love the Dutch touch 😀. Thanks for using our language in a positive way 😛. If you ever want something translated to dutch(like a player handout or something) let me know 😀🤜.
☕ Wow, Kelothac is basically Avatar! And oh but I wanna Baradun to be High Sorcerer... And his best friend as The Other High Sorcerer! Also I'm really proud of Bodger, he is so diplomatic here - such a long way from the beginning where he just said all things that weren't needed!💝
Alright can we please have a standing applause for the poor man making the subtitles? I thought Rob was bad but the damn champ even did the names for Bobs made up ones.
Maat being the ancient egyptian concept of justice, truth, balance and order (and more as it cannot be translated as only one) being picked up here as the Giant Concept of abiding by their culture and nature is a very cool implementation - love it! :D
As someone who speaks Standard Chinese, it was so cute when Rob called the characters ‘Mandarin Symbols’. ❤ Just to help, they are called Chinese Characters, and can be used for all forms of Chinese. Mandarin just refers to a collection of spoken forms of Chinese used from across the southwest to the Northeast of China, the most commonly known of which is called Standard Chinese in English. :)
@ That is a bit more complex to answer. On the first part, many forms of Chinese do have romanised scripts based on the Latin alphabet. For standard Chinese, the most widely used of these is called pinyin which roughly translates as ‘to spell with sounds’. But these are mostly used for teaching pronunciation and computer inputting as opposed to actual communication. On the second bit, the short answer is they can include both meaning and pronunciation, but they may not. The reason for this is that each individual character can be made up of up to three components, each of which provides a different piece of information. The first indicates meaning; the second indicates pronunciation; and the final one does not indicate anything specifically, but may help differentiate a character from other similar characters. However, first, individual characters may not include all three components, and secondly, many individual characters are used in compound words which may change their meaning or pronunciation.
Ahh man… great episode guys! One criticism though.. We’re definitely going to need more Djeoph and Uwu Dragons. That’s really what the people are here for.
when I DM'ed in my discord, my nephew would have his screen shared for our audio to play (often on loop) while we were playing. I'd share my screen of Macromedia Flash, for the maps and characters/board and the immersion was amazing. there's so many tracks to use. from wilderness, beach, open waters, taverns to anything misc and in between. With that said, I wish Viva would have a sound guy for that. That way the players could hear and get a better feel. Immersion!!!
Interesting point about 'maat', and the inspiration for the giants accent being Dutch, is that "maat" is the dutch word for "mate"; so there's a small crossover in positive connotation. Nice touch, especially if it was intentional. (vriend / vrienden = friend / friends; the distinction between friend and mate is identical to how it is in English).
1:35 Rob, I'm surprised at you! You know that water under extreme pressure would have squished them like bugs! Back to studying the properties of water at depths...
But, a teleport displacing matter should also cause something bigger than a pop of air. If that doesn't happen, then the physics of pressures in this world (canonically a video game world), are not our own...
I still don't understand. If storm giants can see the future why they haven't done anything when Laethil decided to become high sorcerer and strike Kelothac? Thay could warned him at least... Noone actually asked this question, but it is still interesting.
Rob mentions that the storm giants only began taking an interest in mortal affairs when it began to affect them. Sure, Kelothac managed to impress them, but they wouldn’t have bothered to scry his future until he became a threat. I assume they regarded divination as too costly to waste on a mere elf.
I feel like Rob is both happy the players are actually taking notes now, but also a little annoyed he has to pause every few sentences so the players can take notes.
I’m so excited to see how bodger manages to con a giant into giving him a body part this time 😂
Persuasion roll? And GUIDANCE!
Is ,"hit them in the face until they give me what I want" really a "con"?
Perhaps this time he'll ask for a nipple
