This band never disappoints. How they are not one of the biggest rock bands rn, I'll never know.
Wrong ERA. They are most definitely the best that's doin it right now. Live and recording. But if ur not pop music these days u just don't get the same attention from the media.
@@tr3boR_999 That really hasn't changed much in the past 20 to 30 years. It's called pop for a reason. But yes, they are definitely one of the better rock bands.
The fact that this single is so overlooked is A CRIME. But quite understandable since it's both heavy and experimental. Average listener can't handle either of that.. they just want watered down radio rock anthems.
They also speak too much truth. I love how they have Alan Watts in most of their albums.
This music is making a come back. The 90’s kids, kids are growing up.

The best thing I have ever heard
Such a great ending song, this whole album is put together so well. I love the direction Nothing More and Bad Omens took with the albums they just put out. Even the I Prevail album was a fun listen. I'm glad bands have finally been able to get back together and put out music they've been contemplating over during all the shut downs. So much creativity lately, it's great.
Just when you think you already heard the best song on the upcoming album, along comes Spirit!!! Confirmed why they are my favorite band with every single so far!!!!
The second that almost dreamy “spirits come through. Make old things new” does not fail to send waves of shivers and dopamine straight through my spine into the back of my head. There’s something about that part of the song that just hits so much different.

I’ve had this song on repeat for hours now. I think it’s safe to say it’s one of my favorites from Nothing More!
Such a powerful depiction of not only alcoholism, but substance abuse as a whole, showing not only why people fall into it, but what it gives AND takes away. A true double edged sword. Definitely one of my favorite songs from them, right alongside Funny Little Creatures and This Is The Time. Instrumentals, lyrics, and vocals were on point, especially that last scream 🖤

Personally I always felt this song was about falling into the rut of just growing numb to the wrongs in the world and just doing nothing about it letting ourselves become the worst versions by virtue of just doing nothing. Like a sickness but the only symptom is cynicism.

“Isn’t it interesting that we give the same name to something holy and something wholly intoxicating? The song ‘Spirits‘ describes that very conundrum. When you drink liquor, it has been said that you are welcoming that pneuma (spirit) into your body. Most of us have seen and experienced how alcohol (or rather ‘al-ghawl,’ which means demon/spirit) can make us feel.
It’s almost as if we turn into someone else when too much of the spirit has been consumed. Sometimes it’s eye opening and can lead to wondrous life-changing conversations or bonds that would never normally happen…and sometimes it can lead to the exact opposite. It may turn us into Dr. Hyde’s Jekyll and cause us to do or say horrific things we would never normally do sober. Spirits are both a little bit heavenly and a little bit sick.”

I guess it could be about that but I think I’m too self-absorbed to get that message from it and the lyrics of this song REALLY feel like what alcoholism is like ie ‘a little bit heavenly, a little bit sick’, the mention of spirits (alcohol) but personifying it as living things akin to demons that make ‘old things new’ because of the way it affects you and causes one to ‘look at the world with one eye closed’, and the ‘it’s killing me’ being literal

First time I saw Dan play was a bar in Shreveport in 06(ish). My band opened, then NM, then local headliners. Dan is from another world, and this is coming from another bass player. He has his own distinct sound. Not many bass players can say that. The whole band is amazing, but Dan is beyond next level.

that scream is so heart wrenching because I have hell of a lot of scream in me bet I don't know how to let it out so whenever I hear any of Jonnys screams I open my mouth and think about me doing that scream.

Finally back one of best bands of last decade. Been following for 20 years. This song talks about what I am going thru w my late son spirit helping me thru it.
Not quite at 20 years, but yeah, I get this. My band at the time opened for NM a few times when Save You/Save Me was brand new. Jonny was still on drums then. I knew the first time I saw them that they had "it". Super cool to see their rise. It's well deserved and they have put in the damn work.
@@joshuathart I worked for the Emergenza festival way back then, and these guys were one of my first bands I worked with. You said it; it's well-deserved. They had the best work ethic of any band I worked with hands down and had the talent to make it. What was your band called?

@@darrenburgfeld6973 oh man, I don't even remember what we were calling ourselves at the time. We went through a new name every other week it seemed, lol. Soulfuel was the name we kept the longest, so maybe that one?
I don't want to detract from your feeling with the song. But I believe that this is trying to point out that people need to stop consulting witchcraft and demons, as they are unclean spirits which are mentioned in the bible, and they promise lots of things, but all they ever do is truly defile us.
But please, share what the song means to you! This is simply how I've interpreted it to me. No harm intended friend. Bless you for loving this great band. :)

When I first heard this a month ago, I had a thought I've never had before. "Spirits" is the last track on the album and it sounds like it. It has an epic, transcendent feel that is perfect to close out an album. And that's how I wish I had first heard "Spirits," as the close to the album of the same name. Even without that full context, it might be my favorite Nothing More song. I'll decide if I'm still around in three months to hear the album.
