I stumbled upon the album “I Was Born…” a few years ago, and marveled at how masterfully she performed these intimate Legrand songs. It didnt hurt having the composer accompanying her, and he never gets in her way. This led me to her album of Brahms lieder, also intimate for an otherwise big voice.

Lady Jessie Norman was totally fluent in French. She gave to it the accent she wished...she could speak with Italian accent, or German..whatever was funny to her...another talent she had ....

Beautiful Rendition, the photo is powerful as well. Looks as if a powerful corrosive tear has torn away apart of her cheek permanently, leaving a scar with a crevice that along with the music reaches deep into the depths of ones soul.
What a way to put it, friend! Ms. Norman’s rendition has always been wonderful. Few other voices come close in my mind.

I miss my private friend, Jesse, who felt that her voice was not right for Die hirt auf de felsen, Schubert's last composition. I've performed it many times as a clarinettist. Jesse was wrong! I'm sad to say it.
