As far as I know, it's all referred to as "the Cascades" in that section that splits the east and the west of Washington and Oregon. The reason you don't see the toilets from the trail is that people generally don't like taking a crap in view of hikers on the trail, haha. They are discreetly tucked away...often with great views while you're taking care of business. We don't really have those in Oregon, but they are pretty common in the popular areas of Washington to take better care of waste in very popular areas.

Oh...no one would/should camp on that beach as it's not LNT that close to the water. It think the sites at Colchuck are actually designated with posts so there is no dispersed camping allowed. So that people can enjoy the views without random campers/tents in the view shed.

We have been in the PNW 5 times, and are going back of course. I have heard of this area, but never seen it. It looks beautiful. North Cascades and this are on the list now. Thank you.

What day was this? I was up there on Aug 27th. It was so cold when we did it. I'm lucky to live within 1.5 hrs of the trail, though, so I can return on a warmer day. I broke my wrist slipping on a rock right before climbing the pass but I still finished (and had a great time), thankfully the pain wasn't too bad!
