    Roskopp's street skate style was really cool to see for people over six foot. Little guys seemed to be able to pull off some tricks better than big guys, and he (Santa Cruz vids and what not) showed me what was actually possible for my body. I'm 41 now, so I just cruise and carve in a Stacey Peralta, Spirit of 76 style.

    I still have my original Robb Roskopp board from the 80’s

    Awesome, I remember seeing you in Wheels of Fire and a couple other sk8 vids from the 80s. You and Rob must have been bros, I also remembering seeing y'all in a few ads together in Thrasher magazine. The 80s skate era is like a special, magical time when I think back on it even though I was only in middle school. So glad I got to experience that golden era.

    I was 11 years old when I got my first pro deck the summer of '87, it was the Roskopp 4 (target with monster/robot). I was a Roskopp fanboy for the next few years, owned two more of his boards. Then H-Street came along and I got over my boyhood man crush.

    You're a lifetimer in this shit. Thank you for the memories. For the longest time, I used to call you Rob Robscott. I was 9 in '86 and would drool when I saw a Roskopp deck. Never got one. They were sold out.

    Very cool, thanks for doing this interview and for posting. Always liked Rob. Had one of his boards back in the mid 80s, and have a few I've collected since then. Always liked his attitude and take on things. Glad he's still living the life. Much respect.

    It’s a little irritating to here people commenting about Rob being an average skater. These are people who obviously had a loose interest in skating at best. Rob didn’t place in the Top 5 of competitions all that often, but he was signed by NHS because he was a consistently good skater who could be trusted to perform solidly in competitions and put on a good show. He did all of his skating at high speed and did everything on a scale that most skaters weren’t capable of. Sure, he wasn’t technically brilliant, but he skated hard and fast and smoothly. He was a joy to watch and it annoys me when people try to downgrade his pro skating career.

      I totally agree with you. Loads of power but loads of style also on street, pools, vert and downhill.

      IMO he was an average pro as far as tricks went but he had good style and I like style over tech. Without question he's one of the biggest icons from the 80s skateboard era especially due to his board graphics and magazine ads.

    i always thought of roskopp as definitely pretty fucking good, always holding shit down in the contest with the big three at any given contest, hosoi gator and hawk. he always looked a little more buff than the other dudes in those days

    I went from skating to mtn biking around 95…now I rode a Santa Cruz mtn bike and I always wondered if there was a relation to the Santa Cruz skateboard…turns out there is…nice work Roskopp…I rode your board for a little bit until I snapped it back in the 80’s then I picked up an Alva Fred Smith…that board ripped huge tail

    Rob seems like a really nice guy. I’m not sure why there seemed to be some animosity towards him from some of the other pros. Maybe because he is kind of a soft spoken guy?
    I’m 52 and rode Santa Cruz decks all my life. My first SC deck was a Duane Peters in 1981/2 or so. When I finally wore that one out I got a R/S 10” spiral around 1985 or so. I loved that deck. It was between that and a Roskopp, and I liked the R/S shape better. I had a couple of others over the years.
    My favorite deck graphic of all time is the SC Steve Olson checker with the red SC logo. Simple and bold. Plus Steve is one of the all time best skaters ever.

    Jim Phillips graphics are what sold most Santa Cruz skateboards in the mid-late 80's. Jim Phillips artwork is iconic. I do agree with you... if you watch old Streets of Fire videos, etc... guys like Natas were the focus. Roskopp was a good downhill bomber though, I will give him that for sure.

      He toured with jeff kendall but was injured when i got a poster signed by them. He was a pro. Tiny wheels and scratch your 88 graphics off isn't cool. Generations of flys inherit an earth when freaks cannibalize each other going backwards.

      @@sk8anddestroy792 I met him and Kendall in a mall. Now the skaters kill kids. Samuel was dj tron the world's best gabber dj and the best I ever heard. Not the goat symbol of thrasher mag now. I will say the Santa Cruz bike is the best. Dumb blonde skaters not surfers and legit millionaires now.

    True, Roskopp was fairly smooth but was never all that great of a skater for a pro. It was his board graphics that made him so popular. As a kid I was definitely a Roskopp fanboy, mostly due to his board graphics. I owned 3 Roskopps (4, face, 5).

  • @Lavern4101
    @Lavern4101 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I dont think Roskopp even had a part in Streets of Fire. You must be thinking of Wheels of Fire. But yeah, Roskopp was smooth for a big guy but wasn't on the same level with Natas, Hosoi etc.

      When he retired in 1990 street skating was taking over and vert skating was starting to die out. Roskopp was mainly a transition skater so I guess he saw the writing on the wall. Plus he was in his mid 20s when he retired and back then that was considered 'old' for a pro.

    A legend?his board graphics...yes,his skating....hardly!!This dude had to have made the most money off selling boards with the least amount of coverage.If it weren't for Jim Phillips this guy would be a nobody

    • @chrisrichards430
      @chrisrichards430 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No way. Jeff kendall and him toured Indiana. He was injured. But you can like show us video of higher airs in a pool or halfpipe or ollies on a 90s deck? This is the reason pukes like you get a job in any industry then you shit on millionaires or creators while you sniff glue.
