    One thing to add to you puller kit . Is if now the internal diameter of the pipe on a regular ones . Either get a machine shop to make plug to fit the interior dia with a shoulder to but up against and have the center drill a blind hole so the puller rod will center up on it . But another diy is find a short bolt that thread will fit and center drill it in drill press . And keep a few made up to keep in a bag . Just thought from a machinist now HVAC . I just like to make tools to help people out

    4:00 dumb question, but why would it matter if it comes loose? Wouldn’t it just become a plain bearing at that point? Or would it cause too much play for the application?

    • @thunderbirdizations
      @thunderbirdizations 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m using a pillow bearing right now to fix a massive amount of play from my shaft, but my shaft is allowed to have some play so the set screws and extra ball bearings are a bit overkill for me

    You make it look easy. I'm out at my mother-in-law's because the guy she usually has turn her unit on for the year hasn't been oiling the bearings. Now I'm stuck trying to pull them off and they're seized to the shaft. Used the puller after liberally soaking in penetrating oil and the bearings separated from the rest of the rubber set. Now I have to figure out how to pull them off or just cut them off the shaft.

      Of course he did, especially since he left out the part of literally removing & reinstalling the pillow block.

    Did you have to prop up the blower shaft?. Lift up to start the bearing?

    Hey man, how do you diag a bad bearing? Like what do you look for to know it’s bad or going bad.

      Sound is one way, like a grinding sound or up and down or side to side play.

    I have a fan shaft going into two bearings / pillow blocks. One of the bearings (closest to the fan) is wobbling inside the pillow block. I have no idea how to adjust things to make this stop. Ideas?

    Can you let the shaft rest on the beam when you remove the bearing without damaging the other bearing on the other side?

    • @HVACKnowItAll
      @HVACKnowItAll  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the bearing is an insert that has play to move within the housing!

    Lol I usually keep a block of wood. Never thought of using a wrench in there. That’s pretty cool.
    Been fighting a bearing on a big ass exhaust fan.
    I need to borrow a two jaw puller. I tried a 3 jaw and it is difficult to get it in there nice.

    I like the idea of using a Gear puller. Myself I like to get the job done quick and I always cut them off. But if your in a data center I could see pulling them off that way so you Won't set off the fire suppression(Liebert)

    • @HVACKnowItAll
      @HVACKnowItAll  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fire suppression was bypassed and I've cut them off in the past with a torch. Looking to get accut tool or angle grinder for these in the future.

      A 10 dollar straight edge from Home Depot or a piece of thick long string all you need. You plan on spending 1k on a actual alignment laser tool??

    • @Abuhummus
      @Abuhummus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aaron Arias not I, but if the company is willing to buy it I’m willing to use it as I am using the straight edge technique now. 👍

    • @krislink1761
      @krislink1761 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hvacslayer2929 don't get me wrong, I use straight edges as well, but they aren't always ideal. I work with large drives in less than ideal locations. Laser alignment makes life better. Especially when you have an 8ft span. Can't say I'd use string to align a high speed drive system, but if you were comfortable with it, then go for it. In theory if done correctly and I'm sure you're competent enough, it would work in a pinch

      They got two and three jaw pullers.
      They work on bearings. Shivs and pulleys. An excellent tool to have. Trust me. I like jaw pullers myself.
      There’s several types of pullers. But jaw style work the best in my experience.
      As I learned for years. Just get the puller. It will make your life so much easier.
      I’ve done a pull without the right tools and trust me you’ll be there all day. Especially if it’s rusty.

    • @HVACKnowItAll
      @HVACKnowItAll  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The puller was not in thr best shape and it had to be constantly adjusted. Besides that the bearing slide off no problem and the new one slide on no problem. It's all about shaft prep and finding something to plug thd hole on the shaft.

    • @HVACKnowItAll
      @HVACKnowItAll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's common on these Lieberts for the bearing at the motor to become defective. It's never an issue to change that one. Done a bunch like this.
