I get it now. Don’t let the hair get tangled. Always set the bonds. Minimal product that doesn’t suffocate the strands. Routine trims (more frequently if you’ve previously team natural).

A few years back, my hair went down the length of my back, and then I started straightening it; that is when I experienced breakage. About a year ago I went back to styling it in its natural state, which has grown exponentially.

That’s just means you messed your hair up. Someone didn’t know what they were doing. Over 89% of the population use flat irons with no damage. Damage is user error thanks for sharing your damaging experience.

Sis, we are on the same page. I wore my hair in twists for years and didn't catch it that it was killing my ends. I mean single strand knots and breakage. Because my hair is curly, I didn't see the breakage until I actually silked pressed my own hair one day and saw sections of hair that were missing. I tricked myself into thinking I was doing the right thing because I wasn't adding heat and it seemed to be growing super fadt. It was shocking. Then I noticed when I kept straightened it, the single strand knots went away, I gave it a good cut, and grew my hair again. Now, it is thicker and past bra strap. Heat stretching my hair has been critical in allowing my hair not to be in these styles that caused more damage than good.

Mind you I went to cosmetology school and still drank the koolaid lol. while im not going to back to relaxers anytime soon I got the 7 day challenge a year ago and my hair is back to normal. With natural hair I have discovered one must develop a regimen for them. It’s so true about the twist outs. My hair was so tangled even after washing. I had so much breakage from ends to the top. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Until 1 day after washing my hair in twist outs it dawned on me that was the problem

You don’t have to wear it straight but it needs to be combed daily if it’s out. Any style that doesn’t allow you to come your hair is one you should only have in special occasions. If you can’t comb it without messing it up it will cause mechanical damage long term.

Hi Cyn! Her hair is beautiful and it looks healthy. Again, I know you know what youre talking about because my sister and I have always been team-no grease & lite oil usage!! Shes still straight while I recently (3 years ago) converted to locs. Oil & grease weigh our hair down (even with locs oil does my hair no favors). Now when I need a shine boost or condtioning treatment Ill do a hot oil treatment but not very often, maybe once a month depending on the season. What I'd like to know more about is your opinion on loc cleanliness in regards to the demodex parasite and how to maintain colony free as much as possible. From nightly head scarves to weekly washing, should we use a clean bonnet/scarf every night? Maybe spritz my scalp with a little clove water a few times a week? Periodically, after washing I like to rinse with cold clove water. It makes my scalp tingle and feel so refreshed afterwards.

I appreciate your content and thanks for sharing your knowledge. Please enlighten me as I’ve had this query in my mind for a long time now: is it at all possible that some (additional) damage could possibly be unintentionally caused by the hair being manipulated via the styling process caused by the hairdresser? There’s the combing out and detangling part, the round brush, comb attachment blow dryer and flat irons. It’s A LOT of manipulation in one sitting and perhaps all that damage wasn’t there until after they were done with being styled. I’ve had several experiences by several hairdressers where a worryingly amount of my hair was on their floor and I could hear my hair snapping and breaking throughout. 4c hair has lots of bends and coils so combs etc especially when handled roughly could be very damaging. That was years ago and I had major set backs then. Since then, I’ve being doing my own hair; no combs, just shampoo, conditioner, occasional protein treatment, leave in conditioner and jojoba oil in two strand twists and my hair is the longest and fullest it’s ever been which is now approaching waist length at the back and collarbone length at the front. Please enlighten me. Thanks 🙏🏾

Hi .. just seen your video which was very interesting to me.. I think your saying that silk presses are better for the hair ? And this is an option I'm about to try I just need to find someone I can trust with my hair in London! I've always found twists tangled the ends of my hair. I lose a lot of hair too which I find complexing since I've never done twist outs they dont suit me,. I like beehives for work. Yes I would be interested in anything else you have on this topic . thks.

🚨‼️ I’m speaking of people who shampoo and add 4-5 twist with products and then put on a head wrap or scarf to air dry.
Im speaking to those that twist to dry and untwist daily styling with creams etc and not combing your hair while it’s out so you do mess up your curls.
Those that use fingers and no combs or brushes.
I’m not speaking of twist in a actual style. Blown out and put in a style in twist is fine.
You don’t have to flat iron but the ways you have been going about haircare isn’t working.
