- Hi plant lovers, today I will show you how to grow bamboo from seed, in this video I planted seed in the paper method and they germinated afther that I planted some seeds in the small pots. I will make video update when they will grow up.

Hello, George. I am a bamboo enthusiast. I live in central, Atlantic Florida. I have had three tries with black bamboo seeds. I have only had 4 seeds that sprouted. I feel encouraged after watching your video. I will try buying seeds from ebay. Where do you live? I used to live in a cold part of this country. I had a large bamboo garden with 13 different varieties of mountain bamboo that flourished in that colder climate. The foliage stayed green all Winter. Some where about 5 inches in diameter and grew to over 20 feet tall. I am trying to do the same in my new home. Bamboo plants are very expensive, so I have plenty of time and patience to grow them from seeds.

Do you have to moisten or spray everyday? And does this method work for any kind of bamboo?( I have moso bamboo seeds and I don't want to mess up the germination process)
It is important that the seeds be fresh, I do not sprinkle every day that the greenhouse effect keeps humidity. in my case mosso bamboo did work this method, red bamboo only a seed germinated, golden bamboo nothing until.

I find that a better way to do it is lay them in a paper towel fold it over them and get a bittle if water and put a lid full of peroxude in the water and soak the paper towel and place it in a sandwich or freezee bag for 2 weeks
I’ve begun the germination process with red bamboo. Should I place it in my garage without sun or in shaded area outside. It’s gets to 100+ since I’m in Vegas. Should I just keep them indoors under my sink? Thank you for any help. This is my second try at germination but first try using your method.

I had no luck with my seeds so I'll definitely try your method now.
I let mine soak in water for 24 hours and put them into small cups. Put some clear-sighted foil on top, poked some holes in it and put the cups on a heating mat.
However none have germinated so far and they look almost black. Here and there some sort of mold set place too.
My god I don't know what happened there but I'll give them some more time but in the mean time I'll try your method now. If only I've seen your vid sooner haha. I can keep you updated on my progress too.

So I've tried 3 different patches and none of 'em sprouted. The paper towel method didn't quite do the trick either for me. They started molding up with green mold of some sort around the seeds. I don't know what happened there but oh well.. I'll keep tryin.

If you plant running bamboo, yes.

No you cam mow ot down or I ut a edge in to control it where it grows. If you let it just spread out of your control then yes lime anything you need to be careful

bamboo rarely produce seeds, that's why the more common method of growing them is from cuttings.
Good to know! I was lucky the seeds were fresh, and now a new shoot has reached 70 cm.

I found it better to take the actual seed (ovary) out of the shuck. Seem to germinate faster!

Don't you have to soak seeds in salt water for 30 minutes? Then soak in just water for an hour and then sow the germinated seeds?
do seeds get too old to sprout i saved spmm fro last year planted in cups his year ---about 2 months now nothing i tryed placeing in sun a feww hrs per day no luck.

How do you expect them to germinate after one day and dont Just Put them in water, Put them in a moist paper towel and Put that moist paper towel in a plastic box
