In this episode Sofia and Ben are taking an old Kit guitar from Quality Controls 'reject pile' and turning it into an awesome semi-hollow tele-style guitar. This is Sofia's first ever electric guitar build.

I used the MTASG trick for the first time this weekend building a 6 string cigar box guitar!!! Was using a piece of scrap white oak for the neck which had a taper in it already. The trick was the only way I was able to cut a super tight scarf joint properly in plane. Thanks for all you do, Crimson team! You're an inspiration to all of us the world over!

I’m a guitar tech. I use the masking tape and super trick that I learned from you almost daily.
Very nicely produced… it’s different just watching someone lost in their craft, without trying to explain every step along the way. Although I have yet to attempt to build a guitar myself, I have watched these videos for the past few years and just through repeated viewings I am aware enough of what each step involves, so just being able to watch with music in the background was quite relaxing as well. Thanks for posting and keep ‘em coming!

one thing i can advise (you are a much better luthier than me! I've doing repairs and such for 25 years) 10:45 fold the end of the tape at the corner for faster removal. Saves me tons of time!

Otherwise, the thinline looks amazing already and I love the attention that Sofia brings to every aspect of the guitars that are being worked on.

I was kinda surprised as well, given how long Sophia has been at Crimson.
I think Ben had just learnt a new trick to demonstrate the RAW POWER of masking tape and glue, so wanted to put it in a video somewhere :)
When I do my bindings I like to tape from top to bottom, I find it holds the binding tighter in the channel

Absolutely brilliant!
Love my swanp Ash custom built left handed tele that was built for me in 2001 it is a 60s design tele and I absolutely love it! Slab Ash body and slab maple neck ( desperate for a re fret and it will have stainless steel frets very soon ) its beautifully balanced sounding telecaster but it dosnt have the same punch as a alder telecaster tho it's just very well rounded and I love it! As heavy as my 90s les paul tho at over 5kg!
This was great, thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next instalment.

This is strangely very similar to a design I was thinking about using for GGBO but just different woods and a little carving on top. This is giving me some ideas about how to address some assembly details.
Looking good! Semi-hollowbody Tele style is on my project list so loving seeing one here. Ash top, but curious what the main body is. Thanks for sharing!

I don’t want to be a kill joy, but I feel compelled to say lose clothing, jewelry, and especially dangling cords around the neck are extremely dangerous when using power tools and equipment.

So nice watching Sophie work. She is always so intentional and precise. Most people go through the motions and get decent results specially if they have been doing something for a long time and get decent results but that reach for perfection in every task is not there any more. Not for Sophie. Reasons like that are why I enjoy watching Gio @Tornelli Guitars and Todd @Sweet T Guitars. All three send me back in time watching my Grand Father working in his shop when I was learning from him. The only difference is they do not shake the building when they whack their head on floor joists or heat vent in the basement being to engrossed in their craft.
I do have a question though. Seems to me it would have been more beneficial to drill the cavity wire holes before the top went on. That way specifically in the control cavity you are not drilling over a top risking damage. Thought process?
I am a firm believer, that the area behind the bridge should be kept solid and never get routed out. Anything else, kudos!
That should read putting a drop top and T style kit!
Curious about why wiring channels were not cut before applying the top...saves a step later and the risk of drilling with a long bit. Nice build!
Normally, I"m not a fan of the tele visually (Love the sound though), but i gotta say a dark bound tele does look nice.

What is the advantage of using masking tape and super glue over say using a good quality double sided tape? Is it that the masking tape comes of the work more cleanly?

I didn’t like that scalpel job on the f hole! I wouldn’t have the control to do that
I assume that's on the underside of the f hole to make it appear thinner.
Sofia is great but she needs to tell us what she is doing!
I think thats the whole point of Sofia's building on the channel. Its a counter to Ben. Creative, wild, Ben explains everything and cant stop talking. Sofia, quiet, methodical, detailed.
Sofia writes lefty, holds her chisel lefty and planes lefty, I'm gonna be so disappointed if she plays righty
That would maybe explain why she doesn't do demos of any of the acoustics we've seen her repair....

Although you probably don't care about my comments, I encourage ALL to CEASE uploading & commenting (except re-posting this) UNTIL TH-cam restores "channel name" to comments on videos.
The level of confusion with arbitrarily assigned "handles" that are not 'coherent/compatible' across platforms is a new level of authoritative-dominion causing confusion among content-creators & 'users' of various platforms.

Restore "channel name" to all comments. Channel 'owners' retain ability to choose to change their "channel name" to include "@" and other alterations voluntarily.

TH-cam does not give a stuff about you or me. They do not give a stuff about comments either. They can tell, we are still watching the video;s and the ads, so, they dont care about your protest ..... at all. TH-cam care about 1 thing. ADVERTISING REVENUE. If you want to protest then the protest must decrease TH-cams advertising revenue. If it does not then they dont care. How to do that, I dont know. Appealing to advertisers to cease advertising probably wont work. Adblocking software is the only angle I can think of. A protest movement that provides updated free ad blocking software and agrees to stop updating the software when demands are met. Good luck
