Did this in my driveway, was a little nervous during the job, ended up working well. I replaced my whole oil pan as it was damaged. Got quoted 1300 ended up paying 200 for a pan and spent about 5 hours. Thanks to this video. Lol btw car sounded pretty funny with no exaust.
Leave it to Ford to require the exhaust be removed for a simple oil pan gasket replacement. I'll be doing this soon on a 2010 Escape, and I expect I'll spend more time on the exhaust than I will the actual gasket replacement. LOL. Appreciate the "how to" video A1 Auto.
Followed torque specs and procedure exactly as you put it. Cracked the oil pan. Note** everything looks great here so far, but before torquing the two bolts to 30lb ft into the transmission, I would more than hand tighten the rest of your bolts* perhap torque all the oil pan bolts to 9lb ft, then torque the two to 30lb ft, then go back and torque the rest to 18lb ft. Reason I say this, is that the two you torque first to 30lb ft will be holding the rear of the oil pan DOWN from its mating surface at the base of the engine block. So if you torque these to 30lb feet like he did, then do the sequence around the pan, there is a chance you will crack the oil pan at the rear of the block like I just did. Plus I'm using a snap on digital 3/8 torque wrench, and did it exactly as he said. So FYI, do a partial torque on the those bolts going to the trans. I belive they just need to be snug. It's kind of a stupid design, as there really isn't much of a need to put two bolts to the trans, just the pan. So keep that in mind when doing this job.
NO, he did NOT show all of the half-hour long, OR MORE, for a DIY at home, TROUBLESOME ORDEAL of removing the OTHER FIVE, RUSTY, EXTREMELY DIFFICULT NUTS, STUDS, "FLAT" end BOLTS.
can you please provide the part number for the gasket. I can't find it anywhere online. Also, does the 3.0l v6 and 2.5l 4 cylinder use the same gasket?
On vertical filters where you can put them on with some oil inside without spilling it everywhere, it’s a good idea. However, not doing so really isn’t a huge deal and is unlikely to effect the life of the engine too much
Hello my friend, excellent videos of yours, they have helped me out a lot since I also have a Ford escape 2008, right now I am replacing the valve cover gasket but I need to remove the disptick tube, would you please tell me how to remove the disptick tube because I need some room to set up the cover valve again and the tube is giving me a lot of troubles! @@1AAuto Please make a video on the first gen V6 Escape. Im in Vegas (rust free zone). I'll volunteer my Escape so you can show us how its done. Thanks
First of all I want to thank you for this valuable lesson. Next, i have done this job twice on the same truck and it is leaking oil from the same bolt. I have no idea what could it be.... any explanation?
If you need to change both the oil pan gasket as well as the timing cover gasket, which order would you perform the tasks? Timing cover gasket and then oil pan gasket or oil pan gasket first and then timing cover gasket? Without removing the engine, i'm pretty sure you have loosen/remove an engine mount and lift engine up on the oil pan to get to the timing cover. I'm thinking about the gasket area where these two meet. I know i'd need to put a 2x6 or something under the oil pan to not puncture it. Thx.
Thanks for the video. Do the escape and the fusion use the same oil pan? My wife’s fusion has a stripped drain plug from Walmart doing oil changes. I can’t get the drain plug out. I’m going to have to replace the entire pan.
I run a mobile mechanic service this is a common call I get ,find someone in your area that runs welding services ,have them weld a nut to the rounded drain plug ,then pull it out while it’s still hot ,works everytime
Thank you for this lesson. I particularly appreciate the time you took explaining the reassembly of the exhaust components. My question is why the rtv on those particular spots on the oil pan? Is this a Ford requirement from their manual? I'll be doing this job soon myself and need some clarification. Thank you!☺
On the engine block above, that is where the timing chain cover attaches to the block. So there are 2 separate pieces of metal joined together. Anywhere you have 2 pieces of metal you need to seal that point up or you may end up with leaks. Most engines are like that from what I've experienced.
Hello, Thank you for your feedback! He is using an impact air gun on that recalcitrant stud, available at any auto parts warehouse. You could also just use a hammer for this. Please let us know if you have any further questions! +Billy Garner
+mary santoyo You should be able to call any local mechanic and get a quote for what the labor would cost and how long they estimate it to take. These ranges vary and we would not be able to give an accurate estimate.
Might not have a solid gasket. Some engines just use RTV for the entire gasket. Searching really quick wouldn't bring up anything but transmission gaskets.
How would I know it’s not a transmission leak? Underneath my 2012 Ford Escape it’s covers in oil. I’m not 100 % sure if it’s oil leak or transmission fluid leaking. I need help!!!!
The transmission and engine block are separate and the oil pan should not have any kind of a transmission leak. Make sure you can see exactly where the leak is coming from, and spraying some brake cleaner on the leaky area can help with that. The next indicator is the color of the fluid that is leaking. Engine oil is generally going to leak blackish under the engine (used, dirty oil), where transmission fluid is reddish brown. Hope that helps!
Can you guys show how to replace the Upper oil pan gasket for a Ford Mustang V6 Base 2008 (and similar year generations)? Only found 1 video and couldn't really follow what they did. Shops around here are charging $650+ to replace the upper oil pan gasket. sheesh!
No lift? Drive it up on some blocks somehow. Im about to be doing this job myself along with the A/C condenser, dryer and a few other A/C issues. Only thing the shop has to do for me is vacuum the freeon out before i start. Then when im done they have to evacuate the ac or whatever its called and fill it up with freeon. The parts the shop twice and a couple tools will cost me about $850 CAD altogether compared to roughly $3000 at a shop.

@@Werewolfmage seems American car manufacturers have been adopting dumb designs for awhile now. Don't get me started on dodge products.

Prices depend on gender. Mostly, they inflate prices for females because they know that females don't even know how to open a hood.
Quote given to me in the Olympia Wa area was 1200-1500$
think it's about $350-$380 at a Ford dealer, so you're getting ripped off if charged more than that
