  • Today Nell’s training schedule is focused on creating more movement options through the toes and midfoot, increasing eccentric and isometric strength in the lower leg, and “greasing the groove” of ankle motion. These are the beginning steps to create the potential for as much elastic energy return through the lower leg as possible.

Nell came roaring into the marathon scene with a 6th place finish at the Boston Marathon in October of 2021. With this COVID rescheduled race, she has a unique opportunity to race Boston again only 6 months later on its usual time in April. She's set her sights on the podium and is analyzing every component of her training to make sure she's strong, fast, and ready to conquer this historically challenging Boston course.

A special thanks to Keith @higher_ground_athletics for his incredible wealth of knowledge! We're excited to share more of his insights as he works with Nell over her build up to the Boston Marathon in April 2022!
Stay tuned for weekly episodes covering everything in Nell's training including more strength workouts, speed workout, long runs, nutrition, mindset, flexibility, recovery, race strategy, and behind the scenes with her coaches, friends, and other runners in the Boulder area.

Hey nell, what do you use the toe spreaders for? And do you use it outside of gym day?

Curious if your strength coach has thoughts on wearing running shoes while doing strength work as opposed to flatter sneakers?
