    Hi Chris, As we are getting towards protection time, could you recommend a list of things we need to get for overwintering, tree ferns, tetrapanax etc

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm doing this week by week in the videos. T rex generally doesn't need protection.

    Thank you so much, some great advice- My colocasias I put in my unheated greenhouse and never watered it but start to water in spring, is this ok? I've had it about 3 years, also I've missed separating it this year can I divide it in spring ?

    Congratulations Kris on the birth of your little one. I do have a gardening question, do you take your Butia palm in over winter? I purchased one this year but not quite sure if I should life it and put it in the green house. Much love from Cleone in Derbyshire :) xx

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Butia are fine with minus 5 and even down to minus 8ish for short periods. So they have some hardiness. They are hardier planted out where their roots are more protected.

      Thanx Chris, we have had down to minus 19 here where I live, think I will lift it and pot it then put it in the greenhouse which is unheated but will offer some protection. Thank you for the advice it has helped. Hope you and your wife are managing to get some sleep. Much love :) xx

    Wondering about the colocasia. I’ve potted them up ready for winter. I don’t have a green house, only a low light shed or low light heated room in the house. Will they go dormant if kept quite dark? I don’t want to lose anything as I’m only one season in. Thank you.

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which types do you have. I've over wintered all types before, dry at room temperature.

    • @Justafan333
      @Justafan333 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      YorkshireKRIS fontanesii, esculenta, dark/burgundy stem? And a couple more I’m unsure of. Maybe jacks giant also. Would they keep foliage if kept dry? I only have a small heated propagator so am very limited with bringing things back into growth with heat.
      Thanks Kris.

      Will all my plants be ok in a north facing room?

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They'd lose all foliage and be dry like onions but they'll be fine. I've done a separate video on doing this.

    Is that amaranthus "red spike" you have in the video? Thx btw congrats on the little one.

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's 2or3 different types in the garden. I can't remember for certain if one is red spike. I think possibly.

    In another video you said pink China was hardy. Is the colocasia on this video a different variety? Thanks

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there's more tender types here.

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most colocasia do yes but not all.

  • @indiancruise12
    @indiancruise12 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    is the colocasia the edible one ?

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      General colocasias are edible only the species is normally eaten, not the cultivars
