Hi Colleen, I lived 22 years in the Miami area, and I myself have been trough several hurricanes, to the folks up in the Florida`s big bend let me tell you somehting guys, and I dont meant to scare anyone, you should start doing your preps now before is too late, for a major hurricane hitting your area. Hurricane WIlma back in the year 2005, with simlar features than Helene, caught many of us by surprIse and the result was a tremendous devastation to our city, I wish you the best for those who will be in the eye of the storm, my prayers are with you all, rgs

I rode out Katrina in 2005 outside Biloxi, Ms. with 14’+ storm surge and WE thought we had seen it all till it hit. We based Hurricane Katrina on ALL the storms WE had rode out prior and was that a “BIG MISTAKE!” I will NEVER stay through this type of storm again! Helene looks to be like Katrina or worse. I pray for my family in Crystal River, Fla. and ALL the others in its path. I wish people would take this serious for I had front row seats and backstage passes for a storm like this one!#🙏🏻❤@edgarchegwin961

I can't imagine how awful it will be in the coming decades. We're absolutely going to witness some horrific shit in our lifetimes. Remember how Louisiana residents were called refugees in their own country after Katrina? Imagine that, but way more often. This is not good
Insurance may make it ridiculously expensive to rebuild in much of the area due to be destroyed. Look for population shifts. I hate to say it, but the only positive out of all of this is that many will begin to understand the validity of climate change and mankind’s contribution to this phenomenon.
The NHC hurricane storm surge map is always quite misleading to the public, because it does not depict flooding in low-lying areas near the coast and along any significant river that empties into the ocean near the hurricane's landfall site. Those rivers and streams will cause major local flooding as well. The normal (but also the rain-swollen) flows of those rivers are blocked by the storm surge waters at the rivers' mouths, so the river flow has nowhere to go except sideways onto the land.
