70s Uli Roth era Scorpions my favorite line up of all time! In Trance, Virgin killer, Tokyo Tapes, Taken by force, Black Out was the end for me. ULI ROTH and his playing and Tone were the key ingredients! Just amazing.
He was the greatest guitarist Scorpions ever had. He wasn't recognized in America as the albums he played on were pretty much released on RCA in other countries. By the time They made it in America, they were an entirely different band. A lot of people here don't even know about Scorpions' albums before Lovedrive..
Well , for me the nucleus of the Scorpions at their best is Rudolph Schenker , Klaus Meine and Mathias Jabs. I also liked Herman Rarebell on drums and Francis Buchholz on bass. But, of course all the previous and present members of the Scorpions have made their back catalogue the greatest compilation in the history of music, and I hope the party never ends.

They sure as hell do inside the industry… both Mustaine and Hetfield call Rudi one of the best rhythm guitarists of all time (and both of them are on that list too)

I saw the Scorps twice back in the late's 80's and early 90's when they were on The Monsters of Rock tour thing with Van Halen. If I'm not mistaken, the lineup went something like this: Kingdom Come, Dokken, The Scorpions, Metallica and Van Halen. That night, the Scorps blew Metallica off the stage and Metallica doesn't get blown of the stage. Every member of The Scorpions is a consummate showman and their music was tight as hell. Incredible band.
Metallica was heavily influenced by the Scorpions… James, Kirk, and Dave Mustaine all cited Uli, Matthias, and Rudi as influences on their playing styles… Mustaine even basically said anyone who didn’t give Scorpions their respect doesn’t know metal in an interview once.
First song I ever heard was Blackout on the radio. Bought the album album along with Sails of Charon and Virgin Killers (took a chance) and I bought every album I found ever since. US 83 , most fun ever at a concert .
Yeah, Mathias was what was missing, Virgin Killers, not impressed and it did not last long in my album collection. No matter how good Uli and Michael apparently are, Mathias brought life to the songs. Listen to him riffing under most of the early 80's stuff, the Guitar part you wish you wrote. And he was fast for the time as well, Definitely up there with Randy, Jake and the Maiden boys as far as influential Guitarists of the 80's.

Из-за того, что группа хотела писать коммерческую музыку, Ули и покинул коллектив. А жаль: если бы остался, то Scorpions стали бы флагманами хэви-метала, а не Iron Maiden или Judas Priest, но история не знает сослагательного наклонения.
Don Dokken did some demo recordings when Klaus was having vocal surgery between Animal Magnetism and Blackout… Klaus recommended Dokken as a potential replacement if the surgery didn’t work
Crazy how I always think of them as an 80’s band when they were around at the same time as the British Invasion bands.

When I first started listening to Scorpions was Blackout and Love at first Sting then I found out they had earlier albums and I was hooked
