    This is the only song they won a Grammy for. It just goes to show what a load of garbage the Grammy's are, that Pink Floyd only ever won once. The album "Dark Side of the Moon" spent 917 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top 200, from its release all the way to 1988. It dropped off for a while, and bounced right back on. Greatest band ever, and only one Grammy. It's why nobody pays attention to the Grammy's.

    As a drummer, it is one of my favorite drum tracks ever. I know, is very straightforward and simple pattern, but it has tons of feel to it. I love how it goes from hats to ride and back to hats, just when the song requires that, and the groove is such a delight thing to play with (heck, even air drum this).

      For the majority of their albums it is best to listen to them as a whole. I do think The Division Bell lacks the flow when compared to the Waters era concept albums. Don't get me wrong though, there's still flow on the DB album and I love this album! I'm not bashing it by any means.

      @kevinmcconnell9426 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jeffrey Hinkel give a listen to Sound Chaser by YES and then tell me Steve Howe isn’t on a par with Page.
      I don’t put Hendrix as THE GOAT because of what he did before he died, I put him there because of what he never had the chance to bless the world with.
      Hendrix did everything on and with an electric guitar before anyone else did.
      Wawa pedal, using feed back as a tool/instrument. There ain’t nobody that played guitar in a band of the 70’s and 80’s that doesn’t credit Hendrix as an influence.

    Love that you chose this song, Jamel. In fact, there's an actual official video for it that is quite stunning as a kind of story, and that might be worth reacting to as a video. In the video (which starts with a view of a satellite in orbit--maybe taken from the International Space Station, I don't know for sure) after the drums enter in the song, the setting is in the ruins of the town around Chernobyl, the Soviet nuclear power plant that melted down in 1986. (It's still considered the greatest nuclear disaster in history.) The video is eerie, but also hopeful in a lot of ways. Here's the TH-cam link to it: th-cam.com/video/P7YMI39sObY/w-d-xo.html

    "Marooned" is the only song that Pink Floyd won a Grammy for (Best Instrumental Recording). David Gilmour has mentioned that "pretty much" all of "Marooned" is improvised and that he "probably took three or four passes at it and took the best bits out of each".

    By far one of the best bands! Si ahead of their time, in 50+ years no one has even come close to their song writing

    David Gilmour uses Digitech's "Whammy" guitar effect pedal a ton in this song (which is different from a whammy bar, also known as a tremolo or vibrato). He mostly uses it for shifting a note up an octave (and back down), which is what causes a lot of the "trailing off" sounds at the end of a phrase. Another player known for its use was Pantera's Dimebag Darrell, although he used it more for quick pitch shifts than the smooth way Gilmour utilizes it.

      I was wondering if someone was going to mention the whammy pedal used here. He uses it to perfection imo. Great that you put it out there for everyone!

    I saw a video of an interview with David Gilmore and he said he wrote Marooned while at a beach outing with his family.
    Much love...(chest pound).
    Thanks for sharing this video with us!

    I agree with you that it’s not really a reaction song, but I’m so glad you did, because that’s how I discovered it today. One of the most beautiful pieces from Pink Floyd I have ever heard. 58 years old, and I’ve never heard this one before. Thanks Jamel, I appreciate it🙂

    My brother I wanted to comment on a recent post just to give you a little shout-out. I'm 66 years old and I appreciate your appreciation of the music that came before your time. You are someone I would enjoy sitting down with discussing music movies and comedy and then throw some little 49ers in there as well! That all being said I know one of your favorite bands is the Beatles. I don't know if you've done this but I would love to hear your reaction to two songs from the Same album. It demonstrates how many tangents The Beatles actually went off on. The first is Within you ,With out you and the second is Rocky Raccoon. I don't want to give you any more information about the songs. But they are way over 180 degrees apart. Hope you enjoy and peace out.

    During their 1994 tour, Pink Floyd did two shows in Oslo, Norway and those two shows were the only times they performed Marooned live; it wasnt part of the regular tour set. They played it as a form of protest against Norwegian whaling (the high pitched guitar bends is sort of reminiscent of whale noises, and they also had footage of whales on the backdroop screen I believe), Norway being one of very few countries that hasnt outlawed whaling. I attended one of the shows, at age 14, and it was my first proper introduction to Pink Floyd (I think I had only heard Another Brick In The Wall before then)
