    I'm a hair designer in Las Vegas and ppl ask me all the time how I afford my luxury handbags. I think its rude when ppl ask and they all think I'm spoiled.. I work hard for all of my things. I'm an envelope saver. I label an envelope with the name of the item I'm working towards.. I usually add up how much per day I need to put in it to have the bag by a special day or holiday.. birthday or Christmas.. then I just put the extra $40 a day or whatever amount it is in there. I'm pretty blessed to be able to make cash daily to do this. Sometimes I have an extra good day and I'll throw an extra $100 in it. I hate when ppl say I'm spoiled because it takes willpower to save money. I don't think ppl should judge .. it's all about what's important to you:)

      Ugh, tell me about it. I worked parttime in college to help pay for school (I was fortunate to be a nanny which paid WELL) and what money I had left over after helping pay my tuition and food/books I decided to treat myself to a briefcase. It was about $700 from Coach. Nothing super high end, just all leather and classic, b/c I was in school for business. I knew I would enter the corporate world and wanted a nice briefcase or two to carry to work. The looks I get sometimes, people just ASSUME my rich parents mustive bought me these items. How would a 23 y/o analyst fresh out of college afford that? Or worse, they think I'm irresponsible and spend my paycheck on frivolities and don't contribute to my 401k or savings. annoying.

      @AutumnBeckman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Honii, that's such a great idea for saving up for a bag, especially in your situation where you get paid daily. It does take a lot of willpower, for sure. Congratulations to you for being able to do it!

    • @AutumnBeckman
      @AutumnBeckman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      galemoy, that's something that still sometimes concerns me in real life...that people I know will think my bags are a frivolous expense. In a sense, they are, but so many people make assumptions about people who carry/wear/drive designer items without taking time to understand the reasons people enjoy these things. The reality and the assumptions don't often align.

      Honii Buonsante and taxes too, don't forget an envelope for taxes! Lol Great system. And I think it's great if you want to share your system but totally agree it's rude when ppl ask how you afford all your items! That's your business and I would tell them that!

    Another way to save is a tip I learned from my daughter. It's called "don't spend the 5's." Every time I get a $5.00 bill back in change, I put it in a special place. You never miss it and you will be floored how fast they add up.💲

    I never had LV in the past. I was always a Coach person because I was always thrifty. I an a Registered nurse for 30 years and been always wise on my spending habits. Until recently when a friend of mine ran away from an abusive husband. She have her 2 boys with her and starting to live independently from him. She sold her Belmont and Neverful to me in June and last week. She needed the money to start her life. The money from the bags help her to buy her car and down payment for her apartment. I did some overtime so I can buy her purses. Now I find myself looking at purses in Real Real, Tradesy and Poshmark. Now I'm hook.

    A few years ago I broke down how much me and my boyfriend were spending on eating out (entress, apps, a glass or two of wine) then I figured out the same meals at home (including a nice bottle of wine) The difference was staggering. My current boyfriend and I eat out now maybe once a week and it is more of a treat. Plus, you can know what is going into your food. Great tips throughout this whole video love.

    Its So crazy. When I was in middle school (Circa 2007) I remember my sister going into LV and being a small neverfull and I want to say it was like 700 bucks IN THE STORE. Speedy 25 was around the same price, maybe 50 bucks more. Now they both retail for over 1000. These yearly price increases REALLY add up, haha.
    Also, Queen, Just know that we REALLY appreciate you talking about prices. Its SO HELPFUL to those of us who are new to the preloved market. I know it makes you uncomfortable, but absolutely no judgement from me!

    • @AutumnBeckman
      @AutumnBeckman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree about the prices. The most frustrating thing about that for me is when you're trying to save or budget for an item and it suddenly goes up or if you know it will go up so you feel like you have to buy it now rather than taking a longer time to save. At least the last LV increase wasn't that much. Chanel on the other hand...

