Bridget O'Malley). Cheers.
A noble attempt to get the crowd to clap on the off-beat, June x
Looking really cute there. Great music of course too.
Какая же она замечательная!!! И фиддлеры великолепны! Они - одно целое. Спасибо!
June is an angel with a capital A.
if i wasn't permenantly homesick. i certainly be that now. breathtaking doesn't quite seem to be the right word
High Empress of English Folk.
Perfection
Großartig!
Such a perfect blend of traditional ornamentation and clear contemporary diction!
(I have to look away from the video, though. Otherwise, I focus too much on her looks! LOL!)
