I've just finished watching monster.
The absolute beauty of it is how yohan appears so little in front of us..but still every setup every bgm..every sheer turnings terrify the audience. Execution is perfect. The way Urasawa didn't force Yohan with a split personality or tried to justify his work..instead portrayed the acceptance of his sin by Dr. Tenma..and still forgiving him..is absolute beauty. This anime will stay in my mind for a long long time.
And the question will linger..in reality is every life created equal?

When I started watching Asur I couldn't just help but imagine how Shubh was loosely inspired by Johan liebert.
1. Johan and Shubh both are extremely charismatic and smart.
2. Both have manipulative nature , like Johan almost manipulated a kid to attempt suicide and Shubh manipulated Nikhil to kill Ria.
3. DJ and Dr Tenma both delve deep into the past locations where the monster spent his initial childhood
4. Both of these characters became monsters due to identity problem and negligence (Johan 's mom confused between the twins and Shubh father treating him like monster)
5. DJ created Asur the same way Tenma created Johan . "I have created the monster. I will hunt him down"
6. Both of these characters are influenced by books (Hindu mythology and Franz Bonaparte written books)
7. Both want to prove just how evil the world is and both manipulate good guys (Tenma , DJ) to turn shadowy or gray
I felt this similarity too while Watching season 2 of Asur.
I had recently finished Monster before Asur season 2 and The connections between Shubh and Johan are quite clear.

Monster is in my top 5. And I agree to the fact that it's not for everyone. Monster is a very mature story by Naoki Urasawa and that's why it just feels so much real. It's not anything about achieving something or being the no. 1 in something. Monster is a beautiful story which proves the point which it arises at the very start of the story.
Yeah "Naoki Urasawa" is a great manga artist his other manga like 20th Century Boys,Pluto etc are also great.

Yeah its definitely not for everyone but still monster is great, also regarding the ending I think people should not expect to be surprised cause its not supposed to be surprising, the empty bed was forshadowed and anything apart from it would be less impactful as an ending to the story and character of Johan, anyways monster is perfect in every aspect and its one of my favorite pieces of media, Recommend if you like psychological stuff, one of the best execution of the themes it deals with and Johan has probably the best conflict I've seen

I started watching this anime today and i have finished 5 episodes and for sure I started to like this anime from first episode! I am really loving it! I have heard many things about johan and I am really excited to know about him more lol and I was really amazed by Dr tenma he's such a kindhearted guy

Naoki urasawa is a genius, he writes masterpiece after masterpiece and always two at a time. His manga "20th century boys" is one of my favourite. It can be recommended to everyone, but its pacing is faster.
Also the dark knight movie's plot is really similar to monster.not just one coincidence but from beginning to end, two main character's philosophy, what their motives are, main villain's planning and how he exicute it, part of local kid and his father in ending of main villain and many more.

It has a type of ending which you can interpret in whatever way you want, naoki urasawa is legit a genius , it might be a possibility that after johan heard it from tenma that he also had a name that he's not the one who is nameless monster he stop being a murderer and after that he started living a casual life or else he still got that psycho mentality that he's the nameless monster and he's still wondering outside killing peoples or else because he were unable to convince tenma that "no life is worth saving and the only thing in which humans are equal is death" he went back to being normal , or else johan has already died and tenma is just hallucinating his presence near him ...

I have seen so much anime and so terrific villains or back stories but when ever I saw Johan . Bro it literally stops my thought and i feel emptyness inside my chest ( heart ) .
I don't think anyone can recreate what monster puts to life. The level detail and the varying physiological perspective and their results are unimaginable.

So about Monster anime.
I will honest with my thoughts.
There will be some points I am going tell which will help you in a better way to watch this anime.
1) This show is Boringly good. I knew it's wierd but that harsh truth about this anime.
At some points you will be that much level of bored that the next time you come again watching this show it already will be past 5 days or 1 week. [ I really am serious at this point it took me '4' months to complete this anime even after I started reading the manga of this anime and i highly recommend you to read manga if you could.]
2) The pacing or I say stroy progression is slow. It's not like it is the slowest show in the world of anime but yeah it's slow. so be prepared before starting it.
3) It doesn't have some amazing scenes like other anime. It has some suspensefull and shocking scenes but they are grounded and i like that part of it
4) Please don't expect something bigger from it's ending. I my self was expecting something bigger and as a result I have a expression on my face after finishing the show just like this😶😐😑 this the exact face I have at end of the series.