    Thank you for this video. I know many people consider it rude to ask about or talk about finances, and I wish it wasn't so, because I love talking about finances. I think our society actually suffers because there's so much secrecy over finances. I'm a budgeter (YNAB and this particular one really helps with the issue you mentioned about spending little bits here and there) and so really appreciate the magic of a budget. Instead of a 'it's none of your business' reply to 'how do you afford that', I appreciate that you gave an 'I budget' answer. Every dollar you don't spend on Y, you can spend on X, but you can't have everything (unless you're wealthy), and budgets really clarify your priorities. Yours are your bags, and I'm glad you get to enjoy them and share them with us.

    Hi Autumn, I really enjoyed this video! I'm a lot older than you & I am an accountant, so I already do a lot of the things that you do. I agree with almost everything you do, except for paying rent. I understand that the maintenance of a home can be quite expensive, but you are actually paying for the mortgage, and maintenance, plus other costs of owning a home to your landlord. There is no better investment, except owning your own business, than real estate. If you don't want the expense of maintaining a home, a condominium might be a better choice, as the Association will repair and replace all of the exterior items like roofs, painting, plumbing, landscaping, etc., for a monthly maintenance fee. I could not afford to rent my home for the amount that I pay monthly for my mortgage and there are ways to accelerate paying off a mortgage a lot sooner without paying more monthly. As for property taxes, I look at that expense as payment for my children's education, as a lot of those taxes goes to the public schools. Like you, I rarely pay full price for anything and I never purchase brand new cars. I just started buying designer handbags, previously owned, but I don't consider them investments. Like you, I try to educate myself regarding current prices and I shop for the best quality that I can afford. Your videos have been a great resource for me in purchasing resale bags. Thank you for making this video.

      HOA fees go up and at times they will hit you with another fee for say water lines that burst, codos are not that great of a deal

    • @AutumnBeckman
      @AutumnBeckman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I hear you and agree that real estate is a great investment in many parts of the country but owning a home isn't right for us in Houston. In my experience, appraisals and taxes can vary wildly from year to year. Neighborhoods also change drastically over a few years and property values fluctuate due to that. The biggest issue in Houston, though, is flooding. We are notorious for flooding and everything is under construction so we never know what will flood next (Hurricane Harvey being a prime example ). It doesn't matter if you're in a poor neighborhood or a multi million dollar one, the flooding doesn't discriminate. In our 3rd floor apartment we have no worries. Everything we own is elevated, including our vehicles. If the roof leaks and needs to be repaired or replaced, the management company takes care of it. If the A/C unit needs to be replaced, the management company takes care of it. They do our landscaping, painting, electrical, plumbing, and even replace light bulbs and air filters. We don't have to pay HOA fees or deal with the micromanagement that often accompanies them and we have a gym, pool, conference room, and other amenities included in our rent. If the neighborhood goes downhill or we decide to relocate or our financial situation changes unexpectedly we can move without the hassle of selling a house. I definitely appreciate the information and I'm sure it's a fantastic option for many people, it's just not right for us.

    • @traceyhill9572
      @traceyhill9572 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I don't know anything about real estate in Texas, but it sounds like you do. We get some flooding here in Florida too, especially with hurricanes, but not like I've seen where you are. We have a lot of condo's on the Atlantic, and buildings have collapsed from flooding, damaging higher floors, and the insurance wouldn't pay, because they opted not to carry flood insurance. Regarding the comment above, yes you can get hit with special assessments for emergency repairs, normally roofs, and things like that are budgeted in reserves, or financed and added to the monthly maintenance fee. Regardless of whether you rent or own, we pay for it. I agree that HOA'S & COA's can have some people that are difficult to deal with, but you get that wherever you live. Just as you recommend with handbags, you have to know the market, & research the area before you purchase. I'm not criticizing anyone's choices, there are pro's & con's with everything, but I do believe that there is not many better investments than real estate. You are planning for your retirement & you spend your money carefully. Also, you don't have children to care for, so your lifestyle is a little different. Renting works for you & your lifestyle. Your videos have educated me regarding purchasing luxury items, especially the latest one, New vs Pre-owned. Thanks for making them.

