      Desperate times calls for desperate measures, and Ursula always made sure that if they had something worth her time, they’d always seek her out in their time of desperation.

    • @anonymousfellow8879
      @anonymousfellow8879 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      ...it’s because at the basis of each wish Ursula “grants”, they’re all freaking shallow. (Hahh...) The one mermaid wants to be “thinner” vs owning what she has (which, considering Ursula’s confidence with her own plus-sized figure is pretty ironic). The skinny, derpy-looking guy “wants to get a girl” and blames it on his looks as well...when, that’s really not how it works. And the irony being, both end up together in the illustration-either they COULD’VE been happy together unaltered, OR they were BOTH going “outside their league” and only lusted after the other/essentially living a lie and WOULDN’T STAY happy
      Aaaaand, then there’s Ariel, stalking a random guy and “convinced” she’s “in WUV” with him...after only seeing “he’s handsome!” and “forbidden!”-she likes the IDEA of him, but literally knows NOTHING about him!
      In short? The people Ursula specifically preys after are all specifically wanting to MAKE people “fall in love”/“buy their love” with them...which, That Ain’t Love. Like NOT Even A Little. NOPE!!!!!
      Triton isn’t going to get any Father of the Year awards, and it in No WAY excused Ursula’s actions, but...
      I really have no sympathy for any of them. And “naive teen” or not, Ariel never bothered to actually THINK, just kinda expected everyone to either go along with what she wanted OR bail her out...and kinda came close to destroying the world in the process.
      (Eric liking her back is besides the point. It doesn’t end that way, and he’s as bad as she is.)
      ...why is this movie considered “positive” again???

      @@anonymousfellow8879 I loved ariel when I was younger but looking back it was kind of shirt of her to miss her dad's big celebration. It looked like everyone hard gone to a lot of work to make it happen and she just ruined it to play around. She literally sold her school for a man she never spoke to knows nothing about oh and hunts and sells her subject as the main income of his people. But for Disney at least her and Eric actually got to send together before getting married

    This is why Ursula is one of the greatest Disney villians. She is a master manipulator. While yes, she lied about not being evil anymore, she was pretty much upfront about everything else. She let Ariel know what would happen if she ran out of time. She just kept pushing the positives more. Ariel was fully aware of what the entire deal entailed. It was her choice to sign. It's funny how the scene is pretty much the exact opposite in the original story. In that the sea witch keeps telling the mermaid that this is a bad deal and gives her so many opportunities to leave until she is forced to acquiesce and make her human because she won't listen.

      Notice how Ursula alternates between saying something true and telling a lie? "I admit that in the past I've been a nasty..." true. "But you'll find that nowadays, I've mended all my ways..." a lie. "And I fortunately know a little magic..." true. "...I use it on behalf of the miserable..." a lie. And so on.

      She would turn Ariel into a human, Ariel would drown, the tei would probably go to Ursula and she would manipulate him into making a contract with her, or impersonate Ariel the same way she did with Vanessa. But when Ariel didn't drown, she was like, "Oh, that didn't work... Well, plan B."

      It exists so much business people that will interfere to turn around a contract to their advantage. Just watch... half TV series about a certain business (lawyer, music industry, restaurant, etc.). I am sure that most of our capitalist heroes have done it (and I bet the present USA president too). It is honest? No. Is it a feature of a hero? No... Maybe for an anti-hero... But is it evil?... Not sure...

    I think the idea was to make Aerial uncomfortable so she'd be less decisive, so she'd be less focused. This was cool btw, too many songs to analyse... the best ones would be ones that say a lot about the character, for example in 'how far I'll go', we see both Moana's doubts and determination, her conflicting thoughts, and even learn a bit more about Pua (that how you spell it?) while in a song like 'mother knows best', we see just how manipulative Gothel is, her control covered by her so-called care and concern, while we see Rapunzel try to fight back against the lyrics but unable to, showing both her determination and vulnerabilities.

    In addition to making Ariel "comfortable enough", Ursula knows that making a target scared pressures him or her to make decisions rashly and without thinking. The idea is that the more scared you are, the more likely you are to make a bad decision just to get out the situation making you uncomfortable. Ursula does a good job of balancing both fear and trust to manipulate Ariel.

      I reckon that, since Aerial didn't know Melody was visiting the sea, she just thought "you can't go there" was enough... when Aerial finally had a chance to try and explain, Melody was so angry she couldn't. As for why she didn't just tell her the truth... well, would Melody believe her? If I were Melody, I would have kept asking why until I got a response, but I either would not have believed her, or would have wanted to visit the sea even more.

      Ursula was honest in the specifics of the deal, but completely dishonest regarding her intentions. She framed the whole thing as her being a philanthropic octopus/woman who yes, had a dark past, but who has "repented, seen the light, and made a switch." Lies. She's even more dangerous now than when she tried to overthrow Triton because at least that was out in the open. All this is predatory and manipulative.

    What Ursula /didn't/ say was just as important as what she did say - and it probably was all within the contract that Ariel didn't read - a hint at what Ursula's real motivations were there, that she reserved the right to interfere in Ariel's doings on land, etc. - otherwise I somehow doubt that it would be "legal, binding, and completely unbreakable" as she says to Triton as he was unable to destroy it.
    Just a thought.

    I love the songs of Disney, and this series seems like a lot of fun. My song suggestion is "Prince Ali" a back to back contrasting the original version when Alladin is paraded through the streets of Agrabah and the revised version when Jafar with the power from his 2nd wish reveals who Prince Ali really is. Maybe convention is you only do one song, but the two versions contrast so well off of each other and the reprised one is kind of short to be in a video on it's own.

