And then do a video explaining that one, and another explaining that one, and then another for that one, and one more for that, and another, and one more, and...
I just read through your replies to the comments in this video and you said it takes 2.5 to 8 HOURS?!!! Dude all I can say is wow. I appreciate how much work you put in your vids👍
This was a really interesting and well thought out video :) really enjoyed it. Question: How many videos/arrangements ahead are you? And how many do you currently have in the pipeline to do at some point? Also I think it would be interesting to hear a snippet of raw audio compared to compressed/mastered processed audio.
I try and stay at least 2 weeks ahead with videos, and arrangements about a month just in case I suddenly get too busy to do any. I can then manage my time so I can catch up. At the moment I'm starting to choose Christmas tunes :) There'll be a Q&A with some other requests like that at some point, probably in November
Seb Skelly, JOB WELL DONE! I enjoy listening to your arrangements because some of them are different, quirky, funny and 'not originally intended for brass'. I'm playing your arrangement Don't Stop Me Now in a contest next month. When we play it well, it sounds awesome. I'm playing the Eb Tuba part and it's a pretty big blow for me. I'll try and film us and send it to you when we get a bit better at it. Other people in our group have expressed interest in playing your version of Africa next, but I personally want to have a go at Uptown Funk. We've got two Cornets (or Cornet and Flugel), Eb Tenor Horn, Trombone (or Eupho) and Tuba
Looking forward to Brown Eyed Girl now :) - Van is one of my favourite singers ever and Astral Weeks one of my favorite albums for many many years now. Thanks for the explanations :) We are loving the Ed Sheeran too :)
What I want to know: do you have different mouthpieces for horn/malleophone? Also: how does the tuba get that low when it looks like the size of the horn
Depends on the complexity of the original tune and how creative I get with the arrangements, it's usually a minimum of 2.5 hours of arranging for the simplest ones…
On average how long would you say does it take you to write the arrangements for the songs and what sort of education do you need to have to write music. I've tried to write a few songs for marching band but i'm not very good at it.
It depends on the complexity of the original tune and how creative I want to get with it. It can range from 2.5 hours to probably 8 in total (though not usually all in one go). Bit of theory helps, but mostly it's from playing in bands and orchestras for years, hearing how things sound and work together, and also paying attention to notation conventions so my scores look pretty. Also, writing unidiomatic parts and getting told it's too hard is a fast way to learn how to write differently for each instruments! Keep at it :)
Seb Skelly Oh ok. I think it would help a lot if I actually knew how to play other instruments than just trumpet. I've wanted to learn its just my band director want me to just stick with trumpet.
Yo Seb mate? You like seeing me doing collabs with my mate, that totally awesome lovely lad named Joe Bin eh? ;) :) It’s always a pleasure working with him! 😃😃😃 And you’ll be pleased to know that I’m hoping to do collab with wor favourite Dutch lass, dear Miss Eve Pellie one day! 😃😃😃 She’s not a musician no, just wait see what we’ll hopefully be showing! ;) :)
@Michael Banks That’s a good question, I don’t know because I’m not him, but i would assume he has music on his music stand (in the video) and has it behind/close to his GoPro. It’s what I would do, as when filming, you don’t always have to look directly into the camera to look like you’re looking at it. (you can catch him taking quick glances in his videos as well, also not staring at the camera the entire time either)
@@sebskelly Thank you! While staying home during the pandemic, I'm starting to record myself and want to start multitracking like you do! Just yesterday I finished recording and editing Shostakovich's first prelude and fugue on flugelhorn and euphonium, and I still need to record the visual part. Your video has been very helpful!
"Brass players don't like sharps."
Truer words have never been spoken 😂
Flats 4 life
Play a couple Broadway shows and you'll get over that in a real hurry.
I like sharps ... ? Wait, does horn count as a 'brass' instrument? LOL
Amen to that!
I like all the keys (-_-) :D
"The horn is really hard to control and out of tune"
Finally someone gets the pain
Thank you
Can you do a video explaining how you made this video?

That's to meta

Haha cheers, glad to hear it! I do enjoy it quite a bit which helps a lot, but yeah, it definitely takes up a fair bit of my time ;)
You are the coolest arranger! Keep it up!

Nice one! I'm a big fan of Enlightenment, that's a great album too!
So much work and very appreciated. Kudos matey.
Mellophone YEA YEA YEA!

It is a flugelhorn instead of a tuba. He brings the audio down 2 octaves with the audio software.
This must take you forever! How do you have the time to do all of these arrangements?!

What trumpet mouthpiece do you use? I love your sound.

Yeah man, they sound awesome! Keep it up :) Haha I'll look out for that then
I dare you to watch this video in a darkened room.
how do you stay in time without the metronome? or do you edit out the sound?
The videos are all mimed, so I just film whilst playing along to the recording :)
Hey what brand is your soprano trombone?
It's a Jupiter :)
Are you playing the recording on Logic as you record the video and using it to sync to the clean recording from Logic in Final Cut Pro?
Indeed!
@@sebskelly thanks---what DAW are using?---well done as always
How do you make the sheet music? What software?
I use Sibelius for the sheet music!
How do you read the sheet music and look like you’re looking at the camera at the same time?
I believe he records a second time again, looking at the GoPro.
@@TheLonePenguin Does that mean he memorizes every part?

Nailed it! I've got an ipad just behind to my left with the dots on. Sometimes you might glimpse me sneaking in a page turn 😏

So there's transcription software in logic?
he uses sibelius, but logic does have some form of sheet music thing I think
Do not watch if you have epilepsy.
WhO dIsLiKeD tHiS vIdEo???
So you’re a native trumpet player? Cause who reads Bb bass. That’s a bit weird.
It isn't in European countries. I do too.
Freek Verheul everyone I know reads concert pitch bass when playing tuba, trombone, or euphonium
@@GrimesMusic where I live (Netherlands) it's common that you read euphonium in concert pitch but bass tuba in Bb bass
Epilepsy warning?
Omg you mime. This is worse than finding out Britney mimed 😰😰
