Let a professional scavenger tell you whats up:
Broken sledgehammer is a fine piece of hardwood to make other hammer handles from, the head can have a new handle put on, the not broken rake head can go on the handle from the broken rake, and the broken caulking gun can be used to confuse and infuriate your neighbor who asks to borrow a caulking gun!
Exactly, lots of stuff there could be combined or fixed
Like, I'm sure he'll just use the handles for a campfire lol
would love to see a video of him upcycling the handle to make some sort of wooden mallet
I have a similar hammer head - great doorstop for the garage.
😂😂😂
At the return counter, when an item is scanned it asks if the merchandise is re-sellable. If no is selected it prints out a faulty return slip. A lot of the times, it's someone not wanting to deal with an open package.most of the time the "faulty items" are fine.
Ohhhhhh this is great to know
@@John_Malecki As a Lowes employee I can vouch for that. Also it's how I've gotten some good deals on power tools is when one is returned as "faulty". Like had one guy return a generator because he doesn't understand how they work and though he could run an entire workshop off of one small generator. So clearly the generator was faulty....
@@stephenmaxson357 a couple years ago, i happened to work on the day they were gonna throw out a 250 piece kobalt mechanics' tool set. i took that bitch home for $10... definitely worth it. and then last summer i took home 4 or 5 dewalt batteries and a charger for about $100
@@stephenmaxson357how did you buy from the "faulty" returns? Can a customer go to a clearance aisle for that kind of thing?
@@rbae one time I was walking up to the clearance cart right as an employee was about to take it away to be trashed so this poor kid was like “just take it I don’t care” and I went home with two boxes of porcelain tile for free 😂
Dude! I’m a mechanic, and have never done any woodworking. Your channel inspired me to do a project. I bought a high fi speaker kit, and built my own enclosures. I still have to put veneer on them because they are made of mdf. They are pretty good for a first timer I think!
Good job. I always like learning a new skill. Actually putting it to use is even better.
Plumbing supplies are quite valuable and a lot of those “worthless crap” fittings that you tossed were worth a lot of quick money to a plumber, while the sink isn’t quick to sell for good money, only good for quick low money or putting in your own property
When Kobalt 40v batteries are ran until they die sometimes you need a trickle charger to start the charge before you put it in its factory charger! Hope this helps brother!
First thing I thought, which means I am spending TOO MUCH TIME on these kinds of videos. 😆😆😆😆
Don't know if anyone else suggested it or even if they sell returns by the pallet but I'd like to see a Tractor Supply episode 👍🏼
Faulty on the return slip doesn't actually mean it's faulty. Something needs to be entered in the system for Lowe's to accept it and they take almost anything back that people try and return. A lot of people "rent" things from Lowe's for whatever weekend warrior job they have
I was going to say this! Test it out before throwing it out
i work at lowe's and i occasionally see things get returned with home depot inventory labels on them lol. our cashiers do not care at all
I think they had a large pile of merchandise on the floor, and while putting the items in boxes, they had a box set aside where they tossed the obvious junk and trash, but afterwards, they decided to put the trash box up on the auction site knowing that some jackass will probably buy it. That’s where you came into the picture John. On the bright, it was good entertainment for us, and that my friend is priceless.
Haha after working at Lowe’s for a decade until recently it is cracking me up some seeing all those return stickers put on there. So often things would get past costumer service and my friends in receiving and I would get a good laugh. “They know this should have had a battery right?” or a lot of times they’d buy a new thing and bring their old one an hour later in the new box saying “it doesn’t work.” The cashiers wouldn’t check that the numbers matched on the box to the drill.
when i worked at home depot we had someone buy a brand new $900 gas generator and then they returned it, kicker was, they put their old crapped out one in the box. Our ASM was the one that returned it and never even bothered to look in the box lol. if we wouldve done that we would have gotten reamed
@@mark16443 I had an asm that would take anything on return. Even shit the company had never carried, like competitors proprietary brands. 😂
@@mybrotherjames8579 I worked for lowes as well who gives a crap who returns what. Employees always took this shit to personal. Like its their money if your management ok because bonuses are determined by the numbers but regular employees. I never understood. I always had to tell people to calm down like it's coming out of their personal bank acct.
@@mark16443 used to sell to Lowe's and Depot, saw all kinds of stuff when I did returns.
I buy expensive shit that I need for like one use and return it when I'm done and claim it just didn't do what I needed it to do. I know whoever buys return pallets from my local homedepot scores pretty good because I'm not the only one in the area doing it to avoid rental fees lmfao.
This series has been great, the range of emotions is everything.