    As much credit as Ursula is given, you gotta remember King Triton. There's no way she would have succeeded without his being such a horrible parent. I'd be desperate to get the heck away from him too.

    • @BrcRosa
      @BrcRosa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Triton reacted in a bad way. A horrible parent. Absolutely not.
      Ariel obviously has a history of being rebellious and not a rule follower. Or just very distractible, has no sense of time, and forgettable. Thus my theory she may have ADD.
      Missing a concert that you were supposed to be the featured singer in front of your 👑 fathers subjects is a legitimate reason to be upset.
      His biggest rule is no contact with the humans. Which given the way humans fish and the cultural and physical separation between the 2 species is quite understandable.
      When you bring in her mothers death from the 3rd movie then there would be a more emotional connection to his human hatred.
      He views interactions with the humans as death. He does not want his youngest daughter to die. She doesn't understand his fear.
      He is desperate and at his wits end. He's a single father with an ocean to rule. He is lost and constantly questions whether he has done the right thing. He shows over again that he deeply cares for her.
      If your child is addicted to what you see as a deadly drug do you keep enabling that addiction or do Everything you possibly can to break that addiction.
      It is clear she has been pushing the human interaction thing for awhile.
      "You went to the surface again didn't you!?! Didn't you!?!"
      If one of my kids started going around a dangerous gang who was known to get its members or the people around them killed I would feel pretty desperate to protect them.
      Her declaring her love for a human is beyond any horrible thing he could think of in reference to humans. He sees them as mindless, soulless harpoon wielding fish eaters.
      She is playing with fire.
      I think it is shown that they do have a loving relationship. They have unfortunately hit a rough period during her teenage years. These things do happen. Their situation is extreme though which makes the story more exciting.
      Triton witnessing Eric and Ariel fighting for and protecting one another when he is at his weakest and has failed to protect her makes him reconsider his hatred.
      That is a pretty huge amount of growth for anyone. He wants his daughter to be happy. The loving look on his face before he changed her and the sorrow at the thought of missing her is heart breaking. But her happiness is more important to him. Even if that means sending her into a world he still must fear.
      And yes this doesn't mean he will never see her but whenever a child moves out into the world it is hard on the parent and you don't see your children as much as they build their own lives.
      The love they both display in the last scene brings tears to my eyes and makes my heart hurt every time.
      The respect Triton and Eric have gained for one another is also very touching.

    Ursula was my 👑 Queen. In history, the witch is treated like a pariah. Even though they are probably herbalist and in tuned with nature. They have innate abilites and knowledges. But those that judged them still go to their banished 🏡 for taboo stuff. Like abortions at young ages because thats proof their not virgins. And also attracting Titled men and women, etc Although astranged, people still (Disrespectfuly) ask for help and make payment for her services.
    Ursula was apparently apart of the kingdom but merpeople estranged her to live alone. So i can understand why she did what she did and her hatred. Merpeople treated her differently so she benefits from them and take advantage of the merpeople by making deals. But of course, if you can't do the deal, then boohoo. You shouldn't have come here knowing better. Payment is due. Whatcha expect from a person who KNOWS shes not respected by them.

    So....Jafars song in the end of Aladdin is confusing. Alladin is a prince and then I guess....Jafar turns him back into not..a..prince? And we know that being a sultan doesn't mean you're more powerful than the genie. This is all sung through song and confusing.

    • @DavidJones-gw8go
      @DavidJones-gw8go 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jafar had technically wished to be the most powerful sorcerer before that, but yeah, still not more powerful than Genie.
      I think the whole point was that Aladdin was never technically a prince, and the whole movie is his first wish, and he has to marry Jasmine to be a real prince.

    • @j.pnewcomer1069
      @j.pnewcomer1069 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree Genie's plan was to make Aladdin a prince since Aladdin wished for it, but Genie did it in a typical-genie'd-loophole kind of way; probably because even though he is an all powerful genie, use of great power comes with great consequences (and responsibility). So Genie formulated a way to make Aladdin prince without messing up the current way in which the sultans, princes and so on's lineage worked (as well as land since Princes would rule over their own village/kingdom/ whatever) he disguised Aladdin as a prince so that Aladdin had a way to get to know Jasmine more, away from the streets of Agriba where Jasmine was not aloud to go (especially after sneaking out). Making Aladdin able to have access to the palace and Jasmine so that they could fall in love and be married, making Aladdin, of course, a prince. Wish number one? Check!

    • @DavidJones-gw8go
      @DavidJones-gw8go 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@j.pnewcomer1069 Indeed, Genie was fully capable of making Aladdin a prince, the same way he made Jafar sultan, phenomenal cosmic powers and all that. Unlike most Genie stories, however, Genie actually respected the intent of his masters' wishes. Jafar wanted to be sultan for the power, Aladdin wanted to be a Prince so he would be able and allowed to court Jasmine.

    • @Capydapy
      @Capydapy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Karena Brown Jafar is using his own Prince Parade song against him and is mocking him and teasing him and is showing what a fake he is to the Sultan and Jasmine to shame them all.
      Jafar just takes off his "Prince Costume " and puts him back in his old "Street Rat Clothing ". Jafar doesn't take away his Prince title, because it wasn't there, to begin with.
      Jafar just knows that Aladdin is playing pretend and is bullying him and teasing him.
