I think he knows more than he pretends for the comedy factor. No way do you hang around these guys, constantly watching while manning production on PPRs/Paper Fight/etc and don't pick up enough to play a game wihout screwing up. His whole schtick is as a bumbler so appearing more clueless than he is makes him funnier. It wouldn't be funny if he was just an averagely-good-but-non-diehard player. My friend has watched far less Magic content (ie, none at all) than Beej and already makes less mistakes than Beej does, compared to when Beej has played it before. His total bumbling cluelessness is his selling point to viewers.
Putting this here as well as on twitter: Love the league really liked both formats (first shows more decks, second feels more competitive). What I would like to see is a greater focus on brewing. That is every player takes (or is given) a less established deck and tweaks said deck during the following weeks, to make it the best he can. Example decks: Alex - Orzhov Pox Ben Ulmer - Mardu Vampires Ben Wheeler - Medium White (or just a medium deck that isn't red and isn't leagues better than the other decks) Serge - some prison variant Jer - Mardu Control (or another less established control deck) Cameron - Either a less popular aristocrats variant (like 2 colour or zombies) or a storm variant Outside of this I would really like to see some of the lrrmtg crew, that doesn't usually play CanLander try the format, if that works schedule-wise
We already get a large variety of decks showcased as is (Ben once brought UB rats discard and battle of wits for crying out loud). Just let people play what they want. Also, I firmly believe that watching the people who are the most knowledgeable and passionate about the format is far more entertaining.
Gotta say I love the collegiate respect and good sportsmanship displayed by all here. It's so nice to see people remind their opponents of abilities they could use, or calling themselves out on accidental rules violations etc. Even though this is a League it just feels like friends enjoying the game, which is absolutely the content I crave.
For what it's worth, I personally really appreciate the more family friendly direction you're taking this channel in. It hasn't bothered me for a long time, but now I will be better able to share your streams with my friends. Thanks guys! Love y'all! Keep up the awesome work!
IDK if you'll end up reading this, but to figure out tiebreakers for champion for future leagues, go with game win % which is (games won)/(games played). Ben won 15 games, played 24, for a win% of 0.625. Jeremy won 12 games, played 22, for a win% of 0.54 repeating, so Ben wins on tiebreakers.
I much prefer the consistent decks, but I like the idea of each season's league having slightly different rules, e.g. next spring is new decks each week, next summer is same archtype each week, autumn and winter are other interestingideas you guy can come up with. My personal idea is each player chooses a small handful of cards and builds a new deck each month using those cards.
Wonderful stuff as always gents the banter between wheelz and serge was great. Still waiting on more content jrhwhite! I’m forced to greatly enjoy the content of the preeminent lands pilot in the format Ben wheeler in the absence of yours :p Shoutout to cam keep truckin homie
@1:13:40, would've been great if Cam could've eaten a land with Deathrite to make R, cast Kari Zev's Expertise to steal Leovold (casting Young Wolf for free?), chucked Leo into the Blasting Station with YW to kill Deathrite and not given Jer more than 1 card draw that turn. Problem is if Jer responded with his own Deathrite to exile the same land to mana-block him, then the whole line has to be abandoned but at least he didn't hit for drain that way anyway.
Also, he could've left the Skullclamp on Fyndhorn Elves until the end of the turn. When the control-changing and Pendelhaven effects end, Jer gets it back, it becomes a 2/0 and dies, Skullclamp triggers and Cam draws two cards. Clamp works very well if you can somehow attach it to your opponents' creatures. I mention these not to chastise Cam but because watching Highlander feels like those old puzzles in Duelist magazine and it's fun to see what solutions people find.
If the league "themes" continue, I'd like to suggest that in a future one, all participants play a deck that's very "not them." For example, Wheeler playing Death and Taxes, Ben Ulmer playing Control, etc.
1:41:15 Jeremy imediately shuffles his deck after putting the 5th card back on top, this wouldn't happen if he didn't make the mistake, and shuffling could potentially replace an otherwise bad card on top.
The second season of the league felt a lot more polished. We've seen each player pilot the same deck. What I would suggest to spice up 3rd season is if the players put together decklists collectively before the season starts. Perhaps have an episode of North100 where they discuss the interactions and inner workings of the decks and how will they interact in this curated meta. Then the players will get assigned a deck randomly before each episode so that we get to see how well can they pilot different decks.
As a YouTubr watcher on my phone, I find that the channel logo overlay (on the right bottom as I watch it) is covering the power/toughness stats on the displayed cards.
I would honestly love to see some magic players try to play modern yugioh, purely because of how common it is for some people to bring up constantly suffling with fetch lands, and yugioh is so much worse lol.
I would love to see a stream of beej learning and playing magic
Yes... But the supreme level 5 wizard would be doing the teaching
@@batata3399 he is the only superjudge left in existence after all
Either a stream or an episode of Friday Nights

@@andrewsparkes8829 i think it is similar to (darth) Jar Jar Binks. He knows everything but does not brag with it.
That mull to 4 come back!! What a game!

