There actually is an original version of this song that was released by Matt Thiessen's solo project "Matthew Thiessen and the earthquakes" on a compilation CD about 2-3 years ago. I'll post again when I find it.
Nobody said you couldn't view it the way you do. But the way you worded your comment made it sound like you thought the metaphor was the band's intention behind the song. Nobody's forcing anything. I suggest we all stop being so defensive and enjoy the beauty of this song.

A.K.A dying the death on the cross that we deserve to save us from our sin, and raising from the dead; the part of us that died along with him referred to in the song is our sin. Amazing song, and beautiful metaphor, glad a friend explained it to me or i would have missed it!

Jesus did not fake die or commit suicide. This song is no metaphor. If it were, it would be completely undermining Christ's sacrifice.
