We Sold The Model T...

  • The video starts with meteorologist, Daddy Cornstar, coming in live for the local weather and crop report. Once he gets to the main farm, it is time to unhook the chemical tanks from the Freightliner semi. Unhooking the chemical trailer can be a bit of a task sometimes. Once the Freightliner was unhooked, it was time to bring the older Brent 674 grain cart into the big machine shed. The older cart was being pulled by the 2745 Massey Ferguson.
Once the cart was unhooked, the dryer was pulled out of its summer vacation spot and drug up to the main yard. Once there, Cooper and I got busy tearing the grain pits apart to clean the rotten corn out of them. It was quite the messy, smelly process.
The next day consisted of several meeting with people that were not filmed. Later on in the evening, our combine mechanic showed up to pick up the Model T. He has been asking about buying the Model T for years, so we finally sold it to him. It took no time to get it loaded. Once we got it loaded, Cooper and I grabbed the 2005 Bobcat T-190 and started moving augers.
The next day we started working on the grain pits and putting the dryer and its respective augers into place. We have to wait for an electrician to show up to finish working on the dryer, but it is very close to being up and running.
After the dryer shenanigans, Brandon from Champion Seed showed up to do some moisture tests in the Champion field. Dad came along with us and we were pleasantly surprised at how the corn looked. Although, the corn has a lot of drying down to do. We also did a moisture test on our first planted field, and although it is close, it still has some time to go.
Thank you for watching. Remember, Jesus loves you!

Wow Cole! I've just stumbled onto you and as a Grandma, I am impressed! Was a townie until my folks retired and took a job as Ranch Foreman. I was 14 then and I learned how to drive a team of horses and we fed 40 to 60 head of moose with the cattle every winter, 2 times a day. I loved it! We lived in a 2 room log cabin, with a bathroom and ate at the main house where the owners lived. 30 miles to the nearest town, I rode the school bus 60 miles a day and did my homework while bouncing down the road, until it got too dark to read. Dad met me every night with either horses or the ranch truck, and snow levels. Weekends, we worked and some mornings I was up and out by 4:00am helping dad out. We had to chop holes in the creek for the livestock to have water and bring the team in, harness and load the hay sled, milk the cow and sic the dogs on the moose, to bring the horses and sled through the gates. While 2 dogs were doing that, another brought in the saddle horses. They ate while we fed the cattle and the dogs guarded the sled and horses keeping the moose from charging us or the sled. It was a great life back in the 60's! You have the right attitude and your folks raised you right. You'll do ok in life. Just pick a good, kind Christian woman who has good work ethic and isn't afraid of getting her boots dirty or hands calloused, helping you out. Make your children work by 4 yrs old and take them with you when you can. Teach them well, and don't just have one, four is a good number. Out the lot of kids, you might have two that will stay on the farm, if you're lucky! Homeschool them if you can and keep them away from the riff raff of public education. It will steal your childrens souls and draw them away from you. That's about all the advice this old Grammy can give a smart young man like yourself. God bless you, son and in all things, be honest and kind. There's few people in this life that can be trusted so if you have a good honorable friends, hold them close as a brother.
      Grammy D

Darn, Shell Cshells, "Once upon a time?" So who exactly is the backbone of our country (I'm referring to the USA, of course)? The millennials that only care about technology, make-up, have poor grammar, politicians or in general the ones that want everything except work? Sure, small businesses, which seems that they have, maybe they are larger, (I do not know), is the vast majority of our economy, HOWEVER, we, all need food, where does that come from? FARMERS, either from here, whether imported or exported. You must not be talking about the USA. IMHO, farmers are key to our lives......RIGHT NOW...... again, IMHO

Cole The Cornstar how’s the Model T restoration coming? Has he got the engine running? That might make a fun video at some point, maybe meet up somewhere and get the fix-up details on it. I mean, we all watch you guys fix augers, seeing grandpa’s old T on the move would be pretty exciting!

I find this interesting here in Florida because some old Iowa friends had a farm for not only corn but grain- they used to talk a little about what was happening on their farm. They came down during winter- sent us an aerial picture of their farm once and looked much like yours. Thank you for sharing- this is very interesting and love your humor. Congratulations to the man who bought the car - what a nice car. Maybe you could post when he gets it going again.

I remember playing in my farmer friends corn dryer, sinking up to our thighs into the nice warm kernels, in the 1970's. It had a big open top so we could climb in through the top. For some reason I remember only doing this at night, maybe we did that so we wouldn't get caught. It was probably dangerous!
