  • VHS Tape that came with your new 1999 Jetta. Goes over some basic controls, features, etc.
Some things I noticed: The manual seat control is like a Mk3, not like a mk4. The radio is from a Mk3 and has green backlights not blue. Door plugers are like a 98 beetle and don't go flat. The fuses are the German style with the top open. The script on the VR6 engine cover is the Mk3 font not the Mk4. I'm sure there are a couple other differences too.

But these old videos are great they show a lot of information and I learned a lot. I'm going to make my car look new like it was in the day.

I didnt even know you could roll up the damn widows with a key and i had mine for 2 years!

Homicidal according to a road test by Motorweek (a long running car based TV show since 1981) on a 1995 Volkswagen GTI VR6 (the first GTI with a V6 engine), you could also roll the windows up with the key in the driver’s door in that car. I think VW was among the first to offer this as well as offer what I call the “switchblade key” (that’s the key that retracts like a switchblade knife with the push of a button).

lmfao, this has always been my favorite "trick" when someone tells me I didn't roll the windows up

I love this video. hahahaha I watch it when I want to laugh. I drive one of these, and I find something great every time I see this video. I wish I had the VHS that came with it.

A cool hidden gem is visible in the video. The MK4 had three visors. If you look at the part of the video of the sunroof and light controls you see the mini visor. It kept the tiny bit of light between the top of of the rear view and the painted surface at the top of the windshield sun free.
How many people knew it was even there?

    • @midorialexandros

I've owned three different MK4s, and only found that stupid flap on my GLI this last weekend LOL

I have no problems appreciating a Mk3 jetta, with all of its oddities. A Mk4 is harder to work on and makes too much sense.

wow they really were paranoid about people getting into the trunk in 1999 a 'valet key' plus locks on the interior trunk release and rear seats!

  • @CJBMAGGOT94

Well the MK3 has shitty placement of things. The crank sensor is underneath the front engine mount. You have to take the engine mount to swap it out. The MK4 crank sensor is right on the front of the engine block in plain sight. Seems VW put things on the MK4 2.0l where they should have been from the start lol.

I have a 1999 vr6 automatic, and I would avoid the automatic at all costs, it is already on its second gearbox and it won’t be long until it fails again lol
Otherwise, it’s a very comfortable, reliable and it’s so fun to drive, but you have to look after it well, as with other german cars

Edgar Aragon Mexico (which is one of VW’s loyal markets new or old) is where the Jetta, some Golfs and most GTIs are built. Puebla (near Mexico City) is where the plant that builds the Jetta is.
