That's where Agustin De Iturbide was crowned first emperor of Mexico during the first Mexican Empire, the body of Emperor Agustín rests in that cathedral 👑

As another American, I agree. It really looks like a Gothic-Baroque hybrid. A very interesting design choice, and honestly a pleasant one. I myself prefer Gothic churches over many later Baroque ones because they have a better sense of visual balance and neat organization inside. This Mexican cathedral really seems to take that into consideration and combines the best of both types.

As a fellow American I am appalled that you didn't give Mexico City a quick google to learn that the whole city is built on the ancient lake that used to be the Aztec capital city. All of the old buildings are sinking in that city. The groundwater has been been pumped out for years which has caused subsidence. Mexico has spent a lot of money trying to reverse the sinking of that cathedral.

There are ruins 35 miles North of Cancun, and it's the first church(Boca Iglesia) on the continent of America. I believe it doesn't receive enough recognition and importance as it merits.

Nonsense about the pendulum: it was put in during the early 2000"s to track the stabilization work on the foundations. When there is an earthquake you can actually see the pendulum moving for the next few days. And NO, CDMX is not build on a river, but a lake.

I love Mexico too, and I applaud your enthusiasm, but you really should do a little more research before posting blatantly false information. There is a lot of what you are saying that is total BS - this video is literally at the level of a third grader. I will never understand why people take pride in displaying rank ignorance - you could have done your part to inform or educate people. The cathedral was not built on a river or even the lake bed. It was on an island, and the subsidence is largely due to the pumping of water out of the aquifer underneath. The metropolitana is the largest cathedral in Mexico, but it is NOT the oldest. That would be the cathedral in Mérida!
