Hey, if you’re still wondering, basically the whole Gray Spirit thing is a mechanic where you’ll be summoned to try and get to a certain point while the host attempts to kill you. No consequences if you lose, but a lil reward if you succeed. (Requires the host to have a certain covenant ring gotten from an NPC.)

If you dont know, that +10 armor someone gave you you can get over at the same place with the old orenstein fight, you have to kill those enemies in white cloaks. ( if you try to get it, just know you're in for a lot of farming, so you should have probably kept it just in case.)

For anyone confused by Dan being summoned as a gray spirit and what that even means and if it's coop or PvP or whatever: The 2 areas where it happened are areas owned by the Rat King Covenant. If you're a member, the enemies there won't attack you. These gray spirits spawn at the start of the area, and the enemies are aggressive to them. The rat areas also have lots of Pharros Lockstone contraptions that turn on traps or open up bridges, doors and similar. Essentially, by turning on different contraptions, the covenent member can customize their own little obstacle course for gray spirits to be thrown into. As a gray spirit, you win by either getting to the end of the area or killing the covenent member that summoned you in PvP combat. If you do win as a gray spirit, you get teleported to the end of the area in your world, essentially skipping the area for you, and if you die, you don't lose anything, getting sent back to where you were in your world. Funnily enough him blaming miyazaki for the number of enemies in scholar of the first sin is 100% accurate as itz the version miyazaki made to "fix" ds2
From what I hear it was the Scholar of the First Sin edition that added a bunch more enemies and those petrified statues that block you from getting to places. SotFS was the version I played and although there were parts I didn't like I mostly enjoyed the game, however I feel like I would've enjoyed the original version more as my first attempt at the game.
For the most part yes. Some statues are still there, to shaded woods (girl you give clothes/sells pyromancer), and the guy blocking the bonfire in the cell/sells sorceries are like that in DS2 vanilla. But there is one area that was improved in the Scholar. Instead of a normal area with enemies out the wazoo, the dragon area (bad with names) where ancient dragon is changed it to be more of a duel arena where most enemies just watch as long as you kill the big guys and the one champion at the end. That. To me, was a huge improvement. Most areas still aren’t that bad if you go slow, other than Shrine of Almana and Iron Keep (enemy aggro range is so ridiculous in Scholar there, and there’s so many; one enemy comes from another room despite zero line of sight it’s ridiculous). I prefer vanilla to Scholar for the most part. But the dragon area I mention and the shortcut in the wharf (that bridge isn’t there for some weird reason) are nice improvements. And the torch scares spiders so they leave you alone, which was also added in Scholar. So not all changes were as dumb as adding a statue to block off a tutorial area. 👍
16:39 that would be an interesting game mechanic. you escort an NPC with arachnophobia through a spider area. none of the spiders are actually deadly or anything, but you have to navigate the NPC in such a way that they never see one or they'll run all the way back to the entrance
@@Noah-kc2pi I know why he did it and I hated that area as well. I just thought it was funny that he accidentally used the gang to beat the easiest boss.
Though every time I play through again I go hollow trying to relearn, or decide not to. It's very easy to just smack against something, or even land on the door and fall in an attempt to save it.
Good news, you can get lucatiel's armor (and benharts, dude with the blue sword) The only requirement is that they are summoned for, and survive 3 bossfights, it can be the same boss three times(you can put an area one NG+ cycle higher with a bonfire aescetic, doing so in an area containing a boss also respawns the boss.) Both will move to their final location after, and give you their entire set, also, i believe there is a version of lucatiel's hat without the mask, somewhere in one of the DLCs
One other thing I'd like to mention is that a few of my friends are arachnophobes and personally I used to be one aswell but with so many games containing spooders I started to overcome it because I changed my thought process by realising that I could unlife the spooders in the game which helped me realise that they aren't that scary. Since then I've become an avid fan of some youtubers that collect big spooders and tarantulas. Food for thought.
It's funny to me that RT invokes Miyazaki's name when talking about the design (I get that it's for a joke), when Miyazaki had little to nothing to do with this game as he was all hands on deck on working on Bloodborne at that time. I just find it a bit ironic
4:29 Glad you asked! It's because Dark Souls 2 decided that their game needed snap points in the stick movement. If you move the stick too close to an increment in your stick's 360 movement, then your character will snap to that direction. It seems that speed has an effect on this, as running tends to snap you more easily to a direction. Another note is the game physics. It can be wonky at times, and when you intend to just drop off a platform, the physics could instead decide to just shoot you out into the direction you were going. But only sometimes.
I love how RT was talking like the developers were asking Miyazaki for advice on how to make the game more difficult by adding more enemies, when Miyazaki was too busy making Bloodborne to have any input on DS2's development. Great video RTGame :3
