We need Relient K again
One of the best covers of this song around. Don't like Christian rock? Cheesed about some autotune? Go pound sand. Music belongs to us all.
I really like the back up part sung by the bass player. Hoist up the John B saaaails See how the main seettts Do doop, Do doop, Do doop, Let me go hoooooome Do doop, Do doop, Do doop, Do doop Do doop, Do doop, Do doop, Do doop Do doop, Do doop, Do doop, Do doop Do doop, Do doop, Do doop, Do doop
Excellent version of one of my favourite songs,.i first learned this song in school when my music teacher made us sing it . He was very strict and would scold us for getting it wrong when he could barely play it on piano... 35yrs later i decide i need to play an instrument. I bought a ukulele and found a local group and sloop john b is one of our best songs .. you have a new subscriber from the uk..
My favorite version of this song!
That’s The Kingston Trio version, which doesn’t make sense to me. "I feel so break up"? I don’t get it. Why would it be written like that? It’s bad grammar.
For a second I thought this was the the cabin where fall out was playing sugar we’re going down
Gary hi
Good
We come on the Sloop John B My grandfather and me Around Nassau town we did roam Drinking all night Got into a fight Well I feel so broke up I want to go home So hoist up the John B's sail See how the main sail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I want to go home, yeah yeah Well I feel so broke up I want to go home The first mate he got drunk And broke in the Cap'n's trunk The constable had to come and take him away Sheriff John Stone Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah Well I feel so broke up, I want to go home So hoist up the John B's sail See how the main sail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I want to go home, let me go home Why don't you let me go home (Hoist up the John B's sail) Hoist up the John B I feel so broke up I want to go home Let me go home The poor cook he caught the fits And threw away all my grits And then he took and he ate up all of my corn Let me go home Why don't they let me go home This is the worst trip I've ever been on So hoist up the John B's sail See how the main sail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I want to go home, let me go home Why don't you let me go home
Dave Douglas… talented drummer boy
Super. But Beach Boys version best for me.
We come on the sloop John B My grandfather and me Around Nassau town we did roam Drinking all night Got into a fight Well I feel so broke up I want to go home So hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I wanna go home, yeah yeah Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home The first mate he got drunk And broke in the Cap'n's trunk The constable had to come and take him away Sheriff John Stone Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home So hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I wanna go home, let me go home Why don't you let me go home (Hoist up the John B's sail) Hoist up the John B I feel so broke up I wanna go home Let me go home The poor cook he caught the fits And threw away all my grits And then he took and he ate up all of my corn Let me go home Why don't they let me go home This is the worst trip I've ever been on So hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, let me go home I wanna go home, let me go home Why don't you let me go home
Great Song!
The Beach Boys forever.
Best version I’ve heard.
I used to drive a reliant k car
Relient K's version: Come on the sloop John B My grandfather and me Around Nassau town we do roam Drinking all night, got into a fight Oh yeah! I feel so break up, I want go to home Hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home I want to go home, why won't you let me go home? Yeah! I feel so break up, I want to go home The first mate he got drunk Broke up the people's trunk The constable had to come and take him away Sheriff John Stone, why don't you leave me alone? Yeah! I feel so break up, I want to go home Hoist up the John B's sail See how the mainsail sets Call for the Captain ashore Let me go home, I want to go home, Why don't you let me go home? Yeah! I feel so break up, I want to go home The cook yeah he caught the fits And threw away all my grits And then he came and he ate up all of my corn Let me go home, why won't you let me go home? I feel so break up, I want to go home
What in the goddamn!? Relient K? Doing a Beach Boys cover!? AND it's great!? How the fuck did I miss this?
Based on the lyrics it’s actually a Kingston Trio cover.
i wish RK would cover every song ever written
Kudos to them for actually using the real lyrics, no matter how gramatically incorrect.
Wow...these guys are good. Really good.
Why are they singing "break up" instead of "broke up"?
Bad, very bad.
This is good, but...it's, "I feel so BROKE up"--not, "break up." It's really that annoying. And Relient K is one of my favorites. Guys...why?🤦♂️
The Kingston Trio recorded the tune with "break up" in 1958, and the Beach Boys changed it to "broke up" in their 1966 rendition.
@@justsomenut89 Beach Boys got it right. 😎
Very nice I would say, except it's a little disconcerting when they say, "I feel so break up," or at least that's what I hear.
Because the original version by the Kingston Trio had the phrase "break up." Remember, it was originally done as a calypso song, before the Beach Boys turned it into a pop song. They changed the phrase to "broke up." Listen to Al Jardine's version of it, as he sings it Kingston Trio-style to start, then evolves it into Beach Boys style.
Pretty good.
For people saying they changed the lyrics... They didn't. The beach boys did. This song predates beach boys by decades. This is truer to the original.
Love this version.
Wait. It’s “I feel so broke up”. Otherwise, nice job. 👍✌️
TheFourpegs - You’re mistaken. The song has been around a long time and I believe the original lyrics are break up. See the Kingston Trio for an example. The Beach Boys changed it to broke up, but even in their recording one of them (Al, I think) sings break up by mistake in the beginning.
Ahh, I wasn’t aware of the Kingston Trio version. Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve always thought that line kind of awkward in any case.
Is the drummer playing with two flashlights?
He has two sticks with shakers on them. It adds a shaker sound without the need for a dedicated person with typical shakers.
Nice try, it’s quite clear at 2:21 that he taped his brushes to two MagLites and filled them with BBs.
not bad but i have heard better
Bravo!
WHY WAS THIS TAKEN OFF ITUNES?!!
They must have stole it from Beach Boys illegally
What a quirky wack song !!! I must be too for watching LOL!!?? There is a BANJO IN THERE! Banjo's a happy instrument played loudly, but here it's subdued and, sort of quiet... well damn now that's confusing... hmm!
This song puts me in such a great mood, and makes me smile...lol!
i love song!!! you guys are great!:)
Interesting mellow version. I like it up.
Cool new version of this song. I had a K car so that's a plus LOL
I'd like to hear that. The truth is EVERY one uses it. Not in the sense that you see someone like T-Pain or Rebecca Black, but it's essential. I seriously doubt that he didn't use some. If he didn't, I'd like to hear it.
I've worked with producers and helped a friend with a single. Didn't use autotune.
in a live situation yes, but I promise you every artist uses auto tune. Some just need it more than others. Obviously Relient K doesn't need it much. I'm a producer, you need to have some sort of auto tune because it all has to be in sync and flow with the right frequencies as the other instruments.
I never said he did.
The Sherlock Fandom has arrived*-* <3 Reichenfeels:'(
The Beach Boys version is obviously a lot better, but it's pretty descent.
what's your point?
... nope, don't want to. This is my favorite band, and if you have a problem with that then just get over it.
This is my favorite cover of The Beach Boys which is my favorite group of all times
Matthew Thiessen has a naturally high voice. He can hit those high notes no problem. I don't believe that this is auto tuned after seeing them live and being obsessed with them as long as I have.
You may not realize but not every artist does use autotune. It may surprise you given the state of the music industry but some people can actually sing without needing the aid of technology
While I agree with you that it does sound like they are using auto-tune here, I have to disagree with the assertion that a) singers don't have perfect pitch. There are plenty that DO have perfect pitch. I know one personally. And b) that every artist and band uses it. It was not invented until 1998. Therefore any artist prior to that had to sing the correct pitches. It is not difficult to tune all of the instruments and sing on pitch.
