The song is about Mother nature. How she dies in fall and winter but is reborn in Spring. And if you figure how grounded Tatiana is thru her thoughts, it makes sense.
I've been lucky to experience one meet and greet with them in Rochester. By far the most down to earth artists. They take time for every fan and embrace everything and everyone of us!
It’s about the “death” that occurs in fall/winter, and “rebirth” that occurs in Spring. Tati suffers from severe depression that peaks in the fall/winter transition.
I'm late to the party! I'm glad your giving Jinjer a shot and think you'll like them. I understand doing Perrenial. It's structured more like a normal song (at least towards the end). It may have been a tad too much in the deep end but not much if any. I'd recommend Exposed As A Liar next. The band isn't tuned as low so it's not as "heavy" sounding (it's still heavy, don't get me wrong). Either that or Just Another then maaaaaaaybe Cloud Factory, she starts out sounding "No Doubtish", then heavy, then pretty. blah, blah, blah. Beggar's Dance would be an easy one for ya but it's very, very short. hang in there and keep up the great work! BTW, their bassist led me to another band with a song called Perrenial. He was asked who he listened to. Their name is Spirit Box. They're not Jinjer but I like them pretty well too and I hate almost everything. See ya!
I'm only understand about 80% of this song, and I love that. Tati's writing is amazing. She has written all of their songs since their Cloud Factory album, except Dreadful Moments which was written by Eugene the bassist. The band members compose the music and she writes lyrics based on what she gets from the music combined wither own ideas and frequently binging documentaries and stuff. She gives hints about meaning here and there, but I haven't seen any full breakdowns, and that's kinda for the best IMO. I feel like good poetry should leave one with something to mull over. Tatiana has said she suffers from chronic depression, and winter exacerbates this, and that Perennial was written about those feelings. Surface level, yes it is nature dying in the winter and being reborn in the spring. For example "death throes crawling to her toes" is the trees drawing the nutients out of their leaves and branches, down into the roots. The complexity is that this is layered with what sounds like talking about a relationship. Is it her relationship with nature using the cycle of human relationships from passion to apathy as an analogy? Is it talking about a relationship dying using the seasons as an analogy? Is the phrase "annual tradition" poetic license referring to the annual cycle as a "tradition" to sound more intriguing? Or is that a reference to pagan Yule rituals symbolizing the death and rebirth of nature at midwinter? So many delicious questions to ponder. You've done the most mellow Jinjer songs. And most of the ones with real music videos. Where to go from here? I would say *not* "Sit Stay Roll Over" (their most pissed off song) for sure. Probably not "Dreadful Moments" (their most depressing song, about child abuse). Probably not "Ape" yet, another really aggressive one. I see most of the rest as being similar in intensity so there isn't really a path to follow. I would say though that actual concert performance by Jinjer are almost always better than any studio recording if the sound is decent. I'll still happily chime in with my thoughts along the way, of course.
Jeffrey Fisher Thankyou so much! It makes me very happy to see your comments here!! I get less nervous!! And your knowledge really helps me out so I’m not as far behind as I could be... 🤟
"Pisces" was fully explained, although it didn't really need one if the listener knows anything about the zodiac sign that the song perfectly embodied. Either way she straight up explained that it was meant to showcase the duality of the sign. Any interview where she is asked to explain a song she does so, or whomever answers the question does so. She's also one of those artists who allows listeners to operate their own interpretations outside of what it means to her, which I think is wonderful.
this one,in my opinion, symbolizes the similarities between people and flowers( perinials).we lose our petals in the fall and winter(seasonal depression disorder),,then bloom again in the spring and summer.then the cycle repeats
Kristin, perennial is one of my favs, my next 3 suggestions would be just another, teacher teacher and exposed as a liar. Welcome to jinjer land, I'm going to see them in October in the states. Exposed as a liar is from 2012 but it has such a groovy feel to it. Enjoy

All of the songs on their "Micro" EP are much more progressive, and, complex than what they've done before. It has me very excited for what they have in store for their next full length album!
That wasn't water on the drums, it was snow. Real snow! They recorded the EP in Kiev in the Autumn and were fortunate enough to be blessed with an early snowfall. Everything in this video is real, no CGI or studio scenery. The clothes are traditional ukrainian dresses but don't worry, Tatiana was wearing thermal underwear and her delicate hands and feet weren't harmed during the making of this video. : ) Tatiana (but also Eugene) has been explaining small bits of the meaning of her lyrics in some interviews, that's how we know. : )
I enjoy watching your jinjer videos. You need to experience this music in your car full blast driving around. Reduces stress and you get weird stares at red lights :)
It's literally a song about the transition of the seasons from fall to winter. But, it's symbolically about life changing events that change us and we come out stronger. The ending is so awesome. "from the ashes of my roots, the new me will rise to live again". "this is poetry of youth, this is poetry of me and you". My favorite line though is, "no we're not dead, no we're not dead, just enjoying coma".
