Best Blues Band ever. I was turned on to them back in 1971 on my tour of Vietnam in the Marine Corps. Some good beer, a little tai stick Bud, and the Allman Brothers cranked on the Barrak's stereo, made all of the other scary stuff of war, a little easier to get through.
    Thanks

Statesboro Blues, Melissa, Blue Sky, One Way Out... this band is so varied, and so excellent at all its different types of music... all the while, being the Allman Brothers Band. Recognizable in all of them. Just grab Live at the Fillmore East, or Eat a Peach, and press play.

The Allman Brothers were known as a Jam Band. Their live cuts of these album tunes would last 20, 30 minutes, or more. They would play off of each other and just keep the jam going - true bliss to hear it live!

Thank you for covering this song. It's one of my favortie Allman Brothers songs. Duane's solo is otherworldly. It pisses me off when someone makes a list of the best solos and this one is not one of them This is a masterpiece and I am glad you recognized thisl

Polo I enjoy watching you experience all of this historic music for the first time and in several cases, songs I’ve heard literally a billion times you helped me achieve the feeling of hearing it for the first time again and I thank you! To appreciate the Allman Brothers you have to understand the body of their work, the immense tragedies they suffered, and the depth of the talent of this bunch of jazz-influenced hillbillies from Macon Georgia who put Muscle Shoals studio on the map in the late 1960’s. They were decades ahead of their time and single-handedly created a whole genre. With that said, “Dreams” is a waltz (a 3/3 beat, very rare in rock and roll), and a celebration of the late Duane Allman who died very young and, aside from Johnny Winter, was the greatest white boy slide guitar player that ever lived. The late Johnny Winter, I should add, was the very last of the greatest of the great blues/slide players. Your continuing education in rock and roll should definitely include Johnny’s versions of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode “, Dylan’s “Highway 61 [Revisited]” or The Rolling Stones “Stray Cat Blues”. Enjoy!

You should give Marshall Tucker Band a listen. “Can’t You See” is one of my all-time favorite songs. I’m only bringing it up because I saw them sharing a stage with the Allman Brothers when I was a kid back about a hundred years ago.

This is one of the great bands ever, an incredible mix of rock, blues and jazz that is both unique and accessible. I personally think Stormy Monday is a masterpiece of the genre, along with In Memory of Elizabeth Reed -- but definitely go with live versions. Can't go wrong with the FIllmore album.

  • @gleffersjr6855

This was definitely an 'album cut'. The Brothers didn't really do 'singles' in the way that pop bands do them, with the exception of their biggest 'hit' "Ramblin Man", which has a very country feel to it before the guitars really kick in. Very different from most of their other big songs. Like several others below, I'd really appreciate a reaction to "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" from "At Fillmore East". It's a live cut that is IMO the high point for the original band. It's a Dicky Betts instrumental and is a very jazzy mix of blues, rock and swing that is incredible for a live performance having a lot of improvisation.

The band is from 1974 . The only 100% fully Native American band that I can recall that hit the charts. The band is Redbone " Come And Get Your Love" Love what you are doing! And love your videos!

  • @tedschmidt3288
    @tedschmidt3288 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Anything from the live at Fillmore album is a classic. Not one bad song. I've probably checked out every reaction video to the Allman Brothers and hardly any of them do, "you don't love me". Why, probably because there are more known song such as whipping post, in memory of Elizabeth Reed, Statesboro blues etc. I'd say it's one of my favorites but then I love the whole album. Once you get a few more of their tunes behind you you may be ready for the masterpiece, Mountain Jam. From the same concert but they put it on the next album called eat a peach.

This is classic rock at its best. I was a teenager in the late 60s early 70s and ABB music is very much a part of that soundtrack in my memory. I live near Macon Ga and sometimes ride over to visit the band members graves and gang out at The Big House where the band once lived. Great band, great memories.

I knew this song as I'd seen the Brothers perform it several times, but didn't own the album. Shortly after 9/11, on a 9 hour drive alone, I got a this CD at a truck stop. This song mesmerized, yet energized & inspired me. It's one of my favorite songs ever since. It's definitely an album cut, but try it out alone, loud, on a highway drive - you'll feel it in your core. I had the same reaction to Miles Davis, In A Silent Way (whole album). They're both mystical or somethin'.

This band one my favs. For obvious reasons. But don’t know if anybody has mentioned this about this band. Because they had a black member in the band a lot clubs and venues would not let them play so they went up north and played those clubs. When they became who they are those same clubs that would allow them to play asked them to play their venues. They told them you would let us back then we won’t today Mad Respect for that 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼😃

Dreams was their effort to make something from 2001 soundtrack. It was not a single. It is, however, my favorite song by anyone ever. The full impact for Dreams is at the end when the listener is almost in a trance (hence the name "Dreams") and then Whipping Post comes out at you BAM!
In an interview once, Gregg said he thinks he sounds like James Brown with no lips.

Album cuts were better than singles. Singles are for the masses. Album cuts are for the discerning listeners and fans. If singles were your best songs back then, you weren't a great group, you were considered a "singles" band. The great groups saved their best for the albums, their singles were to make money, albeit many of their singles were both commercial and critical successes. Led Zep and Pink Floyd had few Top Ten hits, they became big because of their concerts and the advent and rise of FM in the 70s which eschewed the sameness of every AM Top 40 station and played the album cuts from the masters that people wanted to hear - and as a bonus, in stereo while AM was still mono.

I have yet to see a reaction to the fabulously intense guitar work on the Jimi Hendrix song”The Stars That Play with Laughing Sam’s Dice”. If you like something extremely heavy and intense then you need to definitely check it out! With Hendrix (IMHO) being the greatest rock guitarist that ever lived this song ranks at the top of his stellar work. Also, the Hendrix song “Pali Gap” is another tremendous cut, albeit much different in tone than “Stars”.

What a great reaction. Why? Because you didn't like it, and you said you didn't like it. I've never heard this song either and was interested to hear it (I do like the Allman Brothers) and I also wasn't too into the song. Not bad but not great. It's nice to see a reaction channel where the host actually gives you their honest opinion instead of just smiling and nodding and pretending they like every song.

I think you would like the Buddy Miles version or the Molly Hatchet version. They are more upbeat. I agree it's a good atmosphere but doesn't really pull you in.

Bro, first time viewer. I can tell you that having seen WARREN HAYNES from 1989-present, anything you check out from him will not suck. Where do I even begin, for real.... Try THORAZINE SHUFFLE, to set you back in your chair. Once you recover get into the whole catalog and Blow Your Mind!

Try the songs, "One Way Out" or "Midnight Rider." These guys are more of a jam band, sort of like The Dead. If you want to just rock out, throw on some AC/DC, Aerosmith or Van Halen (1984 or earlier).

Really enjoy your reactions. I would not have recommended Dreams immediately after Whipping Post. Too much of a disparity between these two Allman Brothers songs. While I really like Dreams, I would have recommended Black Hearted Woman (studio version) or One Way Out from their Fillmore East album. The Allman Brothers have many great songs. They are arguably the greatest blues rock band of all time. My favorite guitar player is Duane Allman. If you want to hear his guitar playing at its peak, I recommend you react to In Memory of Elizabeth Reed (must be the Fillmore East album live version).