      i had a friend who just moved back to alabama from the Houston area and he warned me when I was purchasing (in alabama) about the varying appraisals. Fortunately I am not in an area with those problems and our property taxes are very low in Alabama.
      When I was getting ready to purchase I got discouraged because saving up a down payment to help with a better loan payment was daunting (I got lucky with a first time homebuyer loan program.). Anyway, there were many times that I thought about how much my apartment rental got me that I now have to cover on my own with my house. I have so many small repairs needed at my house now that i could have easily called maintenance for at the old place. I have yet to call the two, maybe three different repairmen. Anyway, long story to say we do each have to decide where to put our finances and you sound like you watch out for the budget well. I am thrifty but I am not good at saving up for specific things. I like to buy things a lot rather than buy really high end things just a little. I prefer changing styles too much. Anyway, long rambling story to share. I have watched a few of your videos and found them quite interesting even though an expensive purse to me is one over 50 bucks! my girlfriends bought me a nice Patricia Nash leather purse for my 40th birthday. It is nowhere near luxury buy very nice compared to what I usually buy. I also do most of my shopping at Ross and TJ Maxx!

    I think you are spot on about how much $$ goes towards kids, mortgage, car payments, etc. In NY a nanny cost about $20/hr, if you need childcare for just 8hrs/day , that’s about $3200! That’s pretty much a handbag per month 😭😭😭

    Great advice and I agree. I previously volunteered for a local all cat shelter on a regular basis. I found I got more happiness spending time helping the cats than spending money on luxury. I wasn’t getting paid for time, but I also wasn’t spending money on things. I find little changes can add up big time. For example, I now spend about $60 every two months on Nespresso pods, but living in Seattle where coffee is a part of daily life I would easily spend that in a few weeks getting Starbucks daily.

    Very honest and open video! Thx. I think we all have to make financial decisions based on our lifestyles and what works best for us. For me, I prefer a nice luxury vehicle. So I do drive a Mercedes. For clothes, I do shop at the same places you shop. and I do eat out...alot LOL, but like you I do not have children. I also prefereed to be a home owner, so I bought a home. I am just now getting into luxury goods, but my collection is nowhere near yours. Most of my bags are on the lower end like Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Tory Burch etc., however I too am deliberate. My first LV was a Speedy 30. The next will be a neverfull. I don't want all LV just some key pieces.

    • @AutumnBeckman
      @AutumnBeckman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hope I didn't make it sound like I am against luxury vehicles. If I was wealthier I'd have one, for sure, but since my funds are limited I prefer a less pricey car for the reasons I mentioned. Yes, just as you're describing we all have different priorities based on our different lifestyles and it doesn't mean one person's priorities are more or less valid than someone else's. I wish more people realized that and weren't so judgmental.

    Good points! Especially, for just regular working folks. Sometimes if I’m shopping, I’ll put items in my cart and walk around the store with it and then decide if I really want/need it. I’ve been luxury shopping on a dime for decades. Other great sources are thrift stores and sites like Craigslist, Facebook Market Place, etc... not just for clothing and accessories, but also for high end luxury pieces for your home, etc. For example, I bought a Pottery Barn sectional that retails for over 12K for only $800. As for vehicles, you can get a very low mileage luxury vehicle for less than a regular vehicle. I bought a very low mileage BMW with all leather interior which costs over 50K for 17K+tax. The luxury vehicle goes with the luxury bags. You may want to consider it for your next auto purchase.
    BTW - I also have the same flowers you have in the background...from the HomeGoods Store (TJMaxx). 👍

    Excellent topic and advice! The only thing I would add that it’s really not easy to sell these items since there are so many scammers - it’s like swimming through shark infested waters. Also, you lose percentages to resellers, PayPal, and eBay and there are shipping and insurance costs when selling items. Unless one is able to get things on incredible sales or unless an item is a coveted item (which can change with fashion trends), it is not easy to make money consistently with reselling. For the most part, I’m lucky if I don’t lose hundreds of dollars and can sell my items without losing money. It’s very rare that I make a profit on a sale and if I do, it’s only about a hundred or just a little more. So, these items, in my opinion, are not ‘investments’ - there are better ways to invest and save money than luxury handbags. When I see incredible deals on resellers’ sites or on eBay, the first thing I think of is, ‘wow, someone is losing a lot of money at these prices particularly if they bought it new and probably even if they bought it used.’ I’d have to get these items at an incredible deal to break even or make money. Autumn, I have the exact mentality as you when trying not to spend money :-). You should see all the money I save by not buying everything I want! Hahahaha!

