Thank you fot all the information. I suffer with severe RLS. During the day and evening. Gabapentin hasn’t worked and I have been on Ropinirole it’s not as effective. Not many Physicians understand this disorder and how to treat it. Very frustrating.

Sorry that Ropinirole is not working for you. I just started a 28 tablet pack and from the very first night not one hint of RLS. It remains to be seen if it is effective forever. But is works great for me, almost like magic.

It worked for me for years, but now it takes longer and longer to take effect.

@paulrichards2365 it works until it doesn't. And then you have to stop taking it. And the withdrawals are horrendous. I was left permanently works as a result of DA's.

Restless legs originate in the basal ganglia part of the brain, which needs dopamine to function properly. Iron is needed to convert tyrosine to dopamine. Vitamin D is also needed for dopamine. You might be low in iron or vitamin D. Also if you take too much zinc, it will block an enzyme needed to convert tyrosine to dopamine. Take 1000 mg of tyrosine in morning and night and also take 30 mg of heme iron once a day along with vitamin D. If you are using denture cream made with zinc, switch to the new zinc free denture cream. You don't need drugs to treat the symptoms, you need to treat the cause of the problem, which is an imbalance in vitamins and minerals.

@@ranrachvl that's the trouble with drugs. Rebound effect and having to take more and more. What a trap it is

I love that you covered all bases here, including controversial meds. I was diagnosed with RLS 24 yrs ago at a sleep study when l had just graduated Nursing school. Had never noticed it ....just started noticing it a few months ago when one night my leg just jerked like someone pulled on it. It was terrifying...now l am concerned it might just be getting started. Hopefully not ..but this is an incredible video. Appreciate the advice. 🙏

Very informative, thank you. You mentioned a number of areas that I will have to look into. Just like a previous reply most of the doctors I have seen are just not familiar enough with RLS . I am actually on one of the drugs that you mentioned could exacerbate RLS. I wish you were in my area...

Ok I have tested this theory out this past week. When I had a piece of carrot cake or a cupcake this week for my husbands birthday, I didn’t sleep at all because I jerked, twitched, kicked and had these electric shocks run down the back of my legs to my feet. The days that I did not have any sweets….i slept like a baby.
I am one who usually knows what’s wrong with me before I go to the doctor. I know you can go to the internet and research your symptoms and usually find out what’s wrong with you if you already have an idea. I can’t believe it took me this long to put those two things together.
I don’t add salt to my food unless it’s totally bland. I do add salt to meat and vegetables while they are cooking but I’m not one to add a lot of salt so I don’t think that would be my problem but now sweets…. That is definitely a problem for me. So hopefully this will help someone else. 🩷❤️💜

Lyrica caused greatly increased appetite and weight gain….switched to Gabapentin and it did not cause any increased appetite or weight gain but it takes longer for the Gabapentin to kick in.

Taking carbidopa and predictably restless legs worse now. Never take till nighttime and only thing that works. But makes it worse. 87 next month. Have had in past but never so bad. Yes. Spinal chord injury. Have indolent lymphoma in bone marrow. Maybe that has something to do with it? My doctor doesnt know anything. Looking for another doctor.

Hello Jean. Have you cut out excess sugar and all unnecessary salt? People say these things make it worse. Benadryl or antihistamines and alcohol also make it worse.

@@ButtercupCreationz Yes. Sugar I have given up except occasionally. Use substitutes. Don't take antihistamines and stopped alcohol 44 years ago. Thank you.

    How do you treat PLMD?

    • @luisezayasmdpt4397
      @luisezayasmdpt4397  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

After having the diagnosis based on a sleep study (the only way to make the diagnosis), the treatment is similar to RLS. I talk about that at some point in a video. It is a very important and very common topic.

@@Raiders555 Maybe this will work for you. I’ve been trying to get off morphine forever so I’ve been trying different things to see if it works. I take Cyclobenzaprine, (sold under several brand names including, historically, Flexeril, is a muscle relaxer used for muscle spasms from musculoskeletal conditions).

Ancient Minerals magnesium oil spray from Amazon really helps me. It contains Zechstein magnesium chloride and trace minerals. Spray the soles of your feet and legs and massage it in. It really helps. If your legs start to burn slightly or itch, that means you are low in magnesium. After a few uses, that feeling goes away.
