Your slack-jawed expression exactly mirrored mine the first time I heard this cover. This is still one of my favorite arrangements of theirs -- so powerful.
Still one of the best arrangements and videos they ever made, and I will die on that hill. 😄 Yes, both Layne and J play the violin, though J None said in an interview he did with Qofy just the other day that Layne is a much better player than him and he was really rusty when they shot this video, so that’s why you only see him do it for a few seconds. 😂 (Btw, that interview is great and two hours long!) Also, this was about the time that Geoff was really starting to work on and incorporate more subharmonics into their music, so that E1 sub was extra surprising for everyone at the time!
Thanks for mentioning the interview with coffee, IA haven’t seen it. But I’ll be checking it out. It amazes me just how talented each and everyone of those guys are.
A lot of people like to point out that since Layne was playing the violin, it technically wasn’t acapella. My answer to that is Who cares? I’ll listen to him play any time he chooses. This definitely wouldn’t have been so epic without it.
1) I’m proud of you for being able to pick your jaw up from off the floor 2) J-None and Lane were having dueling violins from the beginning of the song, you can go back and check it if you don’t believe me 3) it’s been a while since I’ve seen this video, so I too was taken aback by Geoff’s bass note there
YAAAAAS you're doing Warriors I am HAPPY ABOUT THIS. Edit: _this is everything I could have hoped for_ . I think I saw your soul leave your body at one point, which is the hallmark of a truly excellent VoicePlay performance.
They have done so many epic things since earl left. But... This is the best and most epic earl song. It's on my top 3 of all time. I have to listen to it every day
Oh, my aching belly! Your face! Your. Face. Is. Priceless! Here you thought VP couldn't surprise you and.... 💥.... A violin sounding with Layne playing exquisitely!! LOL 😂 what a song for right now! And for then! Too bad we were all so panicked by big, bad covi. So many fallen warriors on that battlefield....here we are/ don't turn back now!/ WE built this town from dust!
I am so happy you got to this one. It’s one of my favorite arrangements/videos. I love the addition of the violin to the mix. We all keep hoping Layne will bring the violin back one of these days. But watching your expressions throughout the video made it that much better. Another one you should check out is the Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. Keep the videos coming! 😊💜
I love this - it is so powerful. Thanks for returning to us to share your enthusiasm. Have you seen the other Imagine Dragons cover they did, also associated with League of Legends? It is Enemy which is the theme song to the Netflix show Arcane based on the video game. I’m not a gamer - I had no clue what Imagine Dragons did other than recognizing the name. But VoicePlay worked its magic - I’m a big fan now. You also have not seen Dragonborn comes/Skyrim. It left What It Do Dave alternately speechless and babbling, no middle ground. Highly recommend both of those.
Yay, one of my top videos of VP. Epic looking, epic sounding and with Layne playing violin beautifully, this is a really vibrant rendition. Love your expressions, you do make me giggle! Great reaction, thank you! 😁👍💜
They both play violin and J. None plays several other instruments. I'm not sure you can do an Imagine Dragons cover without adding some kind of string instrument, it just would not sound like the right song. Its one of the things that makes Imagine Dragons so freaking awesome!
OH! So glad I caught this one right away! (10 mins in, lol). Love all your VP reactions (and more) but honestly, I think this reaction is second favorite only to your reaction to Hoist the Colours. EPIC is the most awesome word for this and your reaction!
I think I'm rightin saying that Layne has played since age 4. He is clearly an accomplished violinist. I can really appreaciate his skill as my father also played the violin. J.None also plays and Geoff plays keyboards, as we see in Blackbird, Shenandoah, High and Dry. and Earl I believe played trumpet but don't quote me on that. I know Geoff has said that being a musician is certainly a help with understanding music. I can't remember whether I've read or heard about Eli playing but in Patreon chats he has instruments in the background. I love your reactions. You're such fun. :) And yes I love this one, though for total immersion I would always say Hoist The Colours.
This is one of my favorites too. Gorgeous harmonies, and getting to see J.None and Layne show off their mad violin skills. I’m glad you checked this out!
My first experience of Voiceplay and very different from the simpler presentations of Pentatonix and Homefree. Proximity to Disney World started out Geoff in particular on the theatrical presentation route. The acapella folks all have instruments in their background you just rarely see them playing because of the genre unless you listen to their solo work. Good introduction for you.
I just got a set of headphones - the percussion is like a heartbeat. How COOL! My brother's birthday is Aug 5th as well. He's now retired as a full Colonel in the US Air Force.
I really enjoyed this one from voiceplay, it's at the top of the list thanks for reacting to it. I really enjoyed your reaction to this, you were so taken in and the violin was great.
YES!!! This was my second favorite song of theirs, absolutely love it. So glad you enjoyed it. Layne on the violin... makes ya swoon. Well, me anyway. :)
My favorite part of watching any of your videos are watching you lose…your…mind! And it’s such a bonus when I can already sense it coming, because let’s face it, I did the same thing! Fantastic as always!!
I obsessed on this for months after it was released. I still love it, but it's finally not a several-times-a-day fix. #violayne emerged and was my favorite hashtag EVER. Before this? Oh, I liked Layne a lot. But once this hit I had to track his talent carefully, because he is far more brilliantly talented man than I'd realized. His creativity and nuance is just off the charts. But you know that. (btw, He played violin for 14 years). Now. Remember Dream On. VP saw the story of Dream On as the sequel to this. A couple years later, lost a couple of comrades, picked up a couple of new ones, still out there. Make sense? Of course, now you're going to have to watch Dream On again, and that's the stuff rabbit holes are made of... enjoy.
Amazing performance. There are so many similarities that I wonder if this is in direct response to the Pentatonix cover of "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, featuring the violinist Lindsey Stirling and Kevin playing his cello. Last night I discovered a new to me Acapella group called Maytree that are blowing up on TH-cam. Their cover of "Running Up That Hill" they released 3 weeks ago has over 6M views.
Was just checking the few comments to see if anyone pointed out how Layne was very much seemed to be channeling some K.O. In this by doing his beatboxing while playing the violin. I never made the connection between the PTX/Lindsey Sterling video though, interesting concept, I feel like it’s very possible.
You picked one of my top 5 VoicePlays songs. J None was plucking the violin after you first saw Layne playing. Layne was also responsible for beatboxing in this one too. Tell us how you really feel.
I'm getting to this about a year late, which means your birthday is coming up again- early happy birthday! I wish I'd known about the fundraiser last year- I absolutely would have contributed to it. I think that's such an amazing idea / concept board. What a wonderful thing to do for people! Once I finish with this comment, I'm going to check and see if by any chance the GoFundMe is still up and if it is I will contribute. Such an important thing!
You turning your head back to the screen after J. None sings “Don’t turn away” in that final chorus is everything!
Your slack-jawed expression exactly mirrored mine the first time I heard this cover. This is still one of my favorite arrangements of theirs -- so powerful.
This song and video is by far my favorite and so under appreciated
Still one of the best arrangements and videos they ever made, and I will die on that hill. 😄 Yes, both Layne and J play the violin, though J None said in an interview he did with Qofy just the other day that Layne is a much better player than him and he was really rusty when they shot this video, so that’s why you only see him do it for a few seconds. 😂 (Btw, that interview is great and two hours long!)

