    Don't put peroxide on it ! wtf... Just heat the water and sit the seeds in a pot for like 15 minutes minutes max then plant it in a high humidity place (like just put a wrap with some hole over your pot and wait 5 to 10 days. It always worked with every seeds I got and I even got a high volume of sprout so...)

    hey, i know im a little late on this video. but i just got into growing bamboo. Im currently trying to grow giant bamboo. my question is. Im using led lights which dont put off alot of heat but im keeping the temp constant around 75, because thats the best i can get temp wise. How bad do you think this will affect the germination timeline?

  • @benth162
    @benth162 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Why Hydrogen Peroxide instead of Gibberellic Acid? I used GA when germinating my Plumeria seeds and most if not all came through OK. The only problem was that the GA caused the elongation of the stems to the point we have to stake them up until the stems got large enough to hold up the growing group of leaves at the top. BUT, with bamboo not having a soft center as does Plumerias, I am wondering if that elongation would be a benefit because bamboo grows straight up with only light weight branches.

    So it's a 1 to 20 parts H/P with H2O and the seeds are permanently wet with that kind of solution and can I make a spray bottle full of this 1 to 20 H/P solution and keep on spraying the seeds with it until they germinate?

      First Class Gardens
      Unless you're trying to germinate really old seed or seed from certain species, fresh bamboo seeds, although there is a great variation between species, have a germination rate of about 30% without the use of germination aids.
      Your link was not a study, but an article claiming that people have said that studies have been done. Also, there are different types of dormancy in seeds (coat imposed dormancy and embryo dormancy) and most importantly, it is currently unknown whether or not bamboo seeds go through any type of dormancy, let alone how the process works.
      I searched for an actual study on the effects of H2O2 on germination and I found this: www.ejobios.com/pdf/EJOB-10-05-4-9-70-79.pdf
      But the study only manages to prove that H2O2 improves germination of barley seeds *under stress*.
      It is simply unknown whether of not H2O2 helps in improving the germination rate and speed of bamboo seeds. But we do know that H202 is an anti-fungal.

    • @mygardenchannel
      @mygardenchannel  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      interesting piece. all i can tell you that it works for us. customers keep coming back just read our feedback. Not sure, 30% is really low. i would say if you are getting 30% germination rate on bamboo then you might want to try using this solution. The key is that the seed must be viable as well. We have purchased the seed from other countries and found that there is no embryo in most of the seeds just empty husks. Do you grow from seed? I can try and give you studies but for the past 15 years of farming this method has been by far THEE best way to stimulate the seeds to start germinating. Then it becomes the use of perlite or paper towel?
      Anyways, try and grow rainbow tree seeds or kochia grass seeds or daylily seed without this solution and your germination rate plummets. I can only comment on my experiences. And when someone compliments you on giving them this info after years of frustrating results, thats my proof it works. Thanks for the note. Take care