Great ds playthrough vids man! Very much enjoying the clips. I know this vid is a few weeks old, so this might be irrelevant (especially if you've learned since then), but just in case I have some random info for ya. You're getting summoned as a grey spirit because of the areas you ran through. Basically you can invest in traps in the rat areas and pull people into your world when they enter the rat Covenant areas in their worlds. If they make it to the end or kill you, they get rewarded. If you kill them, you get rewards towards covenant devotion. If I remember right, Miazaki and his primary team were working on Bloodborne while this game was in development, which is part of why it feels like it stands apart from other souls titles. I can't fully remember when, but roughly around or after the DLC dropped there was a massive overhaul to the game. A lot of enemies and items were moved around. I could be wrong, but I want to say things got overall harder. This title is certainly the weakest within the soulsborne games, but it'll always hold a special place in my heart. Keep in mind it was on the xb360 era when the only other souls games were ds1 and demon souls. It's far from perfect and it hasn't aged the best, but it's nice to see you still giving it a shot. Plus, despite all the flaws I did really like the bonfire ascetic feature and all the options for weapons/armors.
When it comes to storytelling, DS2 is my favorite of the trilogy. The armor choices, only game with armor upgrades (really want it in Elden Ring), unique armor stats and passive abilities, the unique bosses like Fume Knight or Aldia, and so much more different that DS2 did is why its my favorite apart from the enemy density of course and cheap deaths that can happen.
I respect your opinion, but Dark Souls 1 has upgradable armor, and unique armor stats/abilities (Kirk's spiked armor, Pinwheel's masks). The part about Fume Knight and Alida I get, but I guess I'm lost on the rest...
i absolutely adore that while you're streaming and having fans drop in and out of your session, they're also playing through the game alongside you. it's such a nice, refreshing change from all the other gaming related twitch content i watch. edit: the part where several of your chat volunteered to join and clear all the arachnids and the boss for you during that one area was unbelievably heartwarming! it was even more amazing when "SES Member 5" showed up as well, that was really cool roleplay.
I wanted to stalk him at the Huntsman's Copse as a "ghost of a Beckett" after he slapped me at the Forest and i "died", but felt so extremely bad after his "that's so mean" that i switched to the righteous helping Nega Becket instead. I think it worked out alright.
I'm arachnophobic and I soloed this whole game. Freja took several tries and it was probably the most horrible thing I've ever done to myself. Nice to see people can be so understanding.
I do laugh when RT talks about how they increased the number of enemies to make it harder when hes playing Scholar of the First Sin, a version of DS2 designed to be significantly harder XD
I didn't find out until after I'd beaten all 3 Lucatiel bosses about her. So I went back and used Bonfire Ascetics to redo those fights with her. Mistake since I did it twice against The Rotten, keeping her alive against NG++ Rotten was painful.
6:00 Peter Serafinowicz??!! He also plays AJ Crowley in the Good Omens radio drama adaptation. And yes, it follows him there too. Book fans do know him as the kitchen gun Crowley guy.
speaking as someone who learned the very basics of fencing but could, from there, only continue if I went to the class for the top level fencers; just using the one move you know over and over when it is obviously not working like that one enenmy Dan was fighting is soo relatable DX
Thanks to you, I'm getting into the souls series. Your elden ring video got me to play it and seeing this and your other souls videos I'm in blood borne and just got souls 1 and 3. Thanks for all the game times.
Man watching you play this has made me go back and finish dark souls 2 myself, first souls game I've ever finished. And I can say with 110% certainty that the enemy placement is SO MUCH WORSE in SOTFS. Like it's still not the greatest in the original version. But it's miles better
Hey Dan, fun fact that the enemies only have 15 respawns... unless you enable hard mode. When I first played this I made sure to light every single torch or sconce I could. Really livens up the place. On PC you can light torches using an already lit torch in the environment, a firefly in a jar item, or by cycling the options at a bonfire. Also poise damage is a thing you can deal.
Fun Fact: Scholar of the First Sin edition enemy numbers sucks! That thing you were talking about with there being way too many enemies? Yeah in the original release of the game the enemy numbers were actually a regular, *sane* amount, but for the Scholar of the First Sin edition they had the brilliant idea of "What if we just TRIPLED the enemy count of every level?" The absolute worst of it is in Earthen Peak and Iron Keep. I like most of the other changes this version made to the game like more unique NPC summons and invaders, new shortcuts, and remixed item placements. But I have NO IDEA what they were smoking at From headquarters when they decided on the new enemy numbers.
3:05 "he's meant to be a boss later you aren't supposed to beat him here." Says who? If you weren't supposed to beat him there then they wouldn't have let you. he would have run away at half hp or something.
They meant in in a normal progression way. Normally you wouldn't be able to kill him when you first meet him, but the game let's you if you're good enough or already gotten good gear
"Summoning against their will." Did nobody tell him, or did he just never read the chat messages about it? (To anyone unfamiliar, he's in the Bell Covenant, which summons defenders to any affiliated areas when people try to go through them. But only if they have the covenant on.)