I would upvote again if I could

*Literally every single person on stream this night* "As a notable lands player"
We all know the only person saying it as a true fact is Wheeler.

Cut to Ben saying fuck like 6 times in a row when playing game 2
Force of Will targeting Wayward Swordtooth is the reason I watch this format.
Okay, I love that the real rivalry in this tornament is Everyone Vs. MATH.
MATH Merits All The Hate. :P
I like the different decks. The same ones were ok but I like variety.
Also always have Wheeler v Alex on video. They are always funny together.
always a good day to see another episode of Canadian highlander
Wow, these Persona-styled sprites are so pretty!!!

Nice thumbnail! Always love canlander and you guys!
I hope these happen more often. The couple week break or so was very sad.
The collective "Ben!" when he dropped a fuck got me real good
The Incidental Dry Roasting by Paul is the most savage.
Paul predicts Ignoble Hierarch at 1:36:40
I look forward to this every time. Thanks for the great content guys. #pteramandersaystransrights
Watching the backlog of highlander vids, and I absolutely loved Cameron's Deck Tech! Let's go Browns!
So thankful for this content. This format is so cool!

I loved this. Please continue!

Shoutout to cam keep truckin homie
Finally something to watch while leveling in wow
Read that while auto running back to Gadgetzan
I rewatched all the Aluren videos. I miss it.
loving the artwork of all the guys in the thumbnail!
5:26 "I'm gonna say second, not fourth... it's second in my heart."
Spoken like a true Gregghead.
I love the Cam version of Giant Woman
SAME
For future leagues the tie-breaker should obviously be judge's tower, lol. Especially if it's Wheeler and Jer.
Rip Ben he will be missed 💔
At 46:53 when serge reveals Leovold on top ben looks directly into the camera.
All I could think about when they were having issues reading cards was Chains of Mephistopheles
If the league "themes" continue, I'd like to suggest that in a future one, all participants play a deck that's very "not them." For example, Wheeler playing Death and Taxes, Ben Ulmer playing Control, etc.
Death and Taxes is a Ben classic!
1:41:15 Jeremy imediately shuffles his deck after putting the 5th card back on top, this wouldn't happen if he didn't make the mistake, and shuffling could potentially replace an otherwise bad card on top.
that song about land drops was great
"Put you back in the front"--Jer, 2019
THUMBNAILS!?!
Just wanted to mention, don't know if I just got a different button or something, but the button says "before damage, I concede" not in response...

This was a lot of fun! Nice to see multiple games played with the same deck. Please do this again!
Sidenote: decktech audio is out of sync.
As a YouTubr watcher on my phone, I find that the channel logo overlay (on the right bottom as I watch it) is covering the power/toughness stats on the displayed cards.
Pocket Folgers is my new favorite thing hahahahah
Need some Jer and Wheeler fanart to add to the thumbnail heads.
This made my day!
I wish I could like this video more than once
ben talking out of sync looks like he's an anime dub
Why aren’t u guys allowed to curse anymore
I feel like pocket Folgers didn’t get the laughs on stream it deserved.
46:52 Wheeler's face when
I've never seen anyone get every conceivable play with Field of the Dead wrong.
Ben singing Neil Young is pretty great.
Also....Cam I see you with the fight club quotes
Looks like Surge didn't play standard during the dark times
Please do more
Serge actually said underground sea... not blacky bluey 😱
(Inhales) what the heck is Canadian highlander?
search "North 100 Ep00" on youtube, they explain the basics of the format there
100 card singleton legacy format that instead of banning cards, they point cards and you can only have 10 points to use.
Iggy vintage *
They also like to describe it as legacy constructed cube. The only bannes cards are ante cards and shaharezad.
With all of these cute sprites, all I can wonder is....LRR Dating Sim when? XD
Funky deck tech, you should put it up solo. I didn't even know I was getting this content.
But where's anime!Wheeler?!
what is the music during the deck techs?
What is this new rule about them not being able to swear?
I like you better as anime characters, please change your very being to suit my needs. Thx
I prefer different decks week to week so we can see more of the format.
Okay its not fair, but its unfair in my advantage!
That icon of Alex looks like gendo
I'm a simple man, I see Serge I click.
What sleeves was Ben using?
2:39 During the Area 51 raid i see
Cameron's Giant Woman riff at 1:42:26 is fantastic! th-cam.com/video/Ywq76Rzgisk/w-d-xo.html
Serge no, don’t go to cheat step!
Edit: it got fixed everything’s fine
I miss Aluren already...
219:40 thank god I only run old lands
I would honestly love to see some magic players try to play modern yugioh, purely because of how common it is for some people to bring up constantly suffling with fetch lands, and yugioh is so much worse lol.
Is it just me or, out of all the LRR members who have animated busts on the channel, does Serge look most like a cartoon character?
He looks like a Pixar human irl too.
Prefer changing lists
Prefer different decks each time.
First... KAKA! deal with it
2:39:47
That's what games need to discuss more; identity politics. #transPLIGHTS
Noone fucking cares about RDW. There is literally no nuance to it.
