I personally have Orascoptic loupes with 3x magnification. Most dentists I know use 2.5x-3.0x magnification, but there are higher magnifications available (which have certain pros/cons to them). They're a good tool to use, with many upsides and some downsides. You should try some out at any dental convention and speak with the reps there!
