  • On this episode of the Flying Dutchman Podcast I interview a former Wild Weasel Electronic Warfare Officer about his time in the F-105 Thunderchief and later in the F-4 Phantom in Vietnam. I am also given permission to read the letter of reprimand the group of officers received for actions in the Officers Open Mess while in their underwear and boots. The officers mess had a brass peacock on a brick wall (instead of a fireplace which was normally used) which they used for "target practice". If you missed the peacock, you bought a round. The broken glasses cost $.50 each and were paid for. The letter was highly exaggerated and was thrown out by the wing commander. The shambles referred to was a common happy hour occurrence which just required sweeping and mopping the floor and straightening the stools and chairs, which the group accomplished prior to leaving the club.
They were on TDY as they had an Air Defense mission supporting Taiwan, who gave their F-5s to South Vietnam. We were there (CCK) TDY from Kadena, Okinawa. In fact, the Commander-in-Chief of the Chinese Air Force gave each of the officers wings after flying 50 Missions.
It is with great pleasure to bring to you my interview with Col. Joe Shriber , a Wild Weasel!