One of my favorites. Love Layne and J playing the violin, especially with Layne playing AND beatboxing! Just how??
1) I’m proud of you for being able to pick your jaw up from off the floor

This reminded me of Pentatonix playing Radioactive with Lindsey Sterling
Absolutely one of my favorites! Is there anything these boys can’t do?!?!
The violin was prominent in the original version. I loved that they added it to their version.
They have done so many epic things since earl left. But... This is the best and most epic earl song. It's on my top 3 of all time. I have to listen to it every day

This is one of my VP favorites! Amazing that both Layne and J None can play the violin that well.

Oh my gosh I really really hope he reacts to Boy Bands in 5 Minutes, he will so appreciate what they are doing in that video.
I love this - it is so powerful. Thanks for returning to us to share your enthusiasm.

It is BOTH JNone and Layne, but mainly Layne with the violin. And Layne beat-boxing at the same time.

I love this one - and it looks like you had an out of body experience
OH! So glad I caught this one right away! (10 mins in, lol). Love all your VP reactions (and more) but honestly, I think this reaction is second favorite only to your reaction to Hoist the Colours. EPIC is the most awesome word for this and your reaction!
That expression at 5:50 lol
It's OK, I'm pretty sure I made the same expression 😂
Thanks for introducing me to this group.
IMO, their best over all.
I think I'm rightin saying that Layne has played since age 4. He is clearly an accomplished violinist. I can really appreaciate his skill as my father also played the violin. Omg that was fantastic!! That violin was smokin!! And your expressions were over the top lol..thank you, Nick!!
This is one of my favorites too. Gorgeous harmonies, and getting to see J.None and Layne show off their mad violin skills. I’m glad you checked this out!
Definitely one of my all time favorites from them. It is my favorite pre-Cesar.
I love your dreams. You have such a good heart ❤️❤️
Layne was beat boxing while playing the violin!! Like I can’t even walk and talk at the same time and he is out here doing that 😮
I had a feeling this one would blow you away! In a good way of course😅
I love this version and the violin is just beautiful.
7:52 your brain melted at j-none’s voice run
I loved your facial expressions and speechlessness! This cover is one of my alltime favorites.
Great reaction!! I absolutely love this one.

Both Geoff and VoicePlay have dropped new ones. Geoff's is Wicked Game (Chris Issak) and VP's is Sleeping in the Cold Below (Warframe).
Such an amazing song. They do a great job of it. Love your reaction.
My favorite part of watching any of your videos are watching you lose…your…mind! And it’s such a bonus when I can already sense it coming, because let’s face it, I did the same thing! Fantastic as always!!

I think I literally watched your brain melt during that reaction!!! 😂😂😂 Epic reaction!!! ❤❤❤❤
For videos like this one you either need a malfunction label or mentally out of service label.
Love this cover from Voiceplay great saucey reaction g'day from Australia
This is my fav voiceplay xx
Your face says it all!! ❤ This is perfection! ❤

Also I just discovered Maytree recently too, via their squid games video on The Charismatic Voice video.

Fantastic ideas. Love them.
when I heard about teh Mariopol steel plant fighters , I thought of this song.
THIS IS 💯 EPIC❗
And VP breaks another reacter…!!!
Maybe we could do gofundme campaign for Christmas and Nick's birthday every year to help some with his goals?
What? There's an instrument Layne can't mimic with his voice? I'm shocked!
Can you please do Mr. Blue Sky by Voiceplay? It's one of my favorites and no one ever does reactions to it!
Sorry, my bad ....Jay
