You know how to keep biting insects away such as mosquitoes. Also if you're in a safe place it would give you more room inside the van overnight to move the contents into this tarp enclosure. Just a couple of thoughts

I’m going to start planning the set up in the van so I can start building it.
It is nice to have something to camp out in for fun and if you're traveling like you said to go get a car or something.
I thought about a roof top tent but they are pricey. Plus it’s a van so there is so much room inside already.

Making it into a camper would be fun. You and your family could go camping on the weekends.
It would have room for 1-2 inside. It wouldn’t have facilities either.
