Have flown both Etihad and Emirates on a very recent trip to the UAE and I have to say Etihad is much, much superior to Emirates. The quality of service, food, etc have declined significantly on Emirates and Etihad is now taking that spot. Emirates is turning into the US carriers and trying to cut cost on everything / charge customers every possible way. Etihad still has customer service as their priority. Will only be flying Etihad on trips to the middle east and Asia
Hi Bob. Thank you for your comment! During the last year I flew in Etihad 3 times, they were great on all 3 flights. They are carrying a higher bar compared to their competitors. I am planning to flight in Emirates hopefully soon. Be well!
How was your experience at pre clearance to USA at AUH airport? Are they stringent? I have heard that we need to be there for pre clearance 4 hours before our flight? But how can we do that since the layover is only 2 hrs 30 mins.. Kindly guide.. TIA
You will have to go through security and pre clearance. Last time I was in transit I had 1hr 50mins and it was ok. Security took me 15 min and as an US passport holder TSA was quick. Few people were there in the line. They only thing is that the airport is big so the walking distance can take you another 15 mins to your gate. You should be ok with 2:30.
How is it with baggage allowance? Besides 1x7kg carry on luggage, is it possible to have a backpack or a handbag? What would they do in case of duty free shopping bags?
Is Etihad still allowing personal backpacks for Economy flight? MANILA TO LONDON I booked economy and I have a herschel backpack that has 30L size but 3kg inside only for my personal backpack/belongings that includes my personal laptop and a portable monitor together with all travel documents. A ps5 bag that fits the dimension of the carry on baggage rules with 5kg total weight A checked in baggage with 30kg total weight Will this all get through? My flight is in the end of the month. Hope to hear all your thoughts and suggestions Do not send me the link of ETIHAD baggage rules because I am confused as there are a lot of post that they get through with personal backpack.

I did fly with Etihad airways from abu Dhabi to London in Boeing 787/10. Did enjoy the flight.

Etihad is also following suit in some regards, recently they started charging for seat selection even during online checkin

As far as I know, only one cabin lugged is allowed. I was asked during check in. They give a tag for the cabin luggage.

I had no problem in bringing my backpack (15"x13"x8") into the cabin on this flight.
