It’s a scary world we live in. Educators should not have to deal with this. You are an amazing teacher. These kids need you!!!! Keep going strong.

Canadian teacher here. Its hard to fathom that this is the reality of what American students, teachers and parents have to deal with. The alarm alone was traumatizing! I just can’t imagine what the students and staff were going through. Just breaks my heart!!

Kyle, I’ve watched your channel since your started. And even though I’m retired now, as an old teacher, I feel your pain. Keep your chin up, dear heart. The kids need you.

This is the first time that I watched the police footage. This one hit home, I teach 4th graders and the 3 students that were killed are the same age as my students. You are right, we did not go into teaching to worry everyday if it is going to be our school next.

As a parent and as a teacher, it makes me furious that our politicians care more about guns than our children. They are doing nothing.

We have had guns in this country since it’s creation and never had school shooting, what has changed? It’s not the guns, it’s the people.

Thank you for sharing. I too feel like something needs to be done and protect our schools. Teachers and students should not have to go through something like this.

I’m a retired teacher (nearly one year, after 38 years in public education). I have to disagree, in a way, with your comment. We do not need to protect our schools, students, or teachers. We need to STOP people with guns!

i’m becoming an emt and tbh i’m scared to go on a call for school shooting. I grew up in the years where school shootings were so often, and it’s crazy how we’re so numb to this, i don’t want my kids to have to experience sitting in a dark room, or having to send a text home to mom or dad, crazy world we live in…

As I mentioned awhile back I'd love to sit down with you over lunch sometime on a weekend (what teacher has that luxury of time during the week-lol) and discuss issues like this that educators face. We'd have to figure out logistics -Im in NJ (12 miles west of NYC) and you're in Ohio. But as I tell my students where there's a will-there's a way. In the meantime try to stay positive and take one day at a time; praying also helps!!
    Btw- Happy Passover

Hey Kyle...I think we should go back to remote learning until the federal government creates an effective policy to address this crisis. It's obvious that local/state governments are not up to the challenge.

Kyle, I feel you. I'm in my fifth year teaching also. I teach 5th and 6th grade students with disabilities who have moderate to high support needs. I'm terrified of the "when." My kids aren't able to be quiet. Their disabilities prevent them. We will definitely be targeted when it happens and I know it's only a matter of time.

I’m a former 911 dispatcher going back to school to earn my degree in education. My husband is a military veteran and will be pursuing a career in law enforcement. It puts it in a different perspective that my husband could very well respond to the school where I teach and our children attend. It’s a very different perspective, especially from someone with a heavy background in situations like that.

Thank you for posting this, Kyle. When I started teaching back in 1992, we had only fire and earthquake drills. You did not have to think about armed people entering schools to hurt others. When will the politicians do something? They are not in the trenches to see how teachers are doing what they can to make school environments safe and welcoming for students. They are not there to see how even teachers have to deal with secondary trauma. Continue your passion for speaking up for young and veteran teachers, Kyle. Take care.

Every time I see or hear about a school shooting, it does hit me deeply. However, I never thought about how it hits the school staff and teachers, the students, and the parents of students, even though it may or may not have happened at the school that some of the effected staff and faculty affected work/matriculate at, but, I'm sure it effects them more deeply, and personally than it effects anyone else, save for those that have been directly effected by incidents that have occurred in their schools. To make it more painful for the teachers, they are most likely the ones that have to explain to their students at their schools what happened at a school that they don't go to, or have gone to the same school as it happened at. I sympathize with all the teachers that have to experience those scenarios of a majorly traumatic experience. It's stripping away the students innocence, and their sense of safety and security when they now know that something could happen tomorrow that can seriously injure, or worse, kill them, at any given minute or day. Just having to do lockdown drills must be traumatizing to the younger children, or even the young adult students, and the faculty and staff. I'm sorry you're having to go through this. Judging by the way you came across in this video, it's more than obvious that you truly care about, not only your students, but pretty much all students at all schools worldwide. Hopefully, that will be the last time you have to carry that heartache for many years to come. All my best wishes go with you.

Recent high school graduate (graduated in 12/2023, a semester early) and my senior year, there were gates put up. Teachers went around on golf carts. We had metal detectors. Safety practices so often. In February of 2024, it would make it the third year that 30 students would have to go through A.S.H.E.R. training a multi-million dollar facility that six countries have had armed forces trained in. ASHER stands for Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response training. The teachers don’t get that training. Only 30 students per year get it, out of a total of 1500 students. We only put Stop the Bleed kits last year.
After Parkland, then Nashville, then Dadeville (I live in the very bottom of Alabama, so Nashville and Dadeville set the standards for us) we had to put in protections.
Our students get in fights often. I remember sophomore year, second semester, these kids stabbed each other and we went on lockdown for it.
I don’t know what happened to when I was little, but I miss it.
I really love being born in ‘05 but god I want the safety back.

As a 17 year old high school student, it frustrates me that there are people out there who care more about guns than our lives. It enrages me that those people are the ones running our government.
