The Range Rover Sport is well-known as one of the sportiest, most agile cars of its breed, but with Autocar road tester Matt Prior behind the wheel even that's no match for the talents of Woffinden and his 60bhp speedway bike on the tight, shale covered confines of a speedway track. The challenge is to find out if Woffinden can lap the Range Rover Sport before his bike runs out of methanol - something that normally takes four or five laps at the Leicester track. Tell ya what!...those of you who don't understand Speedway , get yourselves along to your local track and witness ( imo) the best motor sport on the planet!....4 guys at times racing inches from each other...and in fact shoulder charging many times as they reach the 1st bend out of the gate.....Woffy is a talented lad,and very gracious, an asset to British speedway...

Those Speedway bikes deserve their own video, but of course Autocar had to throw a Range Rover into the mix.
The youngest speedway World Champion ever is Peter Craven. He won his first title at age 21. Woffy is 23. The engine in Tai's bike isn't produced by Jawa (I don't know why did Tai say Jawa), but by Italian manufacturer 'GM' (Giuseppe Marzotto).

Years ago, I was involved in speedway at the old Claremont track in Perth, WA. The fastest thing around that track were the bikes and logic should dictate that the next quickest would be the 1,000 cc sidecar outfits, but it was in fact type of tiny car that was something found on Aussie tracks back then, called a T.Q. ( Three Quarter car ) These were fitted with 500cc motorcycle engines and I guess that the only difference in lap times between the bikes and the T.Q's would have been the extra weight the T.Q's carried. The frames/chassis would have been a lot heavier and so too would the fuel load have been, because they had much longer races.
Perhaps one of the greatest ironies in speedway was the tragic death of England rider Gerry Hussey in 1959, while he was racing a T.Q. at the old Rowley Park speedway in Adelaide.
Claremont! Yes. Best speedway on earth. Big, fast and great for every class, from solos to sprintcars. Chum Taylor, Pilgrim, Barbegllo, Ray Geneve, dennis Nash are a few that spring to mind who were masters of this circuit.

Sure, its 'entertainment' but, all that production, all that money spent on shooting this, renting the R.Rover, the speedway track, the speedway champions fee's... All that for what.. less then 3 minutes of footage, dull dialogue and pretty much no conclusion other then 'fast bike & rider is fast'.. That is probably what Rytis36 is getting at. Maybe..

A 350-380 bhp, methanol, powered Midget, designed for racing dirt ovals will beat the bike! Like the bike no gears...but Midgets do have brakes

Zeta Lin Um... yeah, that's not always true, there are countless videos out there whose sole purpose is being informative, requiring no entertainment. However I will agree that videos on this channel may share both qualities but not necessarily favoring one over the other, I did not find this video entertaining whatsoever. Maybe if it was a race between the Range Rover Sport and a dirt bike through the woods or something like that, it could have been way better. But driving 2 and half ton SUV around an extremely small dirt oval track while a motor bike speeds past it seems not only pointless but unnecessarily dangerous as well. I guess the only thing I could take from this video is if I ever compete in a Speedway bike race, I shouldn't choose a Range Rover.

Looking at this guy cornering ”hard” reminds me of my gramps driving over speedbumps.. If i was Autocar, I would sack everybody else and let Steve Sutcliffe do some bonkers stuff. Like put some spikes on the Range and not get overtaken by a lap on lap2.
RR Sport is so chuckable on the dirt, that driving was a complete disappointment.

the result was quiete predictable to say the least - how could a 2,5t beast be faster than a lightwight track-specific-build motorcyle with a power to weight ratio of almost 1:1?!

That's just like saying a lambo aventador has 1000 hp when it only has 700.

obviously you cant read, i said almost.
Even if it's just 0:75:1 its WAY better than the 510hp : 2500kg from the RR sport.
And the extreme low absolute weight of the bike also helps with better handling/high maneuverability

Tai told you to take the inside line (at least partly) because it's the slow line...
Completely depends on where the grip is on the track, quite a lot of riders like to take the inside line on the corners because its quicker. As this most likely wasnt after 15 heats of racing and with an even shale surface the grip would most likely be inside to middle.
Drummer Glenn not for cars but for dirt bikes it's probably not depending on the weather and the amount of first that's in the track, the inside can be the fastest