Lucatiel: "I can't remember the face of my own family"
RT's Music: 🦑🎸🎶
The day he reaches Frigid Outskirts is the day he realises we were all trying to warn him
16:39 that would be an interesting game mechanic.
you escort an NPC with arachnophobia through a spider area. none of the spiders are actually deadly or anything, but you have to navigate the NPC in such a way that they never see one or they'll run all the way back to the entrance
18:09 thank you very much for putting that there Dan. im terrified of spiders and its very helpful.
So fun fact about the giants in the Black Gulch. There's normally only 2 of them but another one spawns for each summon you have.
Summons a guard squad to fight spiders, uses it to kill the easiest boss in the game
he has arachnophobia
@@Noah-kc2pi I know why he did it and I hated that area as well. I just thought it was funny that he accidentally used the gang to beat the easiest boss.
@@Icarus_4 there are no accidents.
fun fact, not a lot of people know but that door is an actual usable shortcut, you can jump (or rather run) to it from outside. 8:51
Though every time I play through again I go hollow trying to relearn, or decide not to. It's very easy to just smack against something, or even land on the door and fall in an attempt to save it.
@@insaincaldo keyboard and mouse for this jump and you nail it everytime

17:33 This small Godot-bit is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while
i have not watched this channel in so long i forgot how good this channel actually is
The chat creating a squad to kills spiders so that Dan doesn't have to look at them was pretty wholesome.
Such a blast watching you play through Dark Souls II
Got nothin witty to say so all I got is praise!
Good news, you can get lucatiel's armor (and benharts, dude with the blue sword)
The only requirement is that they are summoned for, and survive 3 bossfights, it can be the same boss three times(you can put an area one NG+ cycle higher with a bonfire aescetic, doing so in an area containing a boss also respawns the boss.)
Both will move to their final location after, and give you their entire set, also, i believe there is a version of lucatiel's hat without the mask, somewhere in one of the DLCs
6:30 Good ol’ Scholar edition…
I appreciate the other people being total bros and killing that spider boss for Dan
So glad part 2 is here Daniel! Absolutely thankful
Love the soulsborne game and stupid means to beat them!
It’s really nice to see a sequel (kinda) to my favorite RT video
I literally just watched the first ds2 vid, and now this dropped? I love it.
5:55 I love how nobody even brings up John Wick 2, because Derek Bum is definitely his most influential role.
I love how RT was talking like the developers were asking Miyazaki for advice on how to make the game more difficult by adding more enemies, when Miyazaki was too busy making Bloodborne to have any input on DS2's development.
Great video RTGame :3
I just had my wisdom teeth pulled, these videos have preserved my sanity while I'm just sitting around with my face hurting. Thank you rtgame
This time he should have called it Big Sword Adventure
This is one of my top Fromsoft games for playtime and I’ve literally never seen 7:29 that attack 😂
Dan: fighting hordes of enemies and near death
Rainbow Anarchy: WE JAMMIN UP IN HERE