Not sure if they do pallets, but the unclaimed baggage warehouse could be interesting.
unclaimed baggage would be really cool, but probably would need some serious editing, never know what kind of janky stuff your going to find
Unclaimed Baggage isn't too far from me, and I'll be super honest. The whole store gives off a "low rent thrift store" vibe. Janky to the max.
You can actually return items like that. However, it will be store credit and you have to show your drivers license. Which, you can only do so many times because they are trying to prevent return fraud.
As someone who works for Lowe's we cater to both the pro and the diy guys
So I work ar a Lowe's and the returns will often have a tag that says why it was returned and many of them are broken as you saw, or claimed to be broken but not. Which I think the kobalt impact drill combo likely was. Most faulty strips say "Doesn't work" and the folks in charge of returns don't or aren't allowed to press for what's actually wrong. The drapes people meausre once and cut twice.
i work at the return desk at Lowe's and yah we usually ask if anythings wrong but beyond that we don't investigate it.. it gets a rtm slip and put in the cart..
If it can't be put back on the shelf it gets rtm including just damaged packaging. When we have a line we cant sit there and figure out exactly why something is returned when it's going to be sent back to receiving anyway.
You have to remember Lowes putting a faulty sticker on it means NOTHING it probably works exactly how it should. They go off of what the customer told them and most times people just say it didn't work when returning items.
Yeah that's what we do most of the time
As someone that work at lowes. Everything you got from this pallet has a faulty merch tag, which means somewhere along the line the customer or store decides they were bad.
You need to walk around Lowes/Depot and look up. They'll bury the last of something on the very top shelf. The computer algorithm with continue to discount the item. Best score I got was a Kobalt rolling tool chest. $700 retail for $50. I saw it sitting on the top shelf. Ran the item number. Score!
Another trick is use their website. I found 5/4 x 10 cedar for $5 each at one Lowe's 30 minutes away. I couldn't get there fast enough. The ones that they had on the shelf were $25 each, but a different item number. I walked around looking up for them and finally found them in the flooring department on the back wall. I bought the whole pallet. $500 vs $2500.
That's shopping!
Find a company that wholesales entire trailers. You can get $4000 units full of lawn and garden or tools or household. Even when you are done, you still have the traler.
A leaf blower is awesome for making your charcoal light very quickly once it's started. But a heat gun will light the coal and get it ready to cook without any fuel or lighter.
I found a 10 inch crescent wrench made in Japan, in the middle of the road, when I was driving my Honda Accord. Free wrench!!
Things like this is why I went back to being an electrician. Metabo is my favorite tool maker. I was helping a friend throwing drywall and when it came to the ceiling I have my 12v hitachi. It had more torque, lasted twice as long as dimwhat. The best thing was it was also half the weight. So anything with Metabo on it buy it. I think the only tools that have parity is Milwaukee. The only tools that my father n law used.
The Lowe's I work for is rated in the top 5 Lowe's in Sales in the nation and we do ALOT of Pro Sales, they have been pushing it towards that direction a lot in recent years.
4:22 love seeing Gino in an American's video
That Kohler sink was beautiful!!!
I have that Kobalt leaf blower. Works awesome. Cordless makes it so much easier.
I've got that pressure washer, and yes, it comes with a blue hose! I quite like the washer. It's done everything I've asked of it so far.
I'm sure someone likes this kind of video! I don't care for it too much. I like seeing build projects! I like learning things and I do like watching you play around!
Lol had everything including the kitchen sink 😂I could get into that type of scrounging around 😂but I just run 🏃♀️ with restoring old stuff for my pocket money 😂f
I worked at Lowe’s and their return policy was so dumb. I was in the flooring department got called up to returns to come grab my cart. It was completely filled with used ceramic tile…. From Home Depot.
We just had somebody return 10+ different types & colors of flooring, all mismatched half unpacked un-sellable crap. They probably walked out with $1000+ , just for cleaning their truck out. And some of it came from Home Depot.
How is that even possible; could you just walk in with a random object and get cash for it? Did they not check a receipt or verify the purchase at all?
Kobalt a big let-down? Oh yeah, I learned the same thing awhile ago. In-house Lowes brand, not worth it. (Except for the tape measure. Literally the only quality Kobalt product I've ever used.)
I work at Lowes. It looks like you purchased a pallet of RTM products not regular returns. Regular returns get put back on the shelf as long as the item is sellable. RTM means Return to Manufacturer. RTM products typically have something wrong with them to the point that we will not resell it or try to fix it. It also seems like some products that should have been trashed were thrown in. Sorry about the luck on this one.
