- Catasetum type Orchids are some of the coolest, yet misunderstood Orchids, since typically most go through a dormancy in winter time. they lose leaves and can scare growers, but one thing is for sure. They are nit allergic to water!

Hi, Dani. My brother and I have a family of wild doves living on the property. We love listening to them sing. I showed him how maya (spelling?) laughs whenever you make a point. We were wondering if you could do a repot and chill styled video talking about your birds. Unless you already have a video like that 🙂 i did watch the video from when you got maya but i love hearing her laugh and would love to see more of her
hi Dani, can you maybe make a recap video of the orchids you lost every 1-2 months ? It would be useful to see that no matter how good you are some losses are almost inevitable, especially if you have a big collection.

I couldn’t agree more! I grow mine in semi hydroponic and they are getting at least a little bit of water every week because the roots are used to the moisture. Never had any problems. I grow them for 4 years now like this! Good video! Thanks ❤
I'm REALLY looking forward to your new catasetum tutorial! I've bought a Fredclarkeara After Dark 'SVO Black Pearl' two years ago and it hasn't bloomed yet. It gets lots of growths/bulbs and lovely leaves. But then the leaves wither and I don't get any flower spikes at all. :( I did hear that maybe my type of catasetum is not the easiest to start off with... but I'm scared of getting a "normal" catasetum if I'm just not taking good care of it. In my care I slowly give water when the roots are 1 inch long. And I keep increasing the watering amount as well as add fertilizer. And then when the bulb is huge and the leaves are big and lovely, I keep watering and fertilizing. But then alas... the leaves wither and I have no flowers. This has happened to me for 3 growth cycles. But yes I only had the orchid for 2 years. Something strange is going on... help, Dani! PS - I just LOVE your channel!

Hi Danni, do you have a tutorial on the rechingerara chichiriviche orchid or can you make one please. They are so pretty, but I dont want to kill my new one, and there is little info on them.
I got a clowesia Rebecca Northen in march at the local show after seeing a grace dunn someone brought to show off at the local club meeting. It was on the expensive side, and only one pseudobulb - the seller told me it had a new growth starting. But when I repotted it, I found a second new growth hiding down under the medium, and a couple weeks later it started growing a third, so I'm very happy with it.
I read about someone doing an experiment with watering catasetums just very lightly in the early growth stages, so that they didn't risk rot, and it didn't hurt the growth, so I've been giving mine a spritz of water daily; good to know other people are relaxing on the draconic watering advice.
Hi, well it seems some growers are still stuck in their ways 🤭 anyone can do as they feel best, but imagine being told by strangers on the internet that you are advising this awful thing to people, when you’ve done it for about a decade and there was never any drama 😬 it doesn’t even make sense, now I read in a comment that I don’t know who said they grow in the dry season.. excuse me what?? When we all know these guys drink water like there’s no tomorrow otherwise they keel over in summer lol yeah anw 🤭

I got a very young Monneirara Millennium Magic last year and it had a major issue with thrips. Sadly it shriveled up and died 😢
Oh no sad to hear :(( yes pets really mess with their growth as they compromise the annual new growth :(
Have you ever grown these types of orchids in leca? I know that you said your cattleyas didn't grow to their potential. So if you have had them in leca, how did they do?
Hi, yes I have but I discovered the system to not be wet enough for their needs in my climate. These guys drink tons of water in their growing season :)
Thank you. I bought one about 3 years aho from i think Homedepot but the tag never gave the name. Mine just finished flowering and some of the canes are drying off. So my question is. Do I have repot it back in moss or can I put her in orchid mix.
Hi, are you sure you have a Catasetum type? You can pot it up in whatever mix you like best, I prefer moss personally because in the growing season these orchids drink copious amounts of water and moss just makes my life easier :)
