Hi Chase. I've got a pre-configured image that I installed which included a theme and roms. The games are all set up to work with an arcade style joystick and 6 buttons so I can't get my SNES style controllers to work with any game. Is this what I would do to reset that? Also, that is a very cool theme with the comic book. Where can you find that one? THanks James
@RetroPie Guy Thank you for sharing this video. I have followed this perfectly and everything seemed to go well. But the original problem I was trying to solve for still exists. The issue is that BEFORE resetting the controller input config, I have a single joystick 9 button (6 buttons BARYXL, 3 buttons Start Select & Hot). I also had an Xbox 360 wired controller that I originally used to setup my retropie and games. Since that time I have tried to lose the controller and go arcade joystick and buttons only. When I disconnected the Xbox controller, the Joystick works, but I could not add credits via Select and unable to use the Start button as well (Which forces me to plug the controller back in and suddenly those work, but only on the Xbox controller itself) Here is where it gets confusing (CONFUSING PART 1), once I do plug in the Xbox controller to back out of the game (via Hot & Start)... I can then enter right back into the game using the Dragon Joystick and Arcade buttons and have them work. If I reboot or restart and the controller is left in the USB slot... the Joystick and arcade buttons will still continue to work. If I unplug the xbox controller, the Joystick and arcade buttons become affected again. How can I fix this? I figured your tutorial would work as it should no longer favor any one controller. But AFTER Exactly following your tutorial (CONFUSING PART 2) the Xbox controller can be plugged in to help save the day and back out of the game I am stuck in. Also of note, I reset the input config and ONLY set up the joystick and arcade buttons upon reboot... with no keyboard, mouse, or xbox controller plugged into the RPI4... so I am confused by the fact that the xbox controller seems to still work exactly as before as if the xbox controller config was never reset or erased. Please help me. I have researched a lot and it seems the lions share of the info is about getting a console controller working, not seeing a lot about having the xbox controller dominate or trump the joystick. Extra info: My build is what is called an AdventurePi using RPI4, a waterproof case and a single joystick and 9 buttons. I don't want to rely on any controller outside of the joystick and arcade buttons Thank you for reading
Hey there! That's extremely strange to me. Usually I run into the opposite issue. I'm unable to get a 3rd controller (I have an arcade setup with 2 sets of joystick/buttons) working most of the time because the system picks up the two arcade controls first. I end up having to unplug them to get the controller working at all in games. I've never seen an issue like the one you've described so I really have no idea what's happening there. Your input configs should be wiped out completely when following this process therefore the Xbox controller shouldn't be able to control anything at all until you map it. Something is going wrong with your setup for that mapping to stay programmed. Unfortunately locating where the issue is is next to impossible. I'm completely stumped and it takes a lot to stump me with retropie. If I can think of any ideas I'll let you know for sure. The adventure pi is a super cool project i made one myself a while back but it wasn't as well polished as I would have hoped but that was my doing.
I have a question. I have a retropie handheld. The SD card that came with it is not in English, so I bought a SD card with everything in English. When I put the new card in It boots up just like original and the games play fine except the dpad and buttons seem disabled. I have to plug in my USB controller to play, and that defeats the handheld point. When I put the old SD card back in it plays fine using the portable dpad and buttons. So, how to map so when the new SD card is in I can play using the buttons and dpad on the portable?
Hey not sure exactly what handheld you have but the mapping process should be very similar to this in the video below. th-cam.com/video/ejK3dCoJDZI/w-d-xo.html
I have a MAME/retropie/raspberry pi cabinet. All was working fine and then I somehow lost the SELECT (coin) input. Strange thing is that the SEL button works fine (can be mapped and it also takes you into the screensaver) but once you choose a game, there is no way it counts the COIN and you get stucked. No way back and it won`t get into the game selected. I checked the controller in windows (all buttons operative) and I also did the clear/reset input configuration. Stranger still... I tried an old controller from a different manufacturer and that one works fine. Any suggestions?. 😭
I deleted my "pause" key on PPSSPP along with all my keyboard inputs when I was remapping my controller. Now I can't get into my menu to quit out of games, not even with a keyboard. What should I do? I tried this, but I guess this is only for the main menu controls.
I have xbox wired controllers that get configured automatically and work fine on start up but when i try to use a wireless xbox controller or wired logitech controller they let me configure and move around the home screen but when i select a game they become unresponsive or when i exit the game become unresponsive why is the system remembering my wired xbox controller but not the other two? Please help
I have a question about control settings I did not set up. I figured out a few handy settings like the save state and such and another that is not so great. I have a SNES controller set up and when I press the select and B at the same time, it resets the game. I did not set that up and can not figure out how to turn that function off. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks
I'll have to check that out. Sometimes you get functions like that when hitting buttons together like that. Is that a combination of buttons you need to hit together for any games? I'm not sure that it can be changed and if it can be it would likely require moving around other controls so it would just go to another configuration it wouldn't be fully eliminated. Is that happening in all games or just certain collections?
@@OfficialChaseBrogan it is not a combination needed for the game, but too easy to enter during game play as both select and B is used quickly in sequence and if the timing is too close it will reset the game (not the system) and for work for all games in the SNES file. Thank you
My wii u controller works just fine in retropi but... Just can't get back to the main screen and have to hard turn off every time i like to switch a game.. How the hell can i set up config the bottoma for the menu??
Mapping buttons here, they work in emulation station, but not all buttons will work in game play. Like on NES I am missing the B button even tho, it's configured.
Weird. What controller are you using? Could be a faulty controller. You can try going into retroarch and mapping in there but you'll need another controller or mapped keyboard to access retroarch as you don't have enough buttons on a NES controller to get into retroarch (hot key + x button)
Did you get a solution please Jason. Defender game only recognising the joystick? And another game, 1942, only 1 button is working (loop), when there should be 2(fire) ?
@@OfficialChaseBrogan I got it to work, but I don't know how. I followed your tutorial (nice and brief!). It seems to work depending on which controller gets switched on first while Retropie is loading. Always, the first controller switched on connects. The second one doesn't. Player one controller should be switched on first, or is it Player 2 controller first? I'm still troubleshooting. I hate that it doesn't just stay configured.
@@stephenworldwide everything should stay configured after you do the input config reset snd remap everything. If it’s still not working right then you likely have something wrong with your image. Something is corrupt because your controllers should all work after the initial setup and mapping.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan It used to be like that. When I go through the steps, it only asks to reconfigure one of the controllers. Either the other controller connects or doesn't. I wish there was a service tech or shop I could fix the issues at. I have multiple problems with this thing. Feels like you need to be a hacker to get it to work right and fix all the bugs. The guy I bought the Retropie image and roms card from, he responded with instructions to connect it to my computer but I was never able to accomplish that.
@@stephenworldwide I would see if the person you got it from could replace it for you. It shouldn’t be that complex or problematic. I have come across issues like that before. Not the issues you’re describing specifically but other issues and it usually stems for a partial corruption. You can’t pull your hair out trying to solve the issues and if it is in fact a partial corruption no matter what you do it will never work right. It’s best to just start over with a fresh image. This isnt working no matter how many times i try..its still reading another pad that i no longer have. I used a wired pad and it works on arcade as a third player but not on 2 player console games

Extremely helpful, couldn’t find this out anywhere else thanks!
This helped me when transferring my pie zero to another retroflag gpi case, Thanks!

Nope, how about without a keyboard
You’d need a keyboard if you can’t use your controllers
You told me to not back out after you told me to back out dude no its not helpful I am stuck bigtime now lol
