I would love to share a tip given to me by a fellow Hawaiian a long time ago. The secret to really good Hawaiian salad, and it's going to sound strange, but it's to add apple cider vinegar after you've strained your noodles. There's something about that apple cider vinegar that makes the dish phenomenal. And you're adding a good amount. So maybe for the amount you boiled, you would use a 1/4 a cup of apple cider vinegar. 😊 Just remember the noodles need to be hot so they can absorb the vinegar ❤
My late grandmother’s Hawaiian Potato Mac recipe is the most requested thing at my immediate family’s dinner celebrations. It uses ebi in white vinegar, but bonito flakes sounds good too.
For those who are wondering where you can get the dasi at. They had it at HMart or at a Korean store. These are the only store that carries the dasi bag or in the package. They do have a vegan dasi one too. If you ever go to a Korean restaurant this is how Korean soup tasted so good because of the dasi. Us Korean people used these for soup and other food. You’re welcome! Thank you for the recipe, Leonora.
The mac salad at the local chicken business of my relatives and many other plate lunch kind of places use dry mustard as a special ingredient. Have you tried that?
When I was last in Hawaii, they served a similar side dish on a plate lunch as a potato macaroni salad. Do you think could I just add some boiled potato to the same recipe? Mahalo for this taste of the islands!
Dear Pickle Lady, I love your vids and my favorite is the Lilikoi Chiffon Pie. I have the ingredients and planning to make it today. I would like to have your cookbook. How can I get a copy? Thank you, Claudia
Tragically I don't use Best Foods mayonnaise anymore because at one time it used to be very thick and you were able to turn it upside down and it would not come out of an open jar but now it just runs out and is much more t h i n there are other brands out there that taste like the old best foods you just have to keep finding one
Hey--is it possible for you to sponsor a bonito flakes brand for sale? It really is hard and my girls are on the mainland-so even harder to find! Mahalos!!
Bonito flakes or hondashi can be found in most Honolulu grocers. Marukai has so many brands. It's hard to find so ask a cashier. Otherwise, go to Amazon.
Bonito flakes hard to find in Chinatown??? WTF??? B.S. Cmon that's the same as saying salt is hard to find in American stores.... Bonito flakes? Hard to find?

The mac salad at the local chicken business of my relatives and many other plate lunch kind of places use dry mustard as a special ingredient. Have you tried that?
No, but go with your taste. There are so many varieties.
Aunty the salt was spilling in when you was pinching it. 😂 Great show I'm a subscriber from Nanakuli Oahu🤙
It was the sugar spilling in. I was wondering if it would end up tasting too sweet…
they have that at Marukai or at honolulu area store Don Quiote!!
Mahalo Auntie

They should, or Marukai.
Just to clarify. The cooked macaroni is cold when you add ingredients and not just cooked warm yah? Mahalo
That is correct. Or room temperature.
