    I'm 54 and your 80's list is full of fragrances I've never heard of and don't remember seeing and has really peaked my interest.
    My signature scent in the 80's was paco rabanne pour homme and also Kouros but I never actually liked Kouros then I moved onto YSL jazz which is my all time favourite and givenchy xeryus which I don't own a bottle at the moment. You really bring back to life fragrances that probably deserve more praise than they actually got. Love the channel sir can't stop watching

    Your comparison of that old Italian bottle to an old Lancia was PERFECT!! All those 80's era cars had the worst plastic interiors. The Dark Ages for the Automobile. Loving the Decade Series so much. I will be sure to go back and view your catalog of content. Happy I found your channel!

    Great to see a super classy and not so run of the mill 80s list. The original Trussardi Uomo is just excellent one of my all time favs and the only one on this list I've actually sniffed. The others sound awesome though and worth checking out for sure. Thoroughly enjoyed these Chris and such an insightful look at some under the radar(but not under-appreciated) gems 😊

    For me, although I mostly wore 1978's Azzaro Pour Homme and 1955's Chanel Pour Monsieur in the 1980's, Calvin Klein's Obsession for men was the fragrance of the decade. Any time I went out on a date in the evening, that was what I sprayed on and MAN, was it a powerhouse! The next day everything still smelled of Obsession. I'm not sure it's still as strong. Zino by Davidoff was released that year and I'm sorry I wasn't into it back then. I should have bought about 5 bottles of it!
    Another one I liked that announced you were entering the room two stories before you even reached the floor was Giorgio for Men by Giorgio of Beverly Hills. Incredibly powerful as was another favorite, Drakkar Noir. I recently bought a bottle of Drakkar. The sillage and projection are not nearly the same.
    Good video. You''re correct in stating that the men's fragrance business started to really take off in the 1980's. Glad you rolled the sleeves up around the cuff. That reminded me of my evening look as I tried to emulate Rick Springfield singing, "Jessie's Girl" back then!

    You're absolutely right about Lauder For Men. It is an extremely potent floral, oakmoss bomb! I recently acquired a bottle, and I'm still trying to find a balance with this fragrance. It will probably last me several years if I don't get tired of it. Classy but definitely bold and polarizing.
    Thank you for these great videos!

    My Favorite fragrance of the eighties was Versailles Pour Homme - Jean Desprez created in 1980. Not only was it my favorite fragrance of the eighties but my Favorite fragrance of all time. Hi Chris. If at all possible,can you compare the vintage version of Hermes BellAmi to the newer formula? I distinctly remember the cocktail shaker bottle smell from my child hood,just wondered if it's similar to the 80's classic,or does it have no similarities at all as some do these days. Also,can you review the house of Ormonde Jayne if at all possible,i own 3 from this house,would like to hear more as I think there amazing..so far

      Okay, I don't have a Top X 80s fragrance list but some others (besides the one's you mentioned) that would probably make my list are: Chanel Antaeus (Top 5 for sure), Creed Green Irish Tweed (probably #1), Balenciaga Ho Hang Club, Guy Laroche Drakkar Noir, Antonio Puig Quorum. Creed Bois du Portugal, Dior Fahrenheit and Maxim's Pour Homme...and I'm sure that I'm forgetting a bunch.
      Jacques Bogart Witness would be an honrable mentioned but it's an early 90s release.
      All the above area very wearable today with the exception of Bijan Men, which I love, but it's only something I wear while sitting around the house reading a book or watching a movie.
      Have you ever tried Balenciaga Ho Hang Club? If not, you can pickup an unboxed bottle on eBay for under $20 per 50ml. It opens very nice, but the drydown is magical - just an awesome gentleman's fragrance that can easily be worn today. The same goes for Maxim's Pour Homme. Heck, I would love to see you review these two fragrances...highly underrated IMO.

    • @scentland4753
      @scentland4753  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course these are great but one cant include them all and I have this tendency of covering more of the under the radar ones. Fahrenheit is a masterpiece but I cant wear it and therefore it does not make my top list, same with Drakkar, Quorum or GIT.

  • @bosetech9661
    @bosetech9661 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Such a nice presentation! Your certainly a connoisseur of fragrance, and explain their different ambiances well. However, you skipped the groundbreaking pheromone-based cologne 'Andron' by Jovan. It was released in 1981. Perhaps you didn't have it in your collection. I'm 58 and used it often throughout the '80s... with GREAT success. The ladies would swarm around me at nightspots and complimented me on how nice I smelled. Needless to say, I never had a problem with finding a companion for the night! I have compiled a few "original" 1oz. bottles of this extremely rare cologne over the years, as well as some sampler vials. I am close to retirement and looking to sell. Maybe you might know of any collectors who may be interested in my treasures?

    Lauder for men is an absolutely addictive, suffocating, spicy floral! So masculine and deep. Please be careful with this one. Don't over spray and don't jump into a tight space, ie car, right after applying this or you may get a allergic reaction. Good stuff indeed!

      Its true, Versace L'Homme indeed should have been represented here. Its stunning and I use it since 1991. Armani however I never cover at all. I dislike Giorgio Armani because of his negative comments of the late great genius Gianni Versace and therefore I am not willing to deal with any of his juices. I know its stubborn but thats just the way I feel about him.

    0:38 Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

      I love Wind and Wuthering as well as Trick but I totally agree, those two you mention two are my favorite albums also. I seen them live in 1987, 1992, 1998 (when Ray Wilson - who became a good Friend of mine - replaced Phil) and also 2007.

      @@scentland4753 Do you like Huey Lewis and the News? ... Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

    Chris, excellent video content!!....Very interesting 1980's fragrances!!....I wish the modern world would stop this "political correctness movement" so that the EU would discontinue its ban on oakmoss and bring back some 70's and 80's original powerhouses formulas for men's fragrances....makes no sense to me....it's absurd how ridiculous society has turned...Again, great research on these fragrances !

      Edward, I don't know if you have found Lauder yet, but I certainly recommend this. Very spicy floral masculine. Powerful with even one spray initially but calms way down after 10-15 minutes. You can still find it available on Amazon

      or Macy's

      I wonder if something has been done to Lauder for Men, I got mine a few months ago and I have to say the performance is really, well, I'd say lacking in my bottle! I'm a 1-2 sprays under the shirt kind of guy with most perfumes but with Lauder I've felt I could just spray away... Strange, and I do wonder if the spray nozzle has something to do with it. The bottle is identical to the older ones I've seen and I haven't heard of reformulations.
