As a recent grad, I've been exploring OT as a future career and videos like yours have really helped in making my decision! It's been really inspiring to see a fellow Ghanaian woman making an impact in the field. I can't wait to get the chance to experience the same one day. Sending many thanks here from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you for this video. I have a BA in psychology and was thinking about a MSW but a lot of people complain, so I’m thinking of OT, because I live in NYC and if I’m going to work hard I need to get paid
This is the video I needed. I just decided on this major.. I’ve been taking my son to an OT specialist for a few years and always been so fascinated at the line of work + pay. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
I love the way you talk😍 I'm an occupational therapist and I have master degree in my country. I'm thinking of going to usa for living and your video really helped me to be sure about my decision. Thank you so much❤️
Thank you so much for providing this content 😊. I'll be starting school Fall of 2024 and deciding upon Medical billing and coding, OT , OR EKG Phlebotomy 🤧🤔🤔. Trying to currently make a decision and needed a little more insight...❤ So glad I found this video!! Subscribed
My suggestion is to shadow. Girl I've debated these 2 careers for years..there are pros & cons to each. To put it simply: if you are more holistic & easily have more patience with patients...OT If you are more into anatomy & phys.. faster acting solutions to diseases & don't mind complexity (or un-necessity) of medication administration..for example in some cases a patient getting too much than they need, also keeping up with side effects of medicines & contraindications etc try nursing. There is more flexibility /options & areas to work. Both are wonderful careers
100% OTs are underpaid. Found out from senior OTs that Hospitals NEED OTS, they dont know why but they NEED em always. Not to mention they know the whole body as well and do MENTAL health. At one hospital my friend is an OT making more than PTs because hospitals bill more for OTs but def OTs are underpaid
Hey there!! I was wondering if you had a video on how to pay for grad school/taking out loans for OT school! Maybe I missed it before but I would love to hear more about your experience with financing your education!
Oh yes it's very interesting, as a nurse working as an occupational therapist ,am looking for online study courses ..can't wait to get there..I just love it
Great video and informative , I’ve been speaking with a few schools in narrowing down to BS in Exercise Science with an emphasis on sports performance where it seems it can open doors to occupational therapy but I also saw there’s a program in another school that can get me from BS-Doctoral in occupational therapy . I like the thoroughness this BS in Science with emphasis on sports performance offers and I saw some schools I can transfer to MS but I wonder if that’s delaying instead of maybe going BS- Doctorate in OT. I wonder what are your thoughts ? I’m still searching a few schools , I do know I want to dive into the field of OT but I guess I wants BS in Science that can still potentially open the career field even aside from OT if that makes sense
LovelyyOT true education is expensive but with ot the pay especially with all these changes isn’t worth the investment. The roi compared to the debt is not worth it
OTR jobs are popping up everywhere, the field is hot right now. Most OTRs can write their ticket anywhere they want and name their price and the companies will pay the ransom. Sadly, COTA jobs are no where to be found due to companies cutting back on them in preparation for the 15% cut coming January 2022. I have a COTA friend in Canada and she just got 3 of her OTA friends a job in Canada because they couldn't find a job in the USA. No doubt, COTA and PTAs will be extinct soon...
@@LovelyyOT How about promoting the profession as a hole. Aaaah yes, that could be one answer. Naaah it'll never happen. Did you hear that in order to work in California as a Healthcare provider you will now be required to be vaccinated by October 1 2021 or you won't be allowed to work. No exceptions. exceptions. Bidens going to do the same thing for all of the USA. Are you vaccinated, if not, are you going to...
@@daynamoro4705 I've been out of OT for about nine years now, but I got a call from a recruiter last month who got my number thru an old application. I told her I was no longer in OT and asked her what the going pay was for a COTA. She stated around $24 to $30 and hour. The job turned out to be 8-20 hours per week which she stated was about average in todays market. She went on to say it was probably going to get worse with companies using assistants as PRN. I spoke with a recruiter in Canada and he said there's hundreds of COTA jobs and it's only going to get better. Most jobs are full-time starting at $25 an hour and up to $42 an hour with > 20 years. Remember, COTA/PTA don't need a degree and are not regulated so licensure is not required. Sounds like Canada is the place to be as an Assistant. Something to think about...
Do occupational therapists have to get vaccinated against COVID to find employment? I'm asking because I'm thinking about going back to school to become one but I'm unsure because of the COVID requirements. Thanks 🙏
I’ve been wondering this as well but from what I understand so far is that there are some business that require it and others that don’t. I’m still unsure as well and am in the same place as you. But I’m assuming that if it’s a couple more months or years then maybe we should be fine to not get it? I’m hoping someone else knows this.
wow this is the first time im seeing a GH OT. I could tell by the gap (I have one too :) and your pronunciations. it helps to see someone who is like me do it.
I'm so glad to find your TH-cam channel. I have a question...Should we go for Occupation Therapy or Occupation Therapy Assistant? Are there a huge difference? What would you recommend? Thank you very much!
kortnee loving Thank you for replying. I just graduated and I’m moving to Florida and I’ve been in a couple of groups that said getting a job is hit or miss. I really don’t want to work in a SNF.
Tina H Yes, right now it is. The COVID and changes to the payment system has caused a major hit. I’ve been a COTA for 6 years and it’s never been like this during my time. The changes took place OCT 1 of last year. Mostly in home health and SNF.
kortnee loving Yes, I know I had to have my FW reassigned from a SNF. COVID and the payment system is changing the way COTA’s work unfortunately. I’ll just pray that it doesn’t come down to a SNF. It’s looking like I’m gonna be going for my Masters soon too.
Tina H Yes, I hear it’s changing for OTs too. Such as they’re laying off OTs, maybe keeping one or two and having more COTAs since of course they can’t afford the OTs as much as they can the COTAs. I think it depends on the area and city. I enjoy the SNF. Going back for masters for me was a must! And can open up a lot more opportunities.
OT is 95% women, paid like shit, its hard work (if you do it right), nobody understands or respects what you do BUT Its rewarding, you have a lot of options (just not financially), jobs are eeeasy to find in 2024 and its easy to work parttime. If you're looking for meaning and like people.. good choice. If you wanna make money, have an easy life or have a career (status).. bad choice.
What's that saying, Dr.s add days to life but OTs add life to days
Amen!!

Well OT is VERY different in terms of education... you need at least a master's degree to become licensed & to practice
Is it true you need a mastera to get a license
I love watching your videos, I am currently in the Occupational Therapy program and your videos really keep me motivated ❤️❤️❤️

Some work in the summer or do admin work, but that & loans

I would go for OT if it didn’t put me in a six figure debt
It’s criminal and def not worth it. Good choice.

most adult settings , yes.
Yes, unless I were immuno-compromised, I wouldn't even work on healthcare or in schools without being vaccinated. Just too many gems & hardship...
I am in Jamaica. Where is the best place to do the training. I am a trained Social Worker
I am a therapist. So many pros. So many cons. Period.
Can you elaborate?
May I ask what are some of the cons?
true ...
Thanks, Lovely!!! Your enthusiasm is amazing! Don't you need special training after graduating to focus on any one particular area in OT?
If you want to absolutely! Its not mandated and also if you want to add it to your credentials :) it makes me more official
This made me cry 🥺❤️
oh NOOO WHY?> am sorry
I have my first interview today with a public school, do you have any advice
I want to work with toddlers and be off by 2 to be home with my own kids, is home health early intervention my best bet?
Early intervention part time yes - home health

Hi! I am a COTA in Ga. Yes, we can make a great living. It depends on the area. I am currently applying for masters of OT to further my career.
