    can you measure what your peak amplitude off the crank sensor is at cranking? have you checked the sensor gap? are they adjustable on those ? I had a similar thing on a yam once and the bolt holding the pickup was loose.

    Hi james! I have a CB 1000R and had the same problem, in the workshop official honda did not know which was the ruling and after trying out several things the solution was to change the fuel pump and takes 3 months working well, if the fault is not the pick up safely is the fuel pump, so ve preparing your Pocket because it is not cheap...

    I'm going with crank sensor, you said it right after I thought it. Broken/weak wire to it?

  • @hartatak22
    @hartatak22 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    hopefully you got it figured by now. Crank sensor is a good thought. On yammis I see when guys crash the hollow dowel pins get a notch in them holding the cover off center moving the sensor further from the trigger. Noticably longer cranking before catches and engine starts. But I think on the hondas they use solid dowels so they tend to crack the case instead of offsetting cover.
    Cheers

    I guarantee you that it is sensor CKP, CKP sensor voltage spike 20°C 0,7 V minimum! Disconnect the red plug from the sensor on the right side of the motorcycle, put the multimeter on 2 thousand millivolts alternating current, put the multimeter cable on the positive on the two-color cable and negative on the other, try to start and the value must be at least 0 .7 V, it is in the motorcycle service manual, if the value is lower it will be necessary to change it, you will need to drain the oil and remove the right side cover, to completely remove the cable you will need to remove the air box and other plugs It's a lot of work but it's worth the effort, take the opportunity to change the starter motor brushes, the bike will be as good as new.
    greetings from Brazil!!

    cranks but no start, no signal from coils. any voltage at coils when problem present? could the engine stop relay intermittently make a bad contact? not providing voltage to everything that it should... would still crank though...

    I had a similar issue with my 2009 model and replaced the battery(agm), nearly all the sensors(including the cpk sensor), relays and 3way diode etc. I also checked the clutch, side stand and neutral switch and also fitted a new starter / kill switch button, they are all working correctly. The charging system was working correctly also, BUT STILL WOULDNT FIRE. Last week I decided to replace the battery with a lithium one (so twice the starting power (cca). NOW IT ALWAYS STARTS FIRST CRANK. I think the stock battery of the CB1000R doesn't have enough juice to power the injectors, sparks, ecu and the starter all at the same time. That's what you often hear. I will monitor it for a couple weeks but it looks promising!

      hi all, with me, the power bank to jump start the battery never faults starting the bike,and starts like a rocket on steroids, i bought a lithium and yes it is better but I still have issues. could it be spark plugs or coils? because it cant really be the battery because these bikes run fine when new, so obviously something is weakening over the years and need to find what specifically, new strong battery only hides the failing of other faulty parts by boosting them with extra strong power. also i found that sometimes rocking the bike in gear and trying to start again helps,or maybe just my imagination. but in this video the it seems to be cranking fine so how can it be the battery? thats my 2 pence worth

    Not sure on this particular bike but is there not also a CMP (cam position sensor) on the control side? I had a VFR of similar vintage that had a similar crank no start, it had weak / no spark. Ended up being the pick up for the CMP on the end of the cam pulley was slightly bent and not generating a pulse. Easy fix, just bent it back and bingo!
    Not saying that's the exact problem here but may give you something to check, correlate CKP & CMP and verify wiring etc.

      James Wright-Roberts Hope you get to the bottom of it mate! Where were you scoping the CKP, at the computer or at a connector further down the loom? Any voltage drop on the signal wire between sensor and the computer? Seen a TH-cam case study (on a car) where there was a CKP signal on a scope (at the computer) but it was actually too weak for the computer to be able to see it and interpret. Good luck!

You just take the key out of the ignition and insert it into the ignition again and then you hear the fuel pump for like 2 sec and guaranteed it will start, seems like the transponder is not reading the key intermittently. Unfortually i haven't got the spare key when i bought the bike to prove my theory.

    • @hethel8
      @hethel8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had three of these and they all did this. The starter motor has worn out and expanded slightly. When hot particularly, the starter does not turn as freely as it should. One bike would only start once it had cooled off completely. New starter and battery is the answer.

    • @olpallix
      @olpallix 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hethel8 I think i agree with you on the starter, the battery only helps the starter motor work with more oomph hence why people point to ne battery, like i said before, a power pack starts the beast easy because it has more power, its like using a battery chopsaw with a shit blade it will just drain the battery down more and require more force. but it also points to wekened coils if it doesnt start well when hot like in my case.
      is it a big job to change the starter motor on these?

  • @przemsonm224
    @przemsonm224 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason is too low voltage, if you have a good battery, clean the ground contacts (left side of the fuel tank) and remove the starter, clean the gaps on the commutator, align the commutator and pour out the powder. The starter is 100% problematic if the battery is new and the ground contacts are clean. Unfortunately, removing the starter is shit. The motorcycle did not start on the hot starter, short circuits on it + temperature lowered the voltage by a few millivolts

    I am probably way off here but I've owned several Hondas that have issues similar to this and everyone of them would start after working the kill switch off and on 20 or 30 times to clean the contacts. I always shut my bikes off with the key to prevent me leaving the key on and killing the battery. My bikes sit out in the rain when I'm at work and get rained on occasionally. I even had a 83 cb1000c that would die going down the road and I could work the kill switch and it would start right back up and run for months again. To me it seems those switches get dirty and cause issues. It's cheap and easy for anyone to try.

    Lo hemos mirado todo, reglaje de valvulas, bujias, sensores de picado, sensor de punto muerto superor, incluso estando en valores correctos los hemos cambiado, bobinas, todo ok, pero tiene problemas de arranque, llegamos a pensar en el catalizador, asi que usamos un supresor para probar, y no encontramos solución a todos estos cambios.
    Investigando descubrí que con el arrancador la moto siempre arrancaba de forma correcta, no así con la bateria que marca el fabricante, con la culal hacia cosas muy similares a la tuya, pues bien, con bateria de litio, buena marca y en estado óptimo la moto arranca correctamente con un cca de 300 con la original y cca de 180, no arranca ni aunque la bateria sea nueva; ahora bien, a los primeros sintomas de desfallecimiento de una bateria de litio de cca 240 que tuve anteriormente aunque el motor de arranque giraba correctamente, no habia forma de arrancar.
    No se realmente porqué pero mi moto necesita un cca de arranque superior a 240 y que la bateria se encuentre en plena forma, de lo contrario mis problemas son muy similares a los tuyos, yo diria que aarranca peor que la tuya

    I’ve been scouring the internet for solutions to this. Got a 2012 cb1000r that does this if I ride a short distance and don’t get my engine up to temp (normally about 85-90 degrees)
    If I then turn it off and try to start, it will literally try to drain the battery off before you can start it.
    Leave it to stand for 20 mins and come back cranks first time.
    Brand new battery and reg/rectifier and new plugs. My next guess is coils unless someone has worked it out.

    Я отремонтировал эту неисправность! Я тоже очень долго искал причину! У Вашего мотоцикла есть следы падения на крышке двигателя справа!