Ahh the Black Gulch, the only time in ANY of the soulsborne games that I've broken a controller... good Times
Prowling Magus be like: "Wait, what? I'm the one who's supposed to have a crowd on my side, what the TH-cam is this?"
All the summons waiting to go through the fog wall for the spider looked so fricken epic
16:20 Cloé is an absolute TH-cam of a lass for this. Thank you
I think the fact that everyone bands together to help Dan with the spiders is very sweet
For someone named Negative Beckett, they were too wholesome...
I wanted to stalk him at the Huntsman's Copse as a "ghost of a Beckett" after he slapped me at the Forest and i "died", but felt so extremely bad after his "that's so mean" that i switched to the righteous helping Nega Becket instead. I think it worked out alright.
"As we can see, RT has presented a rather large sword to his friend (s)"
Was NOT expecting splatoon music to randomly play in the middle of a dark souls 2 playthrough
however it is very much welcome
It brings me joy hearing the ADP memes from way back
rt not knowing that he got the hardmode version of ds2 is very funny
I'm arachnophobic and I soloed this whole game. Freja took several tries and it was probably the most horrible thing I've ever done to myself. Nice to see people can be so understanding.
The fact that I could name all of the Splatoon music he used just from the snippets in the video really says a lot about me.
Do you know by any chance whats playing at 26:36 ? I cant find it

Hearing this and knowing about the horrible crunch the devs of Dark Souls 2 had to go through hurts my soul
Just occurred to me that the reason everyone I've summoned in DS2 lately has immediately despawned is because they all want to be part of the RT gang.
Mistake since I did it twice against The Rotten, keeping her alive against NG++ Rotten was painful.
that barrel smack through the wall in FotFG actually surprised me, I was always convinced they weren't loaded
6:00 Peter Serafinowicz??!! He also plays AJ Crowley in the Good Omens radio drama adaptation. And yes, it follows him there too. Book fans do know him as the kitchen gun Crowley guy.
Dan has a horrible fear of spiders? Guess I'll never see him play an EDF game :(
*Kills Ruin Sentinels with a Greatsword +5*
"That really wasn't that bad."
LMAO
Glad to see im not the only one who uses funny big sword
speaking as someone who learned the very basics of fencing but could, from there, only continue if I went to the class for the top level fencers; just using the one move you know over and over when it is obviously not working like that one enenmy Dan was fighting is soo relatable DX
You might be able to get a second greatsword by using a bonfire esthetic in the area where you got the first one.
You can also buy them from head of Vengarl
@@rhysofsneezingdragon1758 that's better, I have never played DS2
The game: *Literally a squad of every enemy in all corners*
Dan: *Summons the SES*

This is perfect timing for these videos to come out.
I just beat DS2 yesterday for the first time
Thank you rt for the new content!
Loving all the videos you're putting out lately, especially Grommit and Wallace.
3:05 "he's meant to be a boss later you aren't supposed to beat him here."
Says who? If you weren't supposed to beat him there then they wouldn't have let you. he would have run away at half hp or something.
They meant in in a normal progression way. Normally you wouldn't be able to kill him when you first meet him, but the game let's you if you're good enough or already gotten good gear
You're expected to get killed at that point. It won't come back if you fail to kill it and you'll have to fight it later at its real arena.
"Summoning against their will."
Did nobody tell him, or did he just never read the chat messages about it?
(To anyone unfamiliar, he's in the Bell Covenant, which summons defenders to any affiliated areas when people try to go through them. But only if they have the covenant on.)
