    You forgot to mention the easiest technique for beginners: start flailing your arms, scream in terror, swerve toward grass and fall flat on your face. (Some people prefer to fall on their ass.)

      +clray123 Yes, this particular stop that you describe is the fastest and most effective strategy for braking that I have used. It works as well, with some modifications, for bicycling in the rain when you find that your brakes are useless.

    Yep, agreed. We don't brake at all. Not for trucks, cars, other people, or squirrels. Dogs though, we'll knee stop for any dog if we have to.

    Hey, this is a super beginner question, but could you help me get better with T-stopping? I just bought new skates since my old ones broke as a kid and I never learned how to properly stop. When I do try to T stop, my behind leg gives and goes all over the place. How are you able to keep it firmly parallel behind you?
    I gotta know so that I can go downhill. Thanks for any feedback!

      It's easier to use techniques like carving to control speed on downhills (sharp s-turns). But to help with T-stops, try putting more weight on your front foot when practicing, so there is less pressure on your back foot. Get low, and simply drag the other foot behind you. By doing this you can build your confidence with the angle so that your wheels don't grip and roll the blade to the side, and over time you can begin to transfer more weight to the back foot so as to slow yourself more.

    I tried T stop but my front leg wobble and I couldn't skate straight.

      +Husnul Chotimah The best way to overcome that is to build ankle strength. As you skate, try to keep the leg you are pushing with off of the ground a little longer. This will get you more comfortable with having your weight on one skate and build up those muscles so your leg stops wobbling! Another thing to remember is to keep your knees bent! A lower stance will give you more control and stability.

    If I ever reach a steep hill, I'll probably just take 'em off and walk down since I don't want to use up the wheels from t braking! Damn those steep ass hills on skates!

    • @Panic_Pickle
      @Panic_Pickle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steep hills can be descended by "carving", or doing sharp turns to reduce speed. These turns can wear your skates out as well, but are much easier on them than grating your wheels in a t-stop. Still, if your not comfortable it's never a bad idea to just walk it :)

    rear brake is most easy and safe choice of braking.... Lady at the video completely forgot, that you need to push all the weight into the rubber during braking.... You should even take your hands on the braking knee to support weigh redistribution..... All that weight is used to BRAKING.... not like Tstop which IS HIGHLY uneffective...... Sorry guys, rear brake is most safe and efficient choice, and it is easily Physically described.... I rather buy one rubber brake which
    will do for me 5 intensive 40km/h brakes on few meters than destroying expensive wheels and doing difficult tricks which needs more free space for maneveruing.......
    Learn to brake with most easy thing like rear cheap rubber.... Than after you will mastery it, you should be so kind of PRICK, that you can take it out and doing from yourself how Marwellous you are....Ignoring basics and Telling wrong things to begginers I really hate mostly !!!
    If I want to go fitness skating, I take rear brakes, If I want to be HEro and showing my skills I take Freestyle skates!!! But i will never recomend to averybody to taking rear brake out until they learn it to use and DECIDE if thay need to have this most effective choice on their skates!!!

    So Mi Seh : Good idea, but its unable to use it, rear leg is for stability control, rear leg with body angle quides your braking direction..
    But if you want to be effective you will brake with rear brake and your rear foot you will doing swipes, braking into the sides, but its quite a wasting of weight redistribution, but it could looks good if you will finish it by final brake 360° twist after you brake into low speed which yould be used for that thing... 30kmh is not a good speed for those things :-D

    so with a T stop, you lean back on the skate that is dragging behind? ohhhh.

    • @Panic_Pickle
      @Panic_Pickle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most weight is on your front foot initially, and then you transfer it to your back foot as you feel comfortable. If you put all your weight on your back foot too quickly you may trip, or your wheels may grip and slide outwards making you unstable.

    I'm like, oh my god. my wheels are 110mm and cost me 80$ per summer. I will not use your fist method to break or i will have to buy wheels 2 time by summer.
    But i think its the best method to break and the easier.
    i dont even have the rear break on my skate i just never break.

      Perhaps try dragging in short lengths. Practice standing on one foot, and putting all your weight on your front foot whilst gently placing/tapping you braking foot behind you. That way you can build up your ability to keep it on the ground and slow yourself. I found it easiest to simply lean forward, put all my weight on one foot and gently drag my other one behind me, as that helped me get the angle right. By practicing and transferring more weight to the back foot you can become more confident in it and more stable.
      Also, if you want to learn on both feet, go to a skating ring that won't wear down your skates super fast and try braking gently on each step for a short period before you take your next stride.

    Is a guide with these two stops really necessary? I mean anyone who can't figure these two out on their own shouldn't be outside with other people anyway. Using friction to slow down should be instinct, and it's really not that hard to figure out how to use the brake. Just sayin'