BTW I recommend you react to 'Just Another" next. It's a great song about being mistreated, but choosing to forgive rather than let bitterness take over.
I can assume that the song with subtext about her hometown of Gorlovka, which is under occupation. And that he is reborn and she will be able to return to her parents
My interpretation of it was something like, much like how perennials die annually, but obviously eventually reconstruct themselves, its basically a metaphor for her own persona... one I've been able to relate to heavily, actually just got a tattoo of the words "from the ashes of my roots, the new me will rise to live again" for that reason. Seems like when the going gets tough, whether by circumstances or just may it be mental state etc, represents the fall/winter(dying) and the reconstruction is well.... reconstruction

You feel like you can run through a brick wall after listening to them. OMG....you are really opening up in this. Love, love, love hearing your feelings. I really try to not get too lost in videos before listening to the songs a few times. Then I look at their video artistic impressions. I look to the band logs and interviews to get where they are going with the artistic impressions. Be careful...you'll find yourself getting lost in the menagerie of her voice like sirens luring you in while sailing. I don't like pushing my interpretations, so i won't explain my feelings. Glad to get YOUR impressions and feelings. What it meant to you and I got that from you today. The brotherhood of metal welcomes folks like you with open arms looking for the deeper meanings in everything. Starting to enjoy seeing the sparkle in your eyes from this. Love and respect!! I think the songs about Mother Nature and the ending of seasons (death/suicidal) earth and water relates to it of course. I'm sure it's a little deeper than that though.
Kristin Kali I always hesitate to put definition to a song unless it's completely obvious. There's a great quote from Dave Grohl from The Foo's and Nirvana "you can sing a single song to 250,000 people and 250,000 people can have a different interpretation of that song". Which is so true. It can be difficult find meaning behind some songs. Trying to break it down a few words at a time helps.
Another European band that is just different is Eluveitie, they mix traditional folk instruments and elements with metal. The song Rebirth by them exemplifies this.
...next step? Girl, it's too late! You're already hooked like the rest of us! It's just what happens with this band. Like your reactions, keep up the good work.
I know my last disturbed recommendation was a little harsh for you(i had forgotten how hard that song is) but you may like their song called "the light"
One complication is there are a bunch of definitions that are mostly only tangentially relevant. My mom did a lot of gardening so I was familiar with perennial flowers, which pretty much explains the song in a nutshell. But I think the #1 definition is everlasting or something like that which isn't as clearly relevant.
@@j.f.fisher5318 that's why I said read the definition and the lyrics. I'm pretty sure most people who do will be able to figure out what definition fits
@kristin kail Give it time. You obviously appreciate it, but metal can take a while to understand. Some genres can be shocking at first, but there's almost always some deep meaning in there. You mightn't ever like or appreciate all the sub-genres; there are some I don't and never will, but stick with it. I didn't like fry and scream to begin with; it took me a while to get used t!. There are 2 really old Jinjer albums that have disappeared into the mist of time. You cannot obtain these tracks on iTunes or other sources, but they’ve all been posted to TH-cam in this video. I’ve pointed this link to a specific spot - it seems to be Tatiana, singing the chorus of “Destroy” in the shower! 😂. th-cam.com/video/VEotO39gkqk/w-d-xo.htmlm28s
Good choices. For "Just Another" I'd suggest a recently released video of their 2018 performance at Resurrection Fest which includes that song because they always give 110% in concert performances (it starts at about the 20 minute mark) th-cam.com/video/4HW-ACeiUMI/w-d-xo.htmlm00s.
After all direct comments already written, let me kick it sideways :) I've noticed that you pause/unpause a song video by finding and clicking play icon with a mouse pointer. You can do the same simply by pushing that large space button on your keyboard. A little hint to make your experience less stressful :-) Anyway, thanks for your appreciation from Jinjer's Ukraine.
