I dosed for the very first time at the beginning of the show 7/4/84 and it all kicked in at the beginning of set 2 with Help Slip Franklin burned into my soul. This is a great fat man rocks version, nice Brent touch

Thanks for this. It is indeed a rager. It makes interesting listening to run through all the Help-Slip-Franklins of 83-84-85. They played it 16 times in 83 -- the major standouts are Poplar Creek 6/28/83, Boise 9/2/83, Red Rocks 9/6/83 (a great show), Santa Fe 9/11/83 (another great show), and Madison Square Garden 10/12/83. But all of them make kind listening and it's exciting to hear how, as they get more familiar with the difficulties of Help-Slipknot, it gets tighter and fiercer. People who rag on the Dead in the 80s make me wonder what's with their ears.

The prior Ventura shows , as well as Red Rocks (after this Az. Gig) were consistently tight & wonderfull beyond description…I chose that run over the Diploma Graduation ceremony… Which I got in the mail when returning to NY.
Met Brendt in the hotel lobby, on this day at Compton Terrace. Brilliant 🎼👁

I missed this bust out at Compton Terrace, but was among the elated thousands when they opened the 2nd set with it at The Mothership 15 days later!

Okay, I'll bite. What happened on April 9, 1983? Where would one look to find this "Mothership"?

Hampton Coliseum, which features a capacity of 13,800 for music events, originally opened in 1969 went on to host 21 Grateful Dead concerts between 1979 and 1992. During the 1980s, it gained the nickname of “the Mothership” amongst Deadheads. While the arena initially earned the name due to its exterior’s striking resemblance to a spaceship, the moniker was fortified by four straight runs of shows from 1986 through 1989 which each featured all-time moments for the band. -- liveforlivemusic.com/features/grateful-dead-hampton-coliseum-retrospective-2019/ I'm guessing Jonathan is referencing 4/9/83: gratefulstats.com/Shows.html?showid=58c3156b-df33-4b5b-81e4-227e8c37154b

Hey now I was at this show.Compton Terrace was a small outdoor venue with an amusement park surrounding the venue. I did some psychedelic mushrooms 🍄 and was drinking White Russians. The energy at this show was just immense and the bust out of Help>Slip>Frank gives you Goosebumps ! Listen to Brent tearing it up on the keyboard 🎹 I think this version was Brent’s first time playing this tune . I miss those days hey Mahalo Llama Peace ☮ from Hawaii 🎸🏄🐬🏝🌺🐠🐳🍺🤙