5) If you have already come this far you may be thinking that is it really worth it to read this long script like review. I my self is not sure of it but I have a reaaally good experience with movies and shows. { Like - I have watched 250+ movies 25+, animation movies,10+ web series, 40+ anime and 25+manga's.} ( please i not prising myself or showing off. so don't take it in a negitive way.)
And my this watch list includes some of best ones like-->( highest rated anime) Full metal Alchemist,death note,even the most longest running series - one piece,breaking bad( the highest rated series till now),dark (the most mysterious series)and even the best MARVEL and DC movies even lord of the rings like movies.
6) Back to the anime.so, about some good things about this anime.
- it is best well written realistic fiction. You can't say that the type of character's written in this anime can't exist in real world.
- To me John and tenma the best character in this anime. Especially tenma the way he is written as a good man is realistic not like the type of character's written now a days. some mentions like - [tanjiro from (demon Slayer),deku from (my hero academia),asta from (Black clover).] I can say thay are worst example of what a good character look like Tenma is best good men character written I have ever seen. They sometimes feel like cringe but he (tenma)not at all.
- Personal advice if you don't have experience with 40 or 50+ animes or 20+ real life based fiction shows than please don't watch it.
- please enjoy this show for it's journey not for it's ending.

Why you everywhere?
The real fact about this anime is that everyone has their own interpretation about the ending of monster. What i felt was that johan was not the moster in the whole series, the author was describing how we all have a monster in our heart. This was the reason behind the last scene where johan's mother chose him instead of his sister, showing how she was a monster. Johan wanted to prove that tenma was a monster that is the reason why he had a gun pointed at the child, he wanted tenma to kill him chose to kill him and forget about the death of the child eventually making him a monster. But nothing happened as was thought now at the ending johan was not seen in his bed. From the sequence" Another moster" its clear how johan is just shifted to another ward. But did johan became a monster again the story repeat, i dont think personally because when lunge explained how he had no traces of the crime scene or criminal he was a monster but leaving the bed was a trace and tenma was an eye evidence to making us convince that johan will not be a monster again. But again this isban assumption, as we seek deeper anna also becomes an important character in the ending, she started to have some feeling with tenma what does this means. But basically i also does not have many answers for my many quistions myself so if you guys have any explanation you can explain.
I stopped monster at half coz of my exams and now after watching this video I can't wait to complete it 😃

I've spent 8 years watching anime so far
And I've watched a lot of horror series and movies and nothing scares me
But Johan Liebert is the guy who scares the living shit outta me
And he's still my favourite character
I'm just hoping that 20th Century boys will get an anime adaptation one day, it's from the same writer who've written Monster!
I watched monster till ep 30 and dropped it for 3 months cause I was bored. But then I started it again and man I completed the next 44 ep in just one week cause thats how it lifted. Yes but the pacing is slow

All the facts that you told here might be an issue for someone... But those are the thinhs that i LOVED about Monster.... Slowly building the tension, go high then start again .....it gives you the time to process the story... for ME... MONSTER is the best anime of all time
Yes I was interested how the world is going around in this anime, even those small arcs were fun and relaxing to watch..

Yeahh i agree,this anime targets a very specific type of audience,some might find it boring,some will find it overwhelming,some would say it's the best anime ever,some will drop it during the early episodes,it depends which type of anime watcher you are,so definitely, it's not for everyone!
Badal uploaded this video on 14dec, i watched it in 17 and started watching this anime on 21dec. After 3months on 22march, i completed this masterpiece and the journey it take us from a complex decision making to human psychology and mind control, with most accurate real world reference. Still I need time to process things watched and understand what just happen. Please guys give it a try to experience something much different may be only can delivered by this anime☺️

A year ago i was searching for the best of the best animes to watch and every recommendation had this 'Monster" in suggestions so i started watching it and honestly liked it but at the same time never felt like let's watch another episode so I just ditched it and it was forgotten, now I'll watch it with a different perspective hopefully would like it for the great anime it is
i finished this story in 1 week and i recommend this anime to badal also in one video was waiting for him to watch and here it finally is i think that the ending really was awesome and leaves us in suspense.

the reason he gave why every one cant handle was just same in my case because i started it with a mindset of something super monster type so i leave it at 16 then two days after thought watch it then left it on 25 then after two months started again with different mindset then okay it was just awesome
