Wow, there's a sizable amount of hate about this game. Unfortunately yeah, this game is not for everyone. It has all the trappings of mobile games these days. But! I will say they did want they could with the platform they're working with. So I'll try to justify some of the sticking points. STICKING POINTS: 1) The HUD is cluttered. While the HUD can be less cluttered, essential stuff like the buttons you need to press have to be on the screen anyway, so I don't see this as much of a problem it's overwhelming like how some MMORPGs did UI. I see it as a decent compromise. Not everyone is willing to hook up a controller to their phone for this. 2) Game feels/looks too easy. This is an unfortunate consequence, it's hard to make a run 'n gun game feel good to control on a touchscreen. And so the bosses had to be "nerfed" when it comes to the execution of attacks and how to avoid them. Though a lot probably haven't played this game and are judging from how Banden is doing. It's probably more complicated than it looks, because this game has progression mechanics that improves your character as you play (or take shortcuts through microtransactions). This is common design especially in MMORPGs and bleeds here too, they can't just make a Dark Souls-like boss on a game meant to be played CASUALLY. 3) 3d models The ones that were actually designed by SNK and translated to 3d isn't actually that bad. A lot of the "criticism" is because a lot of people accept that fantastic 2d artwork is the hallmark of a good Metal Slug game, the moment you show people something drastically different there WILL be unacceptance and hate. From a purely 3d-modelling aspect though, I think this game does a really good job. Uncanny? Sure, but what did you expect with shift in media? Metal Slug 3d, another really panned Metal Slug game had some cool 3d models for bosses too. This game does it better in that regard because it fully transitions the stylized nature of the artstyle. Overall, I think this is best we have for Metal Slug content so far ever since the drought of mainline Metal Slug games, so there's some merit to be gained from this game's existence. It's NOT Metal Slug 8 but it's something and unfortunately not for everyone. Unrelated: People seem to be repelled by the fact that Tencent made this. I wanna ask: do you know how big of a tech company Tencent is? Because quite frankly, they're big enough to not be worth being avoided, they're almost everywhere in the webspace.
About 3) It is not the fact of MS not looking good in 3D But the 3D being badly made Everything clips into everything Tanks Drift Sizes are wrong Some textures are badly compressed There are some amazing conversion from 2D to 3D out there, like FighterZ and Mega Man 11 Tencent in the other hand just made the models as close as the original material as possible without understanding it
It's not the 3d models that I have a gripe about this, but rather the lack of expressive animation the 2d games are pretty known about... Then again, this game is made by Tencent and its subsidiary... EDIT: I also didn't like the electronic rendition of the musics...
The boss designs stay true to their original sprite counterparts. Though the unique bosses that are exclusive to the game like the beetle boss is quite unique,taking heavy inspirations from famous species of beetles like the rhinoceros beetle in combination with the exotic scarab beetle,the interesting dung beetle and the scary bombardier beetle. All correlate in its methods of attack and some of its's physical features,with its design being more Egyptian based.
I mean I can fullscreen my emulated copy of metal slug. It just looks like pixelated shit. They wanna spend a fuckton of money redrawing sprites, first they have to find people who do pixel art for a living, who will agree to be paid below minimum with(because lol dead artstyle) or people who will "redraw" the pixels, their own way(see ros4 "artstyle"). but again, below minimum wage(because lol mercenary company) Tencent is nothing but a bunch of miserly whores.And SNK don't have the manpower or the clout to take a big hit and brush it off(inb4 kof14 looking like ps2,. They made a fuccton of money off of SouthAm and China. And surprisingly enough Middle East. SamSho is the one that underperformed, but survived because epic and stadia deals) so yeah cheap gacha it is.
For those saying this game is way too easy compared to the originals (and they're not wrong), keep in mind that Arcade games were meant to be hard to make you spend more money on extra lives. The same is true for pretty much every single Arcade game that got ported to PC, Playstation, or whatever. Mobile games, on the other hand, are the opposite of Arcade games. They're meant to be simple and easy (and addicting) so people spend more time playing them and eventually have to pay for the microtransactions to keep playing for longer.

For now I don't think they've revealed how monetization will work for this game (that's always the last thing revealed), but it's usually something like "wait X time or skip it by paying X «Premium Currency»"; or "pay X to removed Ads"; or "pay X to get this weapon or upgrade". There *will* be microtransactions. Lets just wait to see how bad it's gonna be. Unfortunately, Tencent being involved isn't a good start.
And I'm SO thankful they kept the originals because, yeah, MS5's ost is on another level of composition, musicalization and it just gives you eargasms.
The final boss is imo the best one: it has a bunch of moves, changes its attack patterns based on health, those moves can make combos, and the health is at the right amount.
Nah it is nothing compared to Rootmars (MS3), the Mothership (MSX), Scyther (MS5) and Venusian Queen (MS6). THOSE are real threats conpared to that pathetic bug-looking alien.

I agree, the moment I saw the Elder Centipede fight, I noticed it's movements and attacks are so damn slow compared to the Original, the play area was also extremely tighter, making it harder

I love when you first defeated the Hairbuster Riberts, you expected an airplane to come in and save the General (forgot his name) from falling like the old-time but no this time it failed and escaped anyway. That's a unique touch to how the developers predicted our expectations.

While yeah..these bosses are practically nerfed in a lot of ways and it's also a mobile game carrying every problem a mobile game has i can't deny that..the remixed soundtrack feels kinda right, wouldn't take it over the original but it's not bad by any means and the graphics are actually pretty nice to look at, they feel like "what if we turned these 2d sprites to 3d?" and not give them big alterations or anything of the sort. If this was a proper game and not a mobile game trap, i'd absolutely play it.

The graphics are really amazing. I missed some stuff like the enemies dying incinerated. The free aiming is very good, it helps a lot but for me (as a classic arcade player) I feel this new game is easier than the originals, with infinite ammo it's much less complicated to finish the game.

Some of the new bosses have pretty neat design and gimmic that suit the MS universe, others look like they come from some random fantasy game.

It could honestly be worse. I say for a game distributed by tencent with all the gacha shit theyre producing they didn’t butchered the feel of the bosses, and the 3D models aren’t half bad for mobile. Sure its not the same metal slug, but at that point just play the original.

It looks awesome and well developed... It has the vital elements of the original MS and a kind of refreshing new gameplay, wich looks more confortable for mobile devices and new players... It looks very fun as it is... Altought, i think, considering some points, like not giving the player that much life could give the experience more adrenaline and stress... But still, i think there is some logic behind that...
I hope they release a version for America and South América...

@@royasturias1784 would have to be alters because maybe make Lugus and leiu robots I mean lugus looks one shiny coat away from being a robot and lieu already looks like a dome so make it metal and change the heads to laser cannons while spider bot and the castle remain unchanged(maybe bring the customizable slug more games)

While yeah..these bosses are practically nerfed in a lot of ways and it's also a mobile game carrying every problem a mobile game has
i can't deny that..the remixed soundtrack feels kinda right, wouldn't take it over the original but it's not bad by any means
and the graphics are actually pretty nice to look at, they feel like "what if we turned these 2d sprites to 3d?" and not give them big alterations or anything of the sort.
If this was a proper game and not a mobile game trap, i'd absolutely play it.

The graphics are really amazing. I missed some stuff like the enemies dying incinerated. The free aiming is very good, it helps a lot but for me (as a classic arcade player) I feel this new game is easier than the originals, with infinite ammo it's much less complicated to finish the game.
Is it available only in the Chinese store or in another shop which is not Play Store?