You remind me so much of an old friend. If you said you were her sister I'd believe it, but she's Irish and has no sisters. I think it's the black hair and nose. You kinda look like a real life version of a cartoon bear, that's the only way I can explain it. It's not a bad thing in any way so don't take it as an insult
Hi Kristin. There are many Jinjer interviews out there. but you may find her studio vlog interesting. She is a native Russian speaker, but her use of the English language is incredible. She takes a theme and expands it for almost every song. After the guys come up with the music, she listens to it and gets a feel. chooses a topic and off she goes. She really puts a lot into the lyrics. If you search "Jinjer King of Everything Studio Diary #4" you can see her back when they did Pisces and I Speak Astronomy. She talks about making the record and topics. Might be good for you to watch to get an understanding of her. Also if you want to get to know about her and her many styles, she has many great posts on instagram Tati_Booyaka
Their old vlogs on YT are endearing as well when they were nobodies touring Europe singing for their supper with all their kit crammed in a midsize sedan.
@@j.f.fisher5318 Yep, I agree. I watched those and felt like old family home movies. I was in a band and did some of that in an old Chevy utility van and an old Bread delivery truck. Their lighting guy, Billy, also has home movies from the USA tour. They are all in Russian, but I watched them all anyways. I think only us die hard fans will watch all of those. Glad to know I am not the only one. I followed the band site and their individual sites to get a peek at some great people living the dream of touring the world playing loud music. I like Eugene's play through's also since I play bass. Tati's instagram is cool to see that Beauty with all her styles. She just loaded one of herself doing Karaoke. Adele - Someone like you. Right, now I think Waltz or Scissors are perfect for your next reaction, however let me tell you from now on you will encounter heavier songs, although the songs have mellow parts they are heavy overall.
GeniusCenaa ive been suggesting epica ft floor jansen...sancta terra live retrospective.im thinkin its a good segway into power chords and heavy drums...with the vocals it shouldnt be overwhelming
Killswitch engage end of heartache. It's beautiful. not this heavy. Still maybe on the verge of comfort. But you heard the piano rendition of another song so you can expect the beautiful melodies. Hope you are well😋
You said "I'm not giving up on metal". Just to let you know...there is plenty of metal without growls, so you don't have to go there every time. Some band suggestions: Riverside (not everything they do is metal), The gentle storm, NightWish, Epica, Ayreon, Devin Townsend, The gathering
To be fair "Pisces" is one of their more tame songs. Most of their work is much better. Don't get me wrong, "Pisces" is a great song and I love it! I just think it's not their best song and I'm not alone. It's a great song to break into the band with and get used to their sound. This song and "Captain Clock", "Who Is Gonna Be The One", "Teacher Teacher" (which I See you've done and it's up next for me to watch), and "I Speak Astronomy" are all much farther down the Jinjer rabbit hole. Loved the reaction!!
But that’s where metal comes from. That darkness, the monster in the dark you’d rather not acknowledge. metal music is a constructive way to let it out to play that hurts no one.
Try one of these when you can (or both!) JINJER - Just Another (Official Video) th-cam.com/video/c-vhrv-1Ctg/w-d-xo.html or JINJER - Teacher, Teacher! (Official Video) th-cam.com/video/oRkRwL0vjOg/w-d-xo.html
If you like lyrical content and the way a story can be painted using the language, may u suggest Cradle of Filth - Her Ghost in the Fog. Be warned, its black metal, which can be the most inaccessible of music, and you WILL need to read the lyrics.
Like anything Artistic it's really up to you. To make an interpretation. I like to watch videos a few times. The meaning will speak to you. Sometimes you just wake up to it. And sometimes you see it first time through.
How can people focus so much on lyrics while listening to the song for the first time. Just enjoy the song without thinking too much of the meaning. Its much better to "study" them after the song is over.
Hi Kristin. As an introduction to the metal genre Jinjer is due to their progressiveness like jumping in at the deep end. But you have my respect for broadening your horizon into what for you is unknown territory. I will recommend that you check out th-cam.com/channels/98tcedR6gULv8_b70WJKyw.html the youtube channel Frog Leap Studios. Leo is a super skilled and creative musician that does weekly metal covers off pop, classics and even kids songs. It's all about the fun and love for music and I think this possibly can give you an other look at the metal genre, when it's applied to songs that are more known to you. Best of luck on your continued journey.

Thankyou sooo Much!!! I’m so glad your both here!!! I will be back to the-read!! Promise!!
