Great video, I did the same sep up before, this video just bring my memory back to my 12v system set up time, 2 full days just between shops and garages.😂 But recently i just get rid of the the battery box( Kickass one are really good, love it). But once you wanna plug in and using the outlet of the box or see the voltage it’s hard to reach and see. So i mounted a piece of board on left hand side of the tub ,and got the KickAss Mini power box running from the battery, it works more convenient, meantime we have more place to mount the inverter, battery and solar monitor, etc.
Hi mate, nice set up - I'm looking at ute tub fit outs at the moment for my dmax. Just one question about the compressor - they could have a max amp pull of 90 amp.......are you not worried running it through a 50amp anderson plug? cheers
Cheers mate 👍 While I'm not qualified to answer that, I would assume the Max load would only be momentarily during motor wind up I haven't had any issues pumping up all four tyres and with the added safety of the inbuilt circuit breaker in the KickAss box I feel pretty confident in the setup
Hey mate, quick question, did you have to make your own hole or did you use an existing hole feeding the wire from the tub to under the chassis? Could you give more detail and a run down of how you got it through the tub liner/tub itself?
Hey mate, there are existing holes at the top of the inner tub skin I tried to show as best as I could in the vid, but if you remove the splash guard and stick you hand right up there you should be able to find them Once the wiring is through, I was able to pull back the tub liner slightly and pull it over the top Cheers for watching 👍
Cheers mate 👍 I've got my fridge running 24/7 to keep a load on it and keep it healthy as the vehicle is my daily driver Also use it for lights, compressor and charging devices Hasn't missed a beat so far!
Hey mate, great vid, sorry this might be a noob question (I’m very new to this 12v stuff), but how did you know what amp fuse to plug into your fuse tap? I can’t find much info on this in the Kickass instruction manuals or in their setup vids, they just say “tap into a switched fuse.” Did you just match the fuse that was in the existing slot? From what I could see it looked like a 10amp fuse? Cheers!
Cheers mate 👍 Asking questions is the only way to learn 😀 Yeah I just matched the fuse already there, but even a low amp fuse should do as it's only a signal wire, current draw shouldn't get high enough to blow any fuse I would think. Having said that if it does blow a fuse you know something is wrong which is the point of a fuse in the first place
Hey mate, I have a roller cover so it's not fully in the elements A little rain and condensation do get in though and I have had no dramas at all All the electronics are on the top of the unit Cheers for watching 👍
Hey mate, nah they didn't come with it I just used some tech screws I had lying around, think they were 6 gauge, with a wide button head on them for load distribution Used 8 screws into plywood and they've held up great offroad so far
Hey Ben, It's been a while, I think they were pretty easy, just stretch the rubber over the cable attach the terminal and stretch the rubber over the terminal Cheers for watching 👍
Hey mate, The anderson ports on the box have auto reset circuit breakers pre-wired. Having said that, the compressor originally had alligator clips designed to attach straight to a battery. Cheers for watching 👍
While you bag out the kings stuff, there are many people out there buying up the 200watt lithium kings battery that has been tested and out perform any others on the market. So not all kings stuff is crap.
Not bagging Adventure Kings at all mate, I have a fair few of their products Just pointing out the quality difference in battery boxes as you get what you pay for, nothing about the battery itself Cheers for watching 👍
Why won't the fridge run off the 12v plug? I have the same fridge with a different battery box with no issues, but I'm swapping to this KickAss system?
Hey mate, It definitely would run off the cig plug, I swapped to anderson style for the more secure connection to avoid it being knocked out on the tracks Cheers for watching 👍
@@Shenanigans4x4 thanks for the fast reply mate going to tackle it this weekend! Did you leave your car remote away from the car before tapping into the battery sorry for the questions
No corrugated tubing to protect the wiring harness, no heat shrink on connections and running the compressor straight from the AGM battery. Not to mention that the battery box is the wrong way around. There are anderson plugs on the end as well as the back. All in all a pretty average attempt at a very simple install.
Not pretending to be a professional mate, used everything that came with the battery box I haven't measured amperage the compressor draws but haven't had any issues running it from the AGM
Good vid. Perhaps different music choices would appeal to a wider audience…I almost turned it off because of it and I wouldn’t watch more content if that’s what you got in all of them.
Finally someone who has good taste in music! 🤘 great vid mate

2yrs on, how has the Kick Ass battery box held up?
Great Video !!!

Hey mate what did you use to cover up your hole in your tub you made for the cable from battery under the bonnet to the kick ass one
Hey mate, I didn't make any holes for it
There are a few holes from factory right at the top of the inner tub skin

Yeah it does, Australian Direct would be your best bet for troubleshooting

How did you feed the battery terminal covers over the two cables coming from the battery box lid ??
Hey Ben,
It's been a while, I think they were pretty easy, just stretch the rubber over the cable attach the terminal and stretch the rubber over the terminal

Did you connect the compressor directly to the second battery? Any fuses ?
Hey mate,
The anderson ports on the box have auto reset circuit breakers pre-wired.
Having said that, the compressor originally had alligator clips designed to attach straight to a battery.
Cheers for watching 👍
Would be great if you explained what your doing. I would have been keen to know exactly how to do this
Still working on the camera nerves 😂
Basically just running one cable and plugging it in haha

All good mate
Mine is a PX1 base model so no wireless key fob for me
Always connect positive first, negative second
Have fun with the install!
What fuse did you tap into?
I used fuse 39 which I think may be for electric seats?
Any fuse that doesn't have power when ignition is off will be okay 👍
Did you just add 20a fuse to match what was on the diagram?
Hey mate great video can I ask what fuse is best to run too cheers
Wouldn’t be a bad idea to explain the steps before doing it, otherwise good video 👍🏻