I used to work at Lowe’s Return all you can they will give Store credit
Might as well keep backing down the ladder. Looks like a Walmart or Sam's Club pallet is next up. 😂 Might include something you can throw on the grill.
Speaking of which, it's been a minute since we had a grilling session John. 😉
Walmart vs Sam’s club. 300$ or less 🎉
Menards lol
that is a 7 to 800.00 sink. I work for Lowes That is a Special order return/cancel. That's my dept, trust me, look it up, its at least $600.00
at lowe’s, those boxes aren’t like specifically made. they just have a pallet with a big box in their warehouses that they throw returns in, in whatever order they got it. which is why the sink was on top of a bunch of stuff.
I watch these videos like im actually considering buying a pallet of tools myself lol. it's very entertaining to watch. Keep them coming!
You know where I can buy this return pallets I want to buy one too 😃
I worked at lowes back around 2011-2015, and the return policy was a joke. I saw a returned home depot bucket once.
I watched a customer return a bag of mulch or soil, from a brand we didnt sell, that had a price tag from a local nursery on it.
We joked that they would probably take a TV in as a return.
Ive seen photos where the return clerk didnt check and accepted a big dewalt power tool combo box that just had a few bricks in it to give it some weight
When I worked at Lowes people would buy mowers in the spring but the extended warranty then they would return it at the end of the season it would "break" in the fall. They had to hire representatives of the lawnmower companies to come out and inspect them all. Nothing they could do about it
If the item has a way to determine mfg date or sales date most likely it can be taken to or sent to warranty repair - if they still do that. Got a 3/4" Milwaukee hammer drill with all accessories for $10 from Home Deport that was defective - took to their repair facility - lose on / off switch wire.
The brand new metal rake head could've literally been screwed onto the handle w/ the broken head... And also you'd be absolutely surprised how quickly those brass fittings can add up depending on how many you got! (Like $15-$30 a piece!)
To him it’s just trash - which is what I think of these pallet-buys videos by him. 👎🏻
If you want to get rid of the power washer I would really like to have it, I'm starting a detailing business and I don't have a lot of money, so I definitely could use it!
Amazon returns pallet, I think they can be bought in "themes", so you can specify a "tools" pallet.
For the record don't necessarily trust the faulty stickers they are often on there because it's a simpler return process(former Lowes supervisor)
We recently used a Utilitech heater tent camping in the mountains. It will actually shut off if it tips past a certain point. Oh yeah, and being responsible adults, we didn't place it near the side of the tent. So I can't say if it will burn your office down or not. LoL Actually been using it for over a year now.
Cordless leaf blower is also great at getting grass off your driveway. And I would guess the sink was returned because someone screwed up measuring
No you can’t return them cause they go by the serial number and it shows in the system as a return and write it off. So when they put the serial number in to return it, it will show up as returned. You could get in trouble. I know of someone who tried to do that.
If you find a pair of dewalt safety glasses , they are the worst product Lowe’s ever sold.. rinsed them and used microfiber and they were ruined
Did you try to see if the kobalt battery would fit the drill? Send a friend to return the items. You could reweld the rake or put the good head on it and the hammer head will go on another handle. You didn't even test the stapler. It could work. I mean they could have just not used the right staples or something.
6:14, seeing that little heater made me chuckle a bit. I'm a cashier at Lowes and during this time of year, when we get assigned to the outside garden register, they have one of those heaters under the register to try and keep you warm. It works... okay. Not as good as what they had last year. They had the heater and quite literally built a wooden booth around each outside register with a sliding glass window for when customers came up so you could scan. Customer leaves, just close it again to keep the cold out. This year, they built the booth again... kind of. They built half of it. The other half is no longer the door, it's a sliding curtain but the curtain is plastic? It works okay... it doesn't reach the bottom though so your feet still get cold and there's not enough room to try and lift them up.
Ok, I was definitely NOT expecting a sample of Gennaro Gattuso's legendary Greek press conference from when he was coaching OFI of Crete. @4:22
Bless the editor for this! 🤣
To me, the biggest difference between Lowe's and Home Depot is that the Lowe's near me has a much larger and more extensive variety of metric bolts and nuts available, and they have employees who can actually help you. Home Depot has so few employees and most of them can only point you to the right aisle if you know what you want. Can't really help if you know what you need but don't know the name for it even.
That's how it is here where I live too. About a year ago I went to home depot to buy some 5/8 inch thick drywall sheets and there weren't any labels or anything indicating what the sizes of any of the sheets were so I asked an employee who was in that isle. My friend, who drove me, and the employee both pointed me to the ones they thought was the size I was looking for. I got all the way home which is a 30 minute drive from home depot just to find out that it was not the size I needed but what really made it worse is that I actually took a tape measure with me to the store and had it with me in my bag but didn't pull it out and use the darn thing when I was at the store. It's a good thing drywall is really cheap priced. So I just kept them. A month later I went to Lowe's for the drywall I needed and I took my tape measure and made absolutely certain I was buying the correct size before I got to the checkout line.