After all direct comments already written, let me kick it sideways :) I've noticed that you pause/unpause a song video by finding and clicking play icon with a mouse pointer. You can do the same simply by pushing that large space button on your keyboard. A little hint to make your experience less stressful :-) Anyway, thanks for your appreciation from Jinjer's Ukraine.
your did great on your Pantera reaction
richard thacker Thankyou Richard! 😁🙏
@@KristinKali your welcome
You remind me so much of an old friend. If you said you were her sister I'd believe it, but she's Irish and has no sisters. I think it's the black hair and nose. You kinda look like a real life version of a cartoon bear, that's the only way I can explain it. It's not a bad thing in any way so don't take it as an insult
Metal Monkey 😂😂😂 Well this is a first! Ok Thankyou for this comment! ☺️💕
Her voice gives me chills and I have never heard the original.
@@williamcody3415 ooh-I'll have to find that!
@@j.f.fisher5318 if you don't mind Russian, there is some cool behind the scenes from the tour with BOBBY the lighting guy th-cam.com/channels/6rUcVx5Q72d3DhA7zq5uPA.htmlvideos
Seems to me you have inched closer to being a JINJER fan, I hope you take some time to watch a live performance this band is just awesome. Thanks
If this seems different to you, you are absolutely on the right track.
Try Bad Water from Cloud Factory.
Should do Teacher, Teacher - another new song of theirs
Please react to teacher teacher by jinjer next please since you look like you are enjoying the groovy sections of jinjer or cloud factory 😁😁
Ah. When they said you should react to this song as the next logical progression, I think they meant the Live at Wacken version. You'll see why.
please TOOL - right in two
Each tool song is a journey
Right, now I think Waltz or Scissors are perfect for your next reaction, however let me tell you from now on you will encounter heavier songs, although the songs have mellow parts they are heavy overall.
GeniusCenaa shes definitely not ready for who is gonna be the one live 😂
bear loh I know right?!!!! And to be honest I don’t know what song would be good for her now all of Jinjers songs are heavy af!
GeniusCenaa ive been suggesting epica ft floor jansen...sancta terra live retrospective.im thinkin its a good segway into power chords and heavy drums...with the vocals it shouldnt be overwhelming
bear loh That’s right! Some Epica would do the trick!!
@@bearloh4740 Yeah, Who Is Gonna Be The One is my favorite Jinjer song, but I didn't recommend it. ;)
Its metal and its been there before the day you was born
Killswitch engage end of heartache. It's beautiful. not this heavy. Still maybe on the verge of comfort. But you heard the piano rendition of another song so you can expect the beautiful melodies. Hope you are well😋
You said "I'm not giving up on metal". Just to let you know...there is plenty of metal without growls, so you don't have to go there every time. Some band suggestions: Riverside (not everything they do is metal), The gentle storm, NightWish, Epica, Ayreon, Devin Townsend, The gathering
Basic Guy Thankyou for this! ... I failed Epically my first nightwish video...😁

Here is a short Q&A video with Tatiana where she talks a bit about the meaning behind her lyrics
next : "Teacher,Teacher" ;)
Reminds me of Kitty's stuff
React 2 Helloween-FOREVER N ONE. Girls like this song.
Like anything Artistic it's really up to you. To make an interpretation.
I like to watch videos a few times. The meaning will speak to you. Sometimes you just wake up to it. And sometimes you see it first time through.
Tatianna is ducking pissed in this song you can hear it her screams and growls she is pissed
U need to check out the drapery falls by opeth what a beautiful song that is
Hahaha number 1 for the number one woman. Listen to native Americans music.
How can people focus so much on lyrics while listening to the song for the first time. Just enjoy the song without thinking too much of the meaning. Its much better to "study" them after the song is over.
When you are ready for progressive metal please react to Ayreon The day that the World breaks down!
Please try Epica - Sancta Terra live ft Floor Jansen
Jinjer is pushing you too hard too fast I think. Normally you'd work your way up to those vocals
Metal Monkey 👊❤️Thankyou for your comment Metal monkey! I had a lot of hit & miss reactions 😵
Way out of your comfort zone. But very admirable. Sorry it's not your style great reaction tho. 👍
Kylie 101 👊❤️😂😂lmao... 🗣I KEEP TRYING THO... I love Tati & Eugene... Lol... I don’t know when to quit Kylie
@@KristinKali as long as you're enjoying the situations and people around you it seems great to me. Life is too short to persuade me from enjoying it while I have the chance and music is my thing. You kick ass!
Rather persuade me against it.
Maybe you can make better sense of that than I can English lol
I love your in-depth thinking, you seem so thought provoked, Love it, great review girl, big hugs..by the way here's a video of Tatiana on the bus with her band, th-cam.com/video/DDOcBcHD_LY/w-d-xo.html
