I must say, you guys are always excited it seems but in this case more than normal! It must be a very interesting game and you have definitely got my interest up. I'll be looking for this one!
We are usually excited, both when we speak about stuff we like and don’t like, haha 😂 But yes, especially excited for this. So happy we were able to play and share this one 🤩 Hope you’ll like it!
Thank you for the review. I saw this game mentioned on the Talk Cardboard podcast as well, and it was great to get a deeper look into it here. Worker placement is one of my favorite mechanisms!!
I hope you’ll like it! If you are used to highly interactive games, you won’t find this one very interactive, but it does have nice interaction both on the worker placement board and the game board. Just wanted to clarify :D
@@BoardGamingRamblings Yeah, I get it, it's not going to be Barrage, but it's not multiplayer solitaire, I'll be happy with that. :) A friend has a review copy, so I hope to play it sooner rather than later.
Worker placement with a twist is pretty cool. It's nice to see game makers thinking more and more outside the box to bring unique play to board gaming. Thank you for the look at this game!
It's amazing to see the game here and see that you like it. I'm the illustrator nd I'm a follower of your channel. I hope you like the illustrations. I hope to see you in Essen to say hello. 😻
This is so cool! I love how many board game illustrators are also gamers! I loved the visuals of Phoenix! Thank you for your work! Hope to see you in Essen soon! 🤩
Hehe, glad to hear! We have «always» used timestamps for most videos, but I’m trying to also add them for Keep or Cull videos going forward, so all videos will be easier to navigate! Thanks for the kind words :)
Good you know what you like :) I will say, of course depending on what games your group likes, the board isn’t very complicated. It has a track to move on, places for regenerators and places for buildings under them, and that is mostly it :) Doesn’t mean it has to be for you, just wanted to share :)
😂😂😂😂 Sometimes the board looks more intimidating than it really is… When you deal with the rules, the setup and and and, you might find out that it is not that bad😊👍🏻 When I first saw the boards of Castles of Burgundy and Great Western Trail for example - I thought “Oh my god”… But when I learned the rules and set the game up, it wasn ´t that bad😊 But: this game here looks a tad more complicated than Castles of Burgundy or GWT 😅
@@b.2194 As the rules guy, I wish games had better played aids. I don't know how many player aids from BGG I've printed out and I always wonder:" Why wasn't something like this in the box already?". Publishers really need to step up their game in that regard.
Hello, this is from the same publisher as Satori, his previous euro release from last essen, which I liked a lot. Do you think Phoenix is a step up in weight, set up and table space...? Thank you
@@perrolokogames What's the best way to get your games in the USA? I had to buy Satori through the BGG marketplace. Would prefer to buy directly from you or a retailer that will ship to the US.
I think that it depends on what your looking for in replayability. If you are looking for a crazy amount of variability in setup, I don't think you'll find it here, but I am pretty sure you can play this quite a few times and doing different strrategies, and using yourr opponents choices as best as you can. Hope that answers your question!
@@BoardGamingRamblings Yes . Thanks a lot that answers my question. Good game. Will give it a try,. For more setup variability my first pick this year is Shackleton Base
@@BoardGamingRamblings It’s the newest game from Uchibacoya who made Aqua Garden and Ostia. Came out earlier this year. Fantastic art, unique worker placement, and tableau building. Definitely check it out if you can find a copy. That publisher only fulfills outside of Japan during their Kickstarters and then it becomes really difficult to get it.
Oh wow, that is hard to answer! I think the best would be to do as much research as possible, and find out what game speaks the most to you and your tastes. If you’re thinking of maybe getting the other one later, finding out which one will be easier to get later might also be a factor. :) I cannot really answer for you, and I do personally like them both a lot!
you normally talk about player scaling / playtime in your reviews, but either i missed or you didn't discuss it in this one. how long does the game take? did you play it at 2p only or at higher player counts?
Hey :) With the new format, we might not always talk about it, and not in the same way as we used to. With that said, in this review, we did talk about it :D If you click the timstamp named something like «great lenght of play» that will hopefully answer your questions 😁
@@BoardGamingRamblings oh sorry i missed that! thanks for the very quick response and the explanation :) i'm looking forward to trying this game in essen. side question: will you be demoing any games?
Very interesting looking game, but those screen printed meeples are so out of place. They look like children's drawings compared to the grounded and more detailed boards and other art. Not bad, but they just don't match. Very off putting.
If you take a closer look at pictures of the game, I think you’ll see that it actually matches the style quite well. The whole board is scribbled with names, a lot of them board game related or other fun things. I personally love the whole graphical look on this one :)
Agree to disagree. I can see the cohesion between the drawing style lines and the meeples, but it still feels like a mish mash of art styles to me personally. Looks like an interesting game though.
Are you for real? You're simply taking better actions, a mechanic already seen countless times in worker placement games.. you're not "promoting" anyone, or rather, that's the terminology used, but the outcome is neither original nor cool.
Sorry you feel that way, but it’s also completely ok if you didn’t like the game :) Not all games are for everyone, and I am fine with that. We really loved this one, and we did absolutely feel like the worker placement was different, unique and a lot of fun.
@@BoardGamingRamblings The game is fine, it's just that calling it "The coolest worker placement system in a long time" it's hands down an exaggeration, other than being misleading. When it comes to promoting workers, Apiary, just to mention one, already does it better. But hey, 'de gustibus non disputandum est' ;) Keep up the good work!
wow, you've just convinced me to push this to the top of my "play next" list (pushing past stephens, seti, asian tigers and men nefer)
I really hope you’ll like it then 😅
Excited to hear your thoughts on Stephens, Seti and Men-Nefer! Sadly haven’t had the chance to play them yet.