It is interesting how localized this is. Around here Home Depot is a step up from Lowes.
That's why Home Depot's slogan is "You can do it, we can help". They can help by pointing you to the right aisle, lol!
You are right about Home Depot, but I guess if you go to Lowes you like working for Lowes for free every time you have to check yourself out! Did you get an employee discount? did they cut the cost of the items to reflect that you are doing there work?
@@johnhegarty1761 Here in Texas/hell Home depot only has self check out lanes. Employed lanes are only for lumbar/ contractors buying a ton of stuff. Lowes still has both options and they don't make it seem like only contractors can use the registers near the wood section.
What's left? Menards, and I think some return pallet places divide the more tool stuff for Walmart.
Have that Metabo Nailer. Thing have nailed probably about 60x 3000 box's of brights and still going with minimal maintenance (just some oil).
Even if it says faulty still try it as long as it isnt obviously dangerous because alot of people say that just because they think itll make it easier to return
John, not trying to be forward, but this 63 year old follower would love that Metabo framing nailer. Love you guys
Nothing like buying a big pallet of stuff you didn't want and don't need. How about using the rake parts to make one rake? Or simply welding the broken one?
That heater you said burn your office down is a good one if it turns off whenturned over
I bought a Simpson pressure washer that had been returned from Lowe’s. The sticker said fixed and useable. I get home connect it and zero pressure from the hose. It cranked great btw. Took it back and Lowe’s said call company for warranty work. I did, it was fixed and works great now.
There was somebody here years ago who bought a tent at an outlet store as an open box. Then it got returned to the store for a full refund. This happened several times till they were caught. I forget now what policy they changed, but it didn’t work anymore.
Really starting to think that your Home Depot pallet was just pure luck. That or else their return policy is done by a tribunal of old people trying to discern if you're trying to scam the store.
But I did work at Lowes for like 6 months and their return policy was wildly easy to pass. There was someone that returned an 8 foot marble trim piece that was only 4 feet long and was sent back for us to restock. The length of the item was in the description and they still got a full refund
I might have to try another HD
@@John_Malecki may as well, to find out if it was just a fluke or if their stuff is actually really worth it
Yes another Home Depot pallet would be interesting.
I watched two guys return a lawnmower that looked like it was well used for the season. They got their refund.
John - you should get some bulk returns from Northern Tool and Equipment next and do a video! I work for NTE and am genuinely curious how their returns compare to other companies!
You can reset the batteries by putting a current regulated voltage about 75 to 80% of the rated pack volts on the output terminals then charging as normal.
As always, thank you for my Sunday morning entertainment!
Hope they kept the tool handle from that rake. Really nice wood in those.
I bought pallets for the price of one or 2 tools on the pallet and then sold the rest and it supplied most of the tools in my garage without being out $$
9:18 did he say "pacemaker junk" or am I going crazy lol.
Ice maker, I think
Not even joking. I'm low-key considering buying one of these to get myself started on building an array of tools/supplies.
It might end up way better to just buy used piece meal, but that's less fun and also potentially more costly. Though I'd never buy used for most serious equipment where it really counted
John you crack me up, your a bloody legend 😃
The rake handle is still good. I break those often. And the battery/charger is under warranty.
Started watching your videos last month because you make it fun to watch and you’re a PITTSBURGH STEELER fan.😊😊
can easily fix the rake with the brand new head and the sledge is an easy fix. between the 2 you have about $50
You should take a crate and repurpose it in a build. Use some of the tools to build it and other parts in a build. Kind of like the show Assembly Required.
That tip off the framer gun should be adjustable for a flush nail.
I work in Receiving at Lowe's. You bought our Sort 2 pallet of absolute crap. My store sends out 2 of those and 1 Sort 1 pallet each week. 90% of the stuff in there is genuinely brokenor defective. It's probably why it was so cheap.
Metabo is Hitachi rebranded in nailers. Hitatichi before being taken over made outstanding pneumatic tools.
How about Menards from the Midwest. We have them in Minnesota they are the 3rd largest DIY store in the USA.
I work at the returns desk at Lowe's and I see all of this shit daily, some items are fine and customer error and sometimes packaging is destroyed so we damage faulty it out. It's not uncommon for peole to use the power tools and return them within the 90 day return policy but the tools work fine.