    I am so glad that you went to college and made your own way. I love that you treat yourself. I would say that it's your life you do you..however I wished you guys would reconsider buying a home. Maybe someday huh? :) It would be a great investment. Imagine the equity you could put into your house, versus paying rent. I was the first to graduate college in my immediate family. My husband and I paid our own way. We paid for our own wedding, we did it ourselves. I like to treat myself. I don't buy luxury handbag's but I do like to travel so we do that. Congratulations on enjoying your life.

    1000000% agree with this video because these are ways to save money for example I don’t spend a ton of money on clothes like shirts and small things bc they are easy to come buy and marshals and tjmaxx have amazing deals. And I def agree about the discount I have had things in my cart and will get an email with a discount then buy my cart, that’s how these places get you.

    Yes to the Japanese ebay! I've been hearing good stuff about them and finally pulled the trigger getting the LV Cabaret vernis bag for an amazing deal (and in great condition for a bag that's released in 2001). I never thought I'd be drawn to LV or own an LV bag, not until I saw a youtuber reviewed this less popular style and I kept coming back to it! decided to hunt it specifically from Japanese sellers and I'm very pleased with the quality! So happy that this style is the first LV bag I own!

      I sometimes go in to look at items if they're on display but if I know I won't be buying in the store then I (typically) won't ask to see an item because I don't want to waste the sales associate's time. TH-cam is my primary source for research. :)

    Hey Autumn, as usual I love your video. I have never been majorly into high end brands but since watching you I have decided to check out The Real Real site (UK) version and have found a couple of Tiffany pieces I like. One is a handbag and the other an agenda case which I am really wanting to buy. Have you ever thought about maybe doing a detailed video on shopping on this and similar sites? Like maybe a walk through, tips, how to spot bad quality or fake pics, things to look out for ect? If you have done this already do you reckon you could link me the video please? Much love - Becki 😀❤️

    • @AutumnBeckman
      @AutumnBeckman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't thought about doing that. I feel like I'd need to show screenshots of the websites as I navigate them and I don't know how. TRR has a very pretty Tiffany agenda cover that went up yesterday.

    • @beckilovesmex
      @beckilovesmex 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Autumn Beckman that makes sense, I’m not sure how to do that either. Maybe you’ve seen the one I found, it’s in the Tiffany Blue colour, sad though as although I went to the UK version of the site it says that it can only be shipped to the US and Canada. So I’m going to have to bypass that and maybe just go for the bag. The bag is final sale and non returnable which is a bit scary though. I wish when you choose your country they only show you what is available to you as I was so excited about it but now a bit sad lol. Thanks again for the awesome uploads, you always help me chill after a crappy day.

    I have a question and you might be able to answer it. Is there a photo history of Louis Vuitton bags somewhere? I purchased what I believe to be an authentic vintage Louis Vuitton at Goodwill for under $25. It was priced at $29.95 and with my 20% senior discount they took $6 off so I paid under $25 and there is no tax because they are a nonprofit.
    I am trying to find one like it to get an idea of how much it is worth. It meets all inspection points as authentic and was pre-date stamped. It looks like the "Monogram Pallas Wallet Cerise" from the front except the entire bag is Monogram and does not have any red on it. However, the back is different as it has an attached zipper closure wallet with card slots and it comes with the strap like a crossbody bag.
    I purchased it specifically to sell. I just need information about the bag so I know for certain that it is authentic and what price point is appropriate. Thank You so much in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

    • @AutumnBeckman
      @AutumnBeckman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations on your score! The closest thing I know of to what you're talking about is a coffee table book called Louis Vuitton City Bags. It's almost like a catalog of bags but it doesn't cover everything so I don't know if yours will be in there. You can find it on the LV website or Amazon.