Other things missing pieces or broken get faulty out also but i disnt know the lady in receiving throws ALL of the shit into a big box and sends it out.
We get tons of Kobalt yard tools because theyre lifetime warranty no receipt required so there are some real old beat up shit people bring back.. go figure im at home watching a video about lowes rtm pallet...
Next you should do returns from your longtime sponsor woodcraft....or maybe their competator rockler.
I guess it's like a storage unit auction...but how can they knowingly re-sell faulty (obviously BROKEN!) items?
Try jumping the battery, sometimes it is to low for the charger to recognize it
Lowes has a no question return policy so you could never by a pallet of returns that’s worth it. You can literally buy a tree, take it home, find a stick in your yard and return the stick with your tree receipt and they’ll do it 😂. That place cracks me up
😂😂 best comment 🥇 you win.
Wow really no question return policy?
@@PandorasFolly Yup, I worked there for around 4 yrs and a stick was only one of many things I saw get returned that shouldn’t have been accepted
@@Meisterjagre okay that one is bullshit.
@@JS-rv3etyes and no.. you have 1 year to return perennial plants but you have to bring the plant with roots and tag with receipt.. sometimes its just a root ball and dirt so i can somewhat see this being true especially because a lot of the youngsters that work with me at returns are completely clueless and as long as you have the receipt will accept it.. the plants get trashed anyways, i wish the policy for plants was dropped to 30 days, a year is fucking stupid
Can put the rake head on the rake handle?
Open charger up look for a broke wire, or buy charger and battery on eBay
Try a skid of Menards? or Ace? - I don't know either of these stores... I'm in Canada and we don't have them here...
Oh oh! How about Woodcraft?
Maybe try another pallet from each place? just to see if the first time around was a fluke?
We got to find em !
Rake was still perfect easily fixable just part of reselling/ getting it for cheap lol
I need that sink for my RV I live in...mine is cracked and I've been trying to save for that sink!
How do you get your money back from these returned items? Do you sell them at a swap meet or yard sale? I’m just trying to figure out the business model here.
A lot of small things that you considered garbage could be selled at...idk...5 or 10 dollars, that could add to a better profit that only focusing on the big things
for the charger could be a lose wire. Cheap tools dont always get tested at the factory.
I really like watching this kind of video! It's kind of the thing I've always wanted to do...but my wife would kill me if I spent that kind of money on things that went straight into the trash. So, thank you for this!!
Do they have any available from Menards or Northern Tools?
1 annoying thing about those kobalt chargers is if the battery drops below a certain voltage, the charger won't detect its connected. I made a wire harness for mine and would hook to a 12v car battery jumper just to get the voltage high enough to charge it.
Yah that's all batteries not just Kobalt... DeWalt Milwaukee makita etc all have the same feature for the voltage dropping too low
I work at lowes and I’m not surprised by this stuff at all because how many things get returned
The rake and the hammer you should make handles for them and post it!
How do you like the dewalt cordless compressor I’m thinking about buying one is it worth it?
I actually bought that exact sink for my old place. I loved the black ceramic composite look.
Do black sinks show every drop , dirt, or scratch like a black car?
@@elultimo102 the water spots might have built up a little sooner than a white sink, but honestly, I didn’t feel the need to clean it any more than my previous one, and I thought it was better than the stainless steel one my parents had. Actually I felt like cleaning was easier, because you can’t/don’t need to use harsh or super abrasive cleaning stuff like commet or steel wool, so less elbow grease was needed to make it look new again.
I use to work at Lowes up here in Canada and in the stores we didn’t use the term “return policy”, we called it “rental policy” cause anything could be returned and I mean anything. One of the worst ones I remember was a used toilet that had “brown stains” in the bowl, their excuse was that it was, “uncomfortable to sit on” and the store returned it.
Had a manager at a sporting goods store I worked at buy a pair of shoes, wear them at work for a couple weeks, and then return them until she found “the right pair” 😂
yeah mf lowes rental service. we had a ton of people do that with like seasonal stuff. like lawn mowers and snow blowers.
I was throwing one of those away, (old toilet in a new box) and ended up with brown sh•t water running down my leg.
I love these videos John! Keep making these!
Wow that's crazy lots of tools. Can't wait to see more videos soon guys. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Fab On. Weld On. Keep making stay squirrely. God Bless.
Y'know those welders you got in the Harbor Freight pallet? Use one of them to fix that sad rake.
How do you get a return pallet?
Try fixing and rewiring stuff that is not working and faulty merchandise might be used or hooked up correctly.i guarante. e I could fix alot of that stuff there's several I'd love to have and try to fix
